Ryan would pull out a vape and puts in there mouth they take a few puffs from it because this is what they need after a long day looking at the person and gives them a smile. “I like to smoke it clams me down and i’m not so stressed out.” they said to them. @moorbrookestarters
“you do realise these are even worse for you than actual cigarettes?” henry mused, not able to turn his inner doctor voice off. “but to each their own, i suppose. you’re an adult, aren’t you?” he mused as he looked at them, raising his brow lightly.
“I….” she stammered, frozen in the doorway of the office. “Okay so like…don’t kill the messenger right…you know that saying? Let’s um, let’s put that into affect here. Dr. Bernal told me he’s pushing back your next surgery by an hour because he needs the OR. He didn’t tell me why. I delivered the message and now I have nothing else to do with it.” She held her hands up in surrender. “Get mad at him not me, I don’t know why he decided I was the nurse he was going to send to slaughter.”
“nom de dieu de merde,” henry cursed under his breath and let out a breath at summer’s news but she was right -- he couldn’t get mad at her. he wouldn’t even, as grumpy as he was, take his frustration out on the innocent people. “if this asshole thinks he can take my slots just to make his wife’s boobs bigger again, he is going to be very disappointed,” he grumbled and looked at summer, giving her a small smile. “thank you for telling me, though. this hospital is really ran by a group of donkeys, isn’t it.”
eleanor groaned rolling her head back before tilting her head to look at him. “listen, i’m not the smartest when it comes to like doctor-y stuff and i promised my friend i would find an answer for her. can you or can you not have multiple sti’s at once?” the girl asked with no shame. “c’mon, help a girl out.”
henry’s brow rose at hr question, though he wasn’t all that surprised by it. he heard worse, he experienced worse during his residency and med school and he was sure that there was not much that could shock him. “oui, that is absolutely possible,” he replied shortly and looked up at eleanor. “and has your friend never heard of des préservatifs? perhaps going back to high school sex ed classes would be beneficial for her,” he mused in a monotone voice.
“okay so fuck, marry, kill…harry potter, ron weasley and draco malfoy.” perhaps he was drunk but that was besides the point. he was more so bored and a harmless game of FMK sounded infinitely less boring. “play with me and i’ll get the next round.”
“neither,” henry mused as he looked at the other with a bored expression on his face. “harry’s tiny, ron is annoying as fuck and draco is a whiny spoiled baby,” he carried on before putting his glass up to his lips and took a sip of his drink. “now, viktor krum on the other hand. now that is a man of my dreams.”
dylan smokes a cigarette next to the gas station. he’s getting snacks on one of the kiosks. “and a pack of chuddy.” the man behind the counter makes a face, he doesn’t recognize that word. “gum, mate. gum.” he chuckles and pays the man. he bumps into someone he knows and smiles, “aye. how’ve you been? busy? i haven’t heard from you in a while.”
“those things are going to kill you,” henry muses in his thick french accent. he couldn’t help but let his doctor self poke through whenever he saw people willingly do something that could impact their health. nothing much he could about it, he wasn’t going to put adults in a time-out, after all. “well, you know. work gets busy, personal life gets pushed far far away,” he shrugged his shoulders before paying for his wine. “what about you?”

henry was strolling through the grocery store alleys, music playing through the airpods in his ears. he just wanted a couple of snacks before he could finally go home and rest, do nothing for the whole day other than sleep and eat. he knew he wasn’t going to do that, that something was going to keep him up but he liked to have hope anyway. lost in the music and his own world, hen barely paid attention to his surroundings. until someone approached him and started talking to him. “sorry?” he asked before taking his airpod out. “oh! right,” he nodded when her request registered in his head and reached out in the general direction of the chocolates. “which one you want?”

