I'm a big fan of Sonadow, being the ship I mainly follow and helps me stay sane these days, but I really think about Sonshadamy as a relationship I would like to write and draw about. Maybe one day, but for now I will just share the thoughts I had. The post was huge, so I cut it in half. The first one is the SFW part, but the characters are adults.
For my Sonshadamy evolution from nothing to the most cute poly relationship in fiction, I 100% sure Shadow and Sonic would hook-up first. Like they fight each other for fun and one day they just find themselves "doing the deed". It's casual and they do it from time to time until they realize there are feelings there; very confusing.
Of course, Amy is not stupid, and she discovers them. It feels very awkward because any of the boys can express their feelings properly and she has her own feeling to deal with:
Sonic always liked Amy in his own way, even more when she started to mature enough to stop chasing him as a mad fangirl and showing more who she really was: caring, protective, but strong willed and fierce. But he did not want to settle down, loving his freedom, and never confessed. He liked Shadow too, as a rival and occasional partner against enemies, and the hook-ups made him know Shadow in ways he couldn’t while fighting him; the attraction was always there.
Shadow always had problems with emotions: autism + PTSD is not a good combination. Looking for Sonic was only a way to have some fun time with one of the few people at his same level, feeling Sonic would be able to resist anything he threw at him; going shopping or to concerts with Amy and seeing her smile and feeling warm inside was normal among friends. He thought wanting to spend more time with them was friend's stuff.
Amy has loved Sonic since they met. What started as a child's crush evolved into true love as Amy discovered all of Sonic: always helping, fighting for others who couldn't, never asking anything in return; she wanted to be like him, and he encouraged her to be and better herself. But then she started to go out with Shadow, doing the things Sonic never wanted to do with her, she started to see Shadows with a new perspective and she realized she had feelings for him, which confused her because she still loved Sonic the same. When she realized it, she stopped chasing Sonic and said nothing to Shadow, hoping she could clear her feelings, but she couldn't.
So, after some awkward talking and Shadow discovering what his feelings were romantic love, they decided to try a poliamorous relationship because they discovered they existed. Funny enough, it was Shadow who told them because he started reading about different types of relationships as soon as he started hooking up with Sonic as he was never in a relationship before.
Of course, even if they are in a relationship, Amy understands the guys are not going to stay at home 24/7, but it's fine: they come and go, sometimes alone, sometimes both; her house it's always open for them, she just have to get accustomed to neither of them entering from the front door, though.
When the three of them are together, they are the cutest thing ever. Even if Shadow and Sonic show their affection to the other in a more aggressive way, both of them treat Amy with the most care; it’s not that they think she is weak or that she is going to break, but her body can’t be compare to the ones from the two hedgehogs that have killed otherworldly beings.
And she loves it, the little gestures that show how they love each other: how Sonic is more open and hugs and kiss them and spend the time listening about their lives between travels, happy because he spends time with them; how Shadow is more subtle, leaning more to the “pebble gifting” than the actual touching, but he let Sonic and Amy touch and kiss him; and Amy reciprocated them: she hugs them, steals kisses and many other things.
Now they go places together, too. Like Sonic would bring them to see some beautiful place he found, or more couple places like the beach or amusement park (they grew up so they can ride some rides now). Sonic still doesn’t like shopping (because it's a slow activity), but he goes if they go when he is around to spend time with them. And, when they do this, Sonic and Shadow look like Amy’s bodyguards, always surrounding her, but, the thing is, when there are problems, she is the one acting, and the boys love seeing Amy intimidate any kind of people, any size, any species. Sonic even would laugh hard when the poor soul who tried to go against Amy had to deal with her physical strength; Shadow would approve silently with a smirk.
I really, really would love to draw some of these ideas.
