Airway Pressure for Curing Sleep Apnea
Continuous airway pressure treatment is also called as CPAP in short form. This treatment is used to cure the disorder of sleep apnea. It also cures snoring. CPAP has proved itself to be very effective for curing this kind of sleeping disease. It is often used by therapists as a main method of treatment. Sleep apnea is a disorder of sleep that causes a patient to come to a stop in the process of breathing during the natural process of sleep.
A patient suffering with the problem of sleep apnea might face five to thirty stops of breathing in an hour. Every stop lasts for more then 10 seconds. Sleep apnea is divided into two groups. Obstructive sleep apnea takes place due to a restriction in the airways of the patient. Central sleep apnea is caused due to a break in the nervous signals that are transmitted from the brain to the lungs.
Continuous airway pressure treatment is very useful in cases like OSA but it may not prove fruitful in case of central sleep apnea. CPAP functions by a supplied stream of pressurized air to the lungs of the patient. In this condition the patient has to wear a mask while sleeping. The air is supplied at a definite rate as set by the doctor very often at the center of sleeping. The ideal air pressure is determined through the observation of the doctor. Ideal pressure of air is the pressure at which disorder of sleeping apnea is stopped or reduced. There are some new kinds of CPAP machines that contain a feature through which air pressure decreases on exhalation of air by the patient.
It is used for improving the convenience of the device. The new technology of air pressure monitoring is computer based. A sophisticated computer makes adjustment of the air pressure to keep it maintained at an optimal level. Machines of continuous airway pressure treatment are now available for purchase by public.
