Hypopnea is a general breathing disorder that is characterized by slow rate of respiration and shallow breathing. Hypopnea is also called orthopnea in this kind of breathing disorder a patient feels shortage of breathing while lying on the bed. Feeling of breathlessness and failure in respiratory system is also experienced by a patient suffering from this breathing disorder. The patient finds it very difficult to respirate after lying down on one side.
Hypopnea is not just about shortness of breathing or absence of respiration. It is actually known as the abnormal rate of respiration when the patient does not receive sufficient quantity of oxygen in the lungs. In this condition the upper airway of the human body experiences periodic break. The level of oxygen in the blood also goes down in this condition while sleeping. Superfluous drowsiness and snoring are the most common signs of hypopnea. A person suffering from this breathing disorder snores at the time of sleeping. He feels tired and exhausted even after having a sleep of long hours. Persons suffering from this breathing disorder experience certain symptoms like poor concentration, memory loss, headaches during morning hours and irritability. These symptoms definitely occur during certain time at once.
Hypopnea can make a patient suffer adverse results if it is not treated within a stipulated time period. Poor quality and lack of sleep due to this sleep apnea can make the brain of the patient very weak. In this condition the patient is not able to concentrate in his daily work.
