So I'll keep this brief, I've noticed a lot of people I follow have archived their blogs and I can't figure out which of you are still active. Thick Skin

To be fair, she did not care at first. No, the comment would have just glanced off her mind and dismissed. Though this particular utterance pricked at a nerve of the blonde demon.

 She turned very slowly, and allowed her apathetic gaze to settle on the being. “Excuse me? Could you repeat that so I can hear it?”

Gabriel was looking at her. “Uh huh sure you don’t. I’m awesome.” He grinned. The archangel was watching her for a bit “And I’m always spunky.” He winked and waggled his eyebrow. The archangel was teasing her and playing around. He was unable to help it.

“You tell yourself that, isn’t pride a sin that angels usually avoid? I thought holy deities were supposed to be humble.” She peered at him through narrowed eyes, feeling whatever nostalgia and joy in seeing him live slowly fading. She had forgotten how irksome he was.

Fire and Ice

Jon laughed. “I can think of other ways to warm up,” he teased with a waggle of his eyebrows. Still, he lead her down the small hallway to the back door and opened it.

In the back of the cabin was a series of three massive pools, set one above the other. Water from the ones above flowed gently into the lower pools. A thick white blanket of steam and the lingering hint of sulfur hinted at exactly how hot the pools were. The path to the pools was covered with a simple roof and little else.

Jon started stripping down at the door. “Warmth awaits,” he said.

“Now now Jonathon, fire and ice never mix.” She laughed before proceeding into one of the steaming pools of water. She slipped her feet in first before submerging herself up to her chin in the water. Instantly she was warmed, her flesh tingled from the heat that pulsated into her very core. 

“So what else do I get to suffer through in this frozen tundra? I’ve heard of people actually playing in that frozen wasteland. You people that reside in the northern most hemisphere are quite odd indeed.”

Marlo relaxed further into the spa, stopping when the water level was right below her nose. Her hazel eyes surveyed the man, being not very subtle in her judgement about his lifestyle. What sort of wizard chose to dabble in cold?

      A brow was raised at what she was talking about . In fact, he hadn’t a clue of what she was talking about. “ I unfortunately don’t know what that is. ” Calen admitted before nodding at her offer of tea. “ Yes, I would appreciate that very much. Thank you. ”

“It’s alright, I didn’t either until I got bored one night and looked through the app store. Still, wonderful little invention, sort of like the pen.” She shrugged and moved to the kitchen, opening one of her cupboards, revealing her horde. There were varying boxes decorated with colors and different animals. “Pick your poison, I can list them all if you like.”

“I am not normal,” Kai agrees with a smile, “Let’s just say, my master isn’t someone people like to make acquaintance with.”

He looks at her past his eyelashes. “For a human, you don’t seem all that scared of someone who just ripped a man’s heart out of his chest. I could kill you just as easily you realize?”

“Oh  a human? That’s adorable.” She chuckled and tabbed her chest with her index finger. “If you would like to try to take my heart from my chest I employer you to do so. Though I want you to have fun trying to find it, it’s been an empty hole for quite some time.”

She chucked and shrugged her shoulders, letting her hand fall and gesture at the discarded heart. “So what is your name anyway, since you might try to kill me in a few moments.”

My girlfriend during the seventies gave me this leather jacket before she died and I had a spell placed on it so it basically take whatever you throw it, not once has it torn, stretched or faded. It looks like it the day I took it out the box”

Vergil smiled.

“Don’t think I could brave a PTA meeting” 

“That would have been wise, but I’m not a person that is good with charms, and a lot of people are not inclined to do me many favors. Something about making deals with devils and stuff like that.” She waved that off with a sigh before her eyes fell back at him when he mentioned the cult of soccer moms. Formally known as the PTA.

“Oh I think you’ll do very well, though those women will eat you alive.” She chuckled again and weighted the book that she had been reading in her hand.

“How’d you find out about your daughter?”

“I’ve been working with herbs for a few years, and I have never once attempted to drink tea from nightshade…If you say that peppermint helps to combat it’s bitterness, then I suppose I might have to give it a shot,” Merlin responded, contemplating the idea of actually consuming nightshade. It didn’t sound all that appealing, but if it didn’t taste bad like she said, he supposed it wouldn’t hurt to try it.

