"Is Bucky as bad as Steve?" Tony asked, his tone serious; but it was all too obvious he was being an ass. "Like, for instance, is he as screwed up as ole Spangly?"

"Define ‘screwed up,’" Piper said, her voice carrying a slight tone of regret at her own request. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to know what Tony thought of Steve; he had called him "ole Spangly," after all. "Are you talking about emotionally?"

"Oh, I have - and trust me, I’ll always have more,” he assured her, pointing his finger at her briefly as if to make sure his point came across. He scoffed at her so-called answer, disappointed more than anything. “Really? That’s it? Please. We’ve all been through hell. Going through something hard is relative, at best.”

"Somehow, I'm not a bit surprised," she responded, giving him a faint smile. She shrugged at his comment, making sure any annoyance she felt was safely hidden behind a casual expression. "Alright, then. Relatively speaking, he's been through hell."

A stumbling Bucky made his way into the bedroom at around 3am, a night of drinking and remeniscing with Steve long behind him. "Hey... Pipes," he said, causing a giggle fit to erupt from his throat. Stumbling over, he fell onto the bed. "How're you?"

Piper lowered the book she had been reading and stared at him, a lopsided smile forming on her face. “Good,” she replied, nodding just slightly at the question, eyeing him with suspicion. She leaned forward towards him, her elbows resting on her knees. “You seem to’ve stumbled a bit on your way in. Have you been drinking, by any chance?”

Bucky sniffed a little, listening to her words with actual seriousness, just as her tone of voice welcome him to. “Never,” he agreed begrudgingly, a pout easily passing over his face. “I guess I was just worried he’d think it was on purpose. But he doesn’t think that, I guess. And hey - don’t make fun. I thought’a that name when I was five.”

Bucky grinned when Piper looked so victorious, any hope at being frustrated with her uselessly thrown away at the mere sight of her. His gaze went all over her face, looking at each part of her before he finally spoke. “Fine, then. You’re off the hook this time.” He gave her a lopsided smile in response, breathing deeply. “Yeah, I guess it is sorta funny… Not much, though. Not much.”

Yet another pout fell across his features as the bag was pulled from his childish, curious grasp. His arm fell when she stood, and with a raised brow, he sighed. “Really?” It was a rhetorical question; he knew she wasn’t kidding. Bucky slowly sat up from the couch, sitting on the edge of the cushion and leaning his elbows lightly on his knees. “This good enough?”

"When you were five," Piper repeated, impressed, her arms straightening to rest between her legs. "That was a while ago, yeah? I've never known anyone that long." Her face scrunched up a little, and she leaned forward slightly as she thought. "Except my mum, but she doesn't count."

She squealed a little when he said she was off the hook, glad that he was recovering from the day's previous events. "It is," she said quietly, holding up her first two fingers in a 'small' gesture. "It's a wee bit funny."

"Really." Piper studied his new position on the couch - something she saw as a weak attempt to find out what she was hiding. She finally nodded her approval, though it was more out of her own excitement than his passing her test. As promised, she opened the small bag, pulling out The Hobbit blu-ray and holding it up for Bucky to see. "You haven't seen this one yet. Did you read the book? It came out in 1937, I think."

"Get in loser, we're going shopping." (do you know how long I've wanted to use this)

"Hell yes! I’m dying to go shopping. And get outta the apartment, for that matter. Oh, god, wait — you’re not talking about grocery shopping, are you?”

"Yeah, because that’s the only reason not to wanna go grocery shopping,” Amy said, rolling her eyes and scoffing. “Good. That sounds much better. But I do need to go grocery shopping, just… not today.”

"Groceries are important," Piper said ominously, her voice low. "You wouldn't be so chipper without anything to eat, would ya?" She shrugged, her bottom lip sticking out slightly with the motion. "Getting the messages will be what we do that's of importance today. Everything else'll be for our entertainment, yeah?"

"Oh, sure," Bucky said dreadfully, laying the crook of his elbow over his eyes. "You only think that ‘cause you didn’t see his face. He’s probably not gonna be able to stop thinking about it. I sure can’t.” He let his arm fall back onto his stomach so that he could eye Piper with disbelief. She was amused. She was holding back laughter at a time like this.

