Ari made a noise of distaste and brought the knife down. It ripped through the fabric as easy as if it were butter.
“What am I meant to do with a roll of silk?” She scoffed, dragging the knife through the material. She spun her blade between her fingers and admired her handiwork, lips pursed in thought.
She glanced up at the sound of footsteps, and raised her eyebrows at the unwelcome guest.
“You want this?” She gestured to the ribbons of silk scattered on the table in front of her. She took a seat, her gaze on the other person expectant.
Carmen was wandering the ship as she usual did, over heardibg bits and pieces of information and storing them away for later use. After a haul like the one they just had , there wasn’t much to heard. Some complaining and other praising the goods they received.
Carmen walked up to Ari and saw what they were doing. Seeing the silk in ribbons made her want to both laugh and cry. “Aye aye , Arielle sometimes jou can have things just to be pretty. ” She sighed picking up the pieces, “But if jou really don’t want it. I’ll take it but know jour part of the reason we can’t have nice things.”
“Darling, we can have as many nice things as we want,” Ari grinned at her, “We need only to take it.”
“What are you going to do with silk? Make a pretty little bodice? Some undergarments?” She couldn’t keep the sarcasm out of her voice. She picked up one of the ribbons and looped it around Carmen’s neck. “I don’t see the point. Now a nice knife or a gun…that I could find some use for.”
“Aye Carñio, jou then are blind to the possibilities” Carmen smiled as she took the silk from around her neck, “esilk I’d very estrong, it doesn’t rip or break when pulled on.” She gave the ribbons a hard tug, “plus they can be used for…oh mierda que la palabra.” Carmen paused, she had forgotten the word she needed, furriowing her brow she looked to Arielle, “What you call puntadas?” Carmen made an action as if she was sewing, “When jour hurt the doctor does it. ”
“Stitches?” Ari felt her eyebrow quirk up. “With silk?” she paused, regarding the woman carefully. “Suppose I’ll take your word for it.”
She sighed and went on, “I suppose you’re well pleased with today’s haul. What did you manage to get your hands on?”
