a) The Russell’s viper has phospolyphasic venom, a very rare venom amongst snakes, and unless you live in southeast asia, you will not encounter a snake with this kind of venom. b) only about 14% of all snake species are venomous c) The picture above is of a King Cobra, therefore not in Australia. d) More people are killed by fridges every year than snakes. Are you terrified of fridges? No? Then stop being a little bitch and respect them as the perfectly evolved predatory hunters that they are.

I’ve seen that gif set going around before with various people saying ” this is why i hate snakes” ect.. So thought I’d add my contribution too. 

As said above the majority of snake species are non-venomous and some of the venomous snake species included in that percentage don’t have venom that is a danger to people.

However, venomous or not,  all snakes still deserve our respect. Leave wild snakes alone and they will do the same for you.

Also, Venom is amazing stuff! Recent research into snake venom has revealed venom from the Black Mamba could provide a painkiller as effective as morphine [x], but much safer to use with fewer side effects. Other research has shown components in snake venom could help to cure cancer [x], treat diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular diseases and more! [x] [x] [x] [x] [x].

Who knows? The ability of this venom to clot blood could hold the key to therapeutics for clotting factor deficiency diseases like hemophilia ?? 

So lets not hate on snakes for these amazing abilities…
