you better clean this mess! you better learn inglés! you better pull your weight… you better not be late! are you better off than you were with the birds of la vibora?
i wanted to doodle some hamilton for the first time in ages but this time using the west end cast (that i’ve had the pleasure of seeing twice) because they deserve more love.

Lin-Manuel Miranda helped to heal a nation last night at the Tony Awards; this is my thanks.
Diggs, a star of Broadway’s “Hamilton,” said the film comes with a definite message in the Black Lives Matter era. “There’s an advocacy for empathy in the film,” he said. “So if there’s anything that the film is arguing for, it’s this idea that you probably have blindspots no matter who you are. And it’s worth investigating them.” (x)
How can you say no to this?
rafaelcasal Time to begin celebrating our brilliant cast, and it seems fitting to start with the birthday girl, the transformative artist @jazzy_joness. Jasmine is the kind of multidisciplinary artist that inspires me to write things just for her to bring to life. A force of an actor and vocalist, she commands the screen as ASHLEY in our new movie @blindspotting, and people won’t believe this brooklyn woman isn’t born and bred from the town. She came to the Bay and immersed herself in our slang, or walk, our energy, to bring it to life on screen as ode to our home. I am so excited for those still out-of-the-know to be as in awe of Jasmine as I am. And for those already head over heels obsessed with the Cephas, you aren’t ready for how she delivers in this film. I am certain I will look back on this moment and just feel thankful that I had the privilege to do so many scenes with such a FORCE. Check Jasmine Cephas Jones as ASHLEY in @blindspotting, in select theaters now and wide July 27th!

I hear people all the time criticizing musicals by saying “why can’t they just say what they mean instead of singing and dancing about it?” and for years the only answer I’ve had was a smile and a shrug, but I finally just figured it out.
It’s because the words by themselves aren’t enough.
Outside the song, there would be almost no moving passion in Javert’s words “This I swear by the stars.” How would He Had It Comin’ be anywhere near as dangerous and vengeful without the lighting and the dance routine? The reprise of Wouldn’t It Be Luvverly is essential to underlining just how much Henry Higgins has changed and damaged Eliza Doolittle. The Mary Poppins chimney sweeps would just be weird guys off the roof if they didn’t have their whole zany song and choreography to make them a funny and interesting group. And there aren’t any words in any language to describe the complete change in Leslie Odom Jr.’s voice as the music cuts off and he solos “I…wanna be in the room where it happens, the room where it happens.”
The reason we have musicals–and the reason we have music in general–is because words aren’t enough.