you know that scene in the mummy movie, where evie accidentally tips over a bookcase and a domino effect immediately follows? hero wished she didn’t know what that felt like, but in the current moment she was unfortunately a victim to a smaller yet similar problem. she’d been working on inventory and putting all of the new books in their places, causing stacks of books to be scattered around the bookstore. only when hero stepped back, she nudged a pile just enough to send four others, each a few feet high, tumbling down on the floor with a rumbling series of thuds. whipping around to see the damage, she quickly spun back around with an embarrassed expression, her cheeks reddening when she caught sight of someone in the store with her. “i’m going to take a wild guess and say that you didn’t just so happen to miss that whole book version of dominos display?” she chuckled awkwardly, haphazardly stepping around a pile of novels. “can i help you find whatever you’re looking for so you don’t have to risk tripping over my mess? unless you want to live on the edge, of course.” hero joked with a playful smirk, trying to hide her embarrassment.
since it seemed that henry was going to stay in the states for longer, he figured it would be a good idea to practice his english. after all, medical english was one thing and english english was the other. and there was no better way to learn it than through reading, which unfortunately was something he’d abandoned during his studies. he was currently going through one novel that drew his attention when he heard a loud noise coming from the other side of the store. “merde!” he cursed under his breath before he made his way towards the source of the noise. “are you okay? do you need help?” he asked the blonde, looking her up and down just to make sure she was in one piece.
* ♡ °・ ⤻ composed laughter bubbled over rose painted lips, as manicured nails pressed against a temple, disbelief forming from the interaction, ❛ i did not realise that fashion was something you cared so strongly about. ❜ shoulders shrugged, unmoving on her opinion, as amusement still played in a tone, ❛ but, i’ll say it again, choosing to wear leggings as pants should be seen as crime and is worthy of punishment. ❜
“well, i am french, so i’m supposed to know everything about fashion, no?” henry chuckled, while still filling out his paperwork of the day. “you know, usually i’d agree but one of those make my ass look super good, so it’s hard for me to let that go,” he mused with a teasing hint in his voice. “i was just kidding, cherié. don’t worry, i’ve not lost all my marbles yet.”
alec sat on the counter of the cafe, awaiting customers. he wasn’t really a barista here, but between rehearsals he didn’t mind helping out. they trusted him at this point, so much so that today he was covering a shift for someone. today was a very slow afternoon, and so he was practicing getting into character for his next show. and just as he wiped away his angry in-character tears he heard the bell chime on the door. ‘oh god, hi! hello. welcome! sorry, i was rehearsing. i need a second to clean up.’ he laughed nervously and wiped at his tears, putting the apron back on. ‘what can i get ya’?’
as always after a 24 hour shift, henry wasn’t even sure he was a person anymore. his first steps after leaving the hospital were to get as much caffeine in his body as humanely possible before he would pass out in his flat until his next shift. “bonj---” henry paused as he faced the man with tears streaming down his face, not sure how to react. he let out a breath when the other explained he wasn’t actually crying and henry was so glad for that because he just did not have the energy to deal with that right now. “you sure?” he asked, just to be nice. “uhm, a triple shot espresso, s'il te plaît. and maybe a blueberry muffin?”
James huffed at Henry as he watched him pick up a file before grabbing it from him so he would be forced to put all his attention onto him. “You can’t tell me I’m WRONG. It’s science, Nichols, science.” James rolled his eyes and huffed even louder as he dropped back in his seat, his arms crossed tightly over his chest before he continued his rambles. “You take a cat and dye it red and then make it have babies with a white cat, then you’ll get pink kittens. That’s how colours WORK. Red and white makes pink, everyone knows that. Don’t be so dumb.”
“hey!” henry exclaimed as he yanked the file back from james’s hands. “un, this is confidential patient information, deux, i have no idea where your sweaty hands have been and what you touched,” he rolled his eyes. he took a deep breath as jamie kept talking, only able to take only so much stupidity at once. “are you high, james?” he asked, his brow rised, as he couldn’t possibly figure out any other reason for that.
“All right, that’s it. You know what?” Henry let out a deep sigh before looking up at the other, his eyebrow raised. He picked up the file he had discarded earlier just so he could pay attention to them and opened it, reading it over. “I’m going to busy myself with paperwork for five more seconds and you can rethink if you really want to say what you just said.”
