No psychotherapy , or at best waiting times twice as long ? People who are ill often don't have that kind of time. Here’s the background : reimbursement for outpatient psychotherapy was already cut by 4.5 % in 2026 . That might not sound like much , but it is already pushing many practices into financial distress , given that their fees are already at the low end of the scale for medical specialists . To make matters worse , the "healthcare reform" or rather , the assault on ur health now threatens to further marginalize psychotherapy .

Further cutbacks are in store under the planned Statutory Health Insurance Contribution Rate Stabilization Act (a name that rings as hollow as the policy itself) . According to currently known plans , we face the threat of budget caps and the loss of statutory protections ensuring fair remuneration for psychotherapy services . That may sound like bureaucratic jargon, but it boils down to two things worth remembering : most therapists will only be able to offer half as many patient slots since otherwise they’d effectively be working for free & there will be no new practices opening , because our fees can now be slashed whenever it suits the whims of the millionaires with private insurance up at the top .

When outpatient care is weakened , longer waiting lists inevitably follow. And more severe cases of illness arise though , of course , those who are no longer alive don't need sickness benefits . Psychotherapy accounts for only a tiny fraction of statutory health insurance spending ; the societal costs of untreated mental illness , by contrast, are many times higher . Facts don't matter only that the bigwigs at the top keep their hands clean .
