#me when a bad b1tch tells me to do something
I actually love the Louis and Regina subplot because it really is a continuation of the way Louis has always treated women, as a source of emotional labour that he can throw money at and have them make him feel better. It’s Miss Lily all over again, it’s “paying a whore to sit in a room and talk with him”. Making Claudia was always about Louis’ feelings under the pretence of saving her from the fire. He wants to save Regina from poverty but it’s all to make himself feel better. She sees through him but she’s so broke that she can’t afford to say no
My favorite thing about Armand is that, beyond being scary and intimidating in an ancient vampire way, he’s also weird and off putting in a way that feels both hilarious and endearing. He does things that no other vampire in existence would ever consider. Goes through a divorce and proceeds to join AA because of his love for steps and rituals? Brilliant! Deranged! Lovely! Dresses up as Louie’s employ so he can wait hand and foot on the man he’s been secretly in love with for 50 plus years? That’s innovative in its insanity! He’s mimicking human behavior in ways never before conceived of and doing a piss poor job at it! It’s awkward and charming, and ironically, the most human thing about him.
The Girl. The God.

THE VAMPIRE LESTAT
Feed her only ashes.
So much crazy shit happens in The Vampire Lestat that we're not even talking about Carol Papong paponging a ping pong directly into Lestat's hand and him saying "thank you Carol" and then Gabrielle catching one as well
I believe had Gabrielle been allowed to be head of the family, she would have lead well and they would have prospered
But she was a woman
So instead she was used to make babies, her body violated and used and her life risked and she was forced to watch five children die, two children grow up to abuse her, and one child be abused just like her
Disrespected, trapped, abused, driven mad by the knowledge she was smarter and braver than her husband and sons but would never be respected or listened to
Lestat was the one thing she could put her hope into. A smart boy who she wanted to get educated. A creative boy she wanted to be free. A brave man she wanted to see fulfill his role. If she couldn't do it, maybe he could
But I think that came later. I think at first he was just another millstone dragging her down. Another baby sucking the life out of her. Another child she would have to watch die. That's why she was cruel and cold to him at times. She couldn't afford to love him, because the pain of losing him (either to death or by becoming the same as his brothers) would be too much to bear
And possibly by the time he came around, she'd lost what spark of kindness she may have had. Drowned out by the horror of her life.
So Lestat is a chain around her neck, he is her only hope, he represents everything she hates, everything that made her life awful, she wants to be him, she wants to be free of him, he is her son, he is her maker, he is a useful pawn, he is hers and, despite how much she does not want it to be so, she is his
Gabrielle and Lestat will never work out, so to speak, because she will always be Lestat's mother to him
Lestat has loved Gabrielle his whole life
Whereas Gabrielle only started to love Lestat when he grew up. She didn't love him when he was three. She didn't love him when she took him to the witch burning. I don't think she even loved him when they started calling his father and brothers cabbages. I think it developed later.
And I think the fact it was forbidden made it better for her. That's why she doesn't need to stick around. Her love is not unconditional like Lestat's. She even says it. She left because she didn't need him and she came back because she does.
And Lestat knows this but doesn't believe it, you know? Who wants to believe their mother doesn't love them the way they love her? Even after all this time - he's still her son
Lestat wants to believe that he's the exception but to Gabrielle, he is just as much of a chain holding her down as his father and his brothers and the gender roles that kept a genius trapped with no power
He casts you out, and still you carry his water.