HENRY NICHOLS ( HE/HIM ) is a CIS MALE, TWENTY-SEVEN year old SURGEON who has been living in Moorbrooke for THREE MONTHS. Right now, they are currently residing in MAPLE COURT. It has been said that they look suspiciously like MAXENCE DANET-FAUVEL and if they had to choose a song to describe themselves, they would choose DADDY ISSUES by THE NEIGHBOURHOOD. ( caro, 26, cet, she/her )
hello, this is me, caro and my child henry 💖
TW: MENTION OF DEATH, DIVORCE, UNWANTED PREGNANCY
&. he is a product of a three-month love affair between his parents. his dad was on a business trip in toulouse where he met hen’s mother, initially they were more of friends with benefits and would have never gotten together if they didn’t knock up
&. so they quickly got married but since they didn’t really love each other, there was a lot of resentment in this relationship, which eventually ended up in divorce when henry was 6
&. since then henry has not had much contact with his father; his mother always told him that he just didn’t want to have anything to do with his son but in reality it was her that prevented the father from keeping in touch with henry. she also blamed henry a lot for ‘ruining her life’ and other similar things
&. when henry was 15, his mum passed away. obviously, he couldn’t live on his own, so, his father took over custody of him and henry had no choice but to live with his father, since his mum, an only child, didn’t have any other family.
&. at the beginning, henry was very cold towards his father, blaming him for not keeping in touch, until he heard what it was really like. he still kept his distance but over the years he found out that he actually has more in common with the man than he ever did with his mother. right now their relationship is quite good. they aren’t best friends or anything but there’s mutual respect there
&. after he graduated high school, he enrolled into university, choosing to study medicine. after graduation, getting his credentials and finishing residency, henry felt like maybe he could try his luck back in the states.
&. he moved to moonbrooke just a couple of months ago, so he doesn’t really know places and the town and anyone really
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
best friends (could have met in uni or childhood friends)
hook ups? fwb? exes? sad exes? current flings? henry is not the type of person to get into serious relationships, he was probably in one or two that lasted longer but ended horribly, mostly due to his lack of commitment
maybe step siblings? since his dad started a new family...
His smile widened as Henry ate the cupcake. Merce was just happy to see his friend was enjoying it. The few words the other expressed were enough, too. Mercer decided to be patient with Henry all these years and a lot of progress had been made. There was more progress to go, but he was just thankful to have such a good friend, a best friend that had his back. He was adding some sugar to his coffee when he picked up on the voices. It took a minute for him to realize who the students nearby were talking about. He immediately glanced over his shoulder, surprised at the level of rudeness. His gaze then went to Henry. It didn’t matter if Henry was the grumpiest person on the planet or pretended as if he didn’t care what other people said. Words had the ability to hurt. “Hey, you’re not—“ But the Slytherin stood abruptly.
Henry’s actions spoke the most and it all happened so fast that the blond couldn’t react fast enough. “Hen, your stuff!” His mate kept walking though until he was gone. He quickly picked up the mess so that he can organize it into a pile, but paused when a paper slipped out of Henry’s notebook. A letter to be exact. Mercer fully intended just to put it back into the notebook, but one of the lines caught his attention and pulled him in until he read the entire thing. His brows pulled together, lips parting in disbelief that Henry’s parents could think and speak so awfully to him. It hurt to read, to know his friend was dealing with all that negativity alone and suddenly it made sense. Henry was so good at hiding it. No wonder he was so grumpy. And it bothered him, oh boy did it bother Mercer, who constantly reminded himself to be kind…but this was a rare moment in which he was stuggling to hold on to his temper. The letter only added to his anger as he packed everything up and stood to face the students who dared to speak badly about his best mate. “You should be ashamed of yourselves. You don’t deserve these.” Mercer snapped, snatching back the cupcakes he’d given them, even if they were already bitten into. He wasn’t giving himself time to think over what he was doing or how he’d feel immensely guilty about it later. The Hufflepuff tossed the cupcakes into the trash on his way out of the Great Hall to begin his search for Henry. And it took time because Mercer had to take several deep breaths to calm down and think of where the other could have gone. But he found him soon enough.
“You forgot your stuff.” He started as he approached Henry. The backroom of the DADA class should’ve been the first place he looked, but at least he was there now. Mercer held out Henry’s things. There was a lot on his mind, like the fact his friend was dealing with so much and hadn’t yet felt like he could talk about it. “You’re not. You’re not a hopeless case. They’re wrong, Henry.”