He lifted his head and placed it back down onto the couch pillow, facing her more now. “You’re smiling,” he said, scowling slightly, though part of him was smiling. “I can’t believe this. My own girl’s turned on me, now.”

He sniffed dryly, glancing at the bag that she was holding so proudly. Even though he could still see Steve’s face in his mind, he couldn’t help but feel curious as to what she could be so excited about. Maybe it would offer him a welcomed distraction. “S’in the back?” He asked, lifting his arm to grab for it.

"Aw, come now," Piper replied softly, her tone showcasing her attempt at comfort. "He knows you didn't mean anything by it. How many times have you referred to him by a pet name? Never, yeah? Besides 'Stevie,' of course." 

"You've got it wrong," she started, looking at him victoriously. "I'm actually laughing at the thought of his horrified face, not you." She leaned forward, her elbows resting on her knees, her nose wrinkling slightly. "Though, you have to admit, it is funny."

She quickly moved the bag out of his reach, holding it high above her head - which, if he hadn't been lying down, would have been completely futile. "I'll show you," she said, standing and moving behind the coffee table. "But you have to sit up and be cheery first."

"You know - dark, cynical, obnoxious, PTSD, secretive," Tony explained nonchalantly, counting off his fingers as he named Steve’s issues. He figured he’d run out of fingers before he finished, so he cut the list short. "Sure, that too. Does he cry a lot?"

"You sound like you've been sitting on those for a while," Piper commented, eyebrows raised, her gaze searching for something behind Tony's nonchalance. She exhaled slowly, her cheeks blowing out slightly with the motion. "I don't see why you care, really. But, he gets upset like the rest of us, yeah. He went through hell."

Bucky was on Steve’s couch, face-down, metal arm draped over the side, and shins leaning against the arm of the couch. His ears twitched when he heard the door to the apartment unlock, and he turned his head only slightly to listen to the footsteps that followed. The metal that was his arm groaned mechanically as he moved to adjust his position on the couch, his ears pining for more sounds from the doorway. A second later, he recognized the sound of quick, bouncy steps as Piper’s as she walked into the room.

It had been a planned time, and they intended on going for dinner - and probably watch Lord of the Rings again, if Bucky assumed correctly. But as she entered the room, all Bucky could do was groan into the pillow.

"I called Stevie babydoll," he admitted right away, answering her before she asked anything. Surely she’d be confused as to why he was moaning and groaning into the pillow. He flipped onto his back, lifting his arm with another mechanical groan from the metal. "It was an accident! I thought he was you when he started walking in, and… Oh, God, Piper, I can still see his horrified look…"

Piper didn't waste any time in entering the nice, New York City apartment. She always thought it had a homey, charming aura to it; half-decorated with paintings and more books than anyone needed, it was almost like an artsy safe-haven. Or a library. Besides, it was quite large in comparison to her own, tiny apartment. It was much more fit for company.

She wanted to tell Bucky the surprise; that she had something special up her sleeve for date night. She held her bag in front of her as she walked in, almost as if to display it. It contained not only her personal things, but a movie - not The Lord of the Rings, for once, but something different, something exciting - The Hobbit.

When she saw Bucky, however, her demeanor immediately switched from excited to confused. Her immediate reaction to his confession was laughter, and she had to press her lips together to hold it back. She then made her way over to him, sitting on the small coffee table that was situated in front of the couch. "I doubt he thought much on it," she offered, unsure, her voice unusually high as she tried to console him. "He's probably gone and forgot about it, by now."

"We took 'liking older men' to a whole new level, didn't we?"

"Well, it just sounds creepy when you say ti like that, god,” Amy said, her nose scrunching. “It’s not like they’re validly old, anyway.”

"Maybe not, but technically they're still over ninety. I think we can safely say that's old." Piper narrowed her eyes slightly, then pointed to Amy casually. "Maybe we're not so bad off, though. I went to secondary school with a girl who was dating a fifty year old."

"What? No! Why the hell would I take you grocery shopping? You'd make fun of my food tastes the entire time. No, I was hoping we could go somewhere people usually go to have fun. Like a shopping center."

"Aye, ‘course. What’s on your mind?"