“I’m picking it now so that we can dry it and have it for tea in the colder seasons - Gaius and I consume quite a bit of it during the wintertime, so we try and get as much dried during the growing season as we possibly can. Also, it’s used in several of Gaius’ tinctures, for pain and aches,” he explained with a kind smile, as he continued to fill his tatty old satchel with the pungent dark green leaves. “The oils are great for treating teeth aches, headaches, and sore muscles.”

The beginning of his explanation made the demon smile , her fondness for teas had bloomed because of the exotic flavors that came from simply steeping in tea! Marlo folded her dress under her as she knelt down so her knees dug into the grass. The ground was still moist from the morning dew, and her hands reached out and plucked some leaves of mint. She held the delicate leaves in her hand, rotating her wrist to get a better look at the leaves. “The nightshade tea though, you have to boil it for a while and skim off the foam. Otherwise you’ll die a horrible death from poisoning.”

She chuckled at the matter of fact drop of facts about the teas. “So after picking herbs are you going to spend the day making tea or what other plans do you have?” She crossed her arms over her stomach while she knelt, idly shifting her eyes from the man to the area around her. “I believe it might rain today though. Those clouds are looking quite ominous in the distance.”

“Damn, no wonder you’re able to handle the heat, even enjoy it.”  He commented with a playful grin on his face. Irvin turned to look at her after she mentioned moving to a cafe, and he was taken aback by her choice of drink. Hot tea? In this weather? Regardless of his confusion, he was not going to object to her suggestion. “That sounds like a good suggestion, I could kill for a cold drink. My throat feels so dry.”

“A cold drink? Little one this is barely spring weather from where I am from.” She chuckled before standing up, brushing off her rear from the bits of imaginary dust. Her hands rested on her full hips and she twisted her head back and forth in debate where she wanted to get her tea at. “Do you have any suggestions for a place for a drink? I know there is a cafe down West St that is quaint, but I’m not sure about what they have there. Any opinions?”

“And apparently making messes,” she said gesturing down at the limp lump of flesh that spread blood all over the ground. “So what are you? No normal human can rip a man’s heart out of his chest.”

“He was rather annoying, wasn’t he? I don’t particularly like people who prey on the innocent. Not my style.”

“Innocent not so much, though I do appreciate a good evisceration. I feel like that was a little overkill though.”

Irvin raised an eyebrow surprised and turned to look at her. “Okay, I know I should be accustomed to this weather and all but I still feel like I’m going to melt any second now.” He lost himself in thought, trying to think of places that were hotter than where he lived. “Tell me, did you live in Arizona at any point? I’ve heard the heat is worse there.” 

“You could say that. I suppose you could say I’m from the deep south, and the temperature down there is way more hellish then this.” She chuckled, looking at the man through rested eyes. “If it is too warm for you I would not be opposed to moving to a cafe. A nice hot tea would go well with this nice day.” She sat up from her relaxed lean, observing the man for an answer. Though a smile still played over her lips, rather amused with her description of her home land.

         “ Oh. ” Calen let out a soft breath as he looked at the coffee in his hand. He hadn’t planned on actually hearing but he was in need of some coffee. Moving to the sink, he dumped it before sighing. “ I take it you are not the greatest cook of things. ”

“Why cook when you have Postmates?” Marlo enjoyed the phone application that would deliver delicious meals and drinks with a simple swipe of a finger. Marlo looked back on the early years where she would forage for ground roots and cook unseasoned fish on an open fire. How did the demon ever live without braised meat drizzled with a reduced sauce? “One thing I am quite good at is making teas, would you like a cup?”

“Hmmm so you missed me?” Gabriel said amused sitting there almost looking smug “Is that what you are getting at?” The archangel pressed. He took out a candy bar and was eating it. Sure he had been dead, But he hadn’t actaully expected anybody to really miss him. The archangel didn’t feel like anybody cared that he was gone or not.

“You must have hit your head, to think I would miss you.” She scoffed at the thought, her arms crossing over her chest. A thin smile pulled over her lips as she looked at the holy being. In reality, she had missed the presence he bestowed. Even if the demon loathed angels to her core, there were a handful that generally seemed to do good. “Though, it is good to see that you are as spunky as ever.” It was the closest Marlo would ever be to admitted to actually missing him.