Henry kept walking and walking until he finally reached his hiding spot. He tried his best to ignore how blurred his vision had become, how much the tears welling up in his eyes were messing with his contacts. He ignored the muffled voices of the people, ignoring them when he accidentally bumped into someone. All he wanted, all he needed at that moment was to be alone. Alone so that nobody could see him break down
When he finally reached that backroom of the DADA class, he just let his body take over, too tired to control it. He slumped against the wall, letting the tears fall down his cheeks, trying to take deep breaths to calm himself down. It surely wasn’t the first time people were talking behind his back but this time it hurt him the most. Maybe because of the letter he had read just before or maybe before he really didn’t think he deserved someone so pure and loving like his best friend, Mercer. With a small grunt, Henry wiped the tears away with the sleeve of his robes and closed his eyes, resting his head against the wall. Oh, how he wished Toodles was right there with him - his cat seemed to always manage to calm him down with his purring and soft fur.
But instead, someone else walked into the room. Henry was just about to tell them off, tell them to go away but he noticed it was no one other than Mercer. “Thanks,” he spoke quietly and took his books from Mercer. A snort left Henry’s lips when he heard Mercer’s next words. “They’re not,” he shook his head but kept his eyes on the things now sitting on his lap. “They’re right and everyone sees that but not you, Mercer. Everyone,” he huffed and watched his finger tracing the grapevine pattern of his notebook’s cover. “You just can’t see that and I have no idea why you refuse to see that, Mercer.”
“I do say so.” He lied again, eyes innocent. It’s just that he couldn’t help spoiling his friends a little extra than strangers or people he didn’t talk to as much. He pulled his hand away and gave a toothy grin when Henry finally accepted it. It was great to see the boy smile, and in public! It’s all he really wanted when he gave away snacks, but it meant more coming from Mr. Grumpy Gills. “Is it good?” He prompted, even though he could guess the answer. “I find the time.” He shrugged. “It’s a great stress reliever.” That, and he just loved to bake.
“It is brilliant, Mercer,” Henry spoke with a nod and took another bite of the cupcake. “As always,” he added. He wasn’t really good with using his words and when he did, he’d usually use them to express his bad mood -- he still wasn’t used to the constant positivity the other was radiating even if they’d been friends for years now, mostly because throughout his life there weren’t many positive things that happened to him. But he knew that Mercer knew that he wasn’t great at expressing his feelings and he was forever grateful that the Hufflepuff never forced him or pressured him to do so.
Henry took yet another bite of the cupcake, trying to keep appearances even though he just wanted to devour it all in one bite -- that’s how good it was. That’s when he heard a group of people sitting at a table behind them, talking about him and not even keeping their voices hushed. I don’t get it either, he’s way too good for him, one girl said and the rest nodded their heads. I just don’t understand what does he see in him? Maybe he likes hopeless cases,” another voice rung in Henry’s ears and Henry could feel his entire body stiffen up and the cake in his mouth swelling in his mouth. He swallowed the cake with difficulty as his throat clenched unconfortably. The good mood that he was in just a minute ago completely vanished and Henry could feel the darkness closuing his head once again. Usually he gave no fucks what people were saying about him but this time it was different. It was different because they were right. In Henry’s mind, he absolutely did not deserve having Mercer as his best mate. He didn’t even deserve to have any friend at all, let alone someone so pure and positive as the other. Suddenly the room started spinning and a wave of heat hit him, he could feel everyone’s eyes on him even though most of the people were busy with themselves. He didn’t even realise how tight he clenched his hands in fists until he released them and saw the nail marks on the insides of his palms. The words kept ringing in his ears, mixed with the voices of his parents and the general noise of the Great Hall. Even though it all didn’t last more than two minutes, Henry felt like hours have passed by.
“I... I forgot about my Potions essay,” he only murmured and stood up and grabbed his things. His notebook fell on the ground, though and Henry just hated himself even more at that moment -- he couldn’t even leave the room without making a giant spectacle and grabbing everyone’s attention. His parents were right -- he’s the burden that never should have been born. Henry couldn’t even look at Mercer as he just left all of his things there. He just needed to leave the room as quick as possible. He wasn’t even thinking straight as he made his way through the labirynth of the corridors, making his way to the only place that made him feel absolutely safe and was his hiding spot since his first year at Hogwarts -- the backroom behind the DADA classroom.
