Location ~ The jungle Closed ~ @libbyblum
His ears and the air around still buzzed and hummed. The jungle gave little away. Surrounded by its vivid yellow greens and micro-shimmers of gold, there should be ripples of sounds and loud drops of noises from all directions. Kax could only hear the bubble of a deep stream close by. Nothing more.
If the jungle kept memories perhaps it quieted to listen to Libby’s footsteps. Kaz kept to airless foot falls as much as possible. She was the expert here, so while he walked next to her, his attention stayed sharp enough to follow Libby’s lead.
He wondered why she volunteered to trek beyond the waterfall for what essentially meant a revenge mission for Kaz, however useless it might turn out. Had to be a personal reason for Libby. Kaz found it difficult to imagine anyone who lost years inside the place cared to venture back in.
Kaz caught her gaze as the thought flickered through his head, but he had also noticed something and felt certain Libby did as well. A far too tidy covering of long leaves and brush. Kaz quickly moved to uncover a small encampment. A raised spot to sleep off the jungle floor, an empty vessel for cooking. A canvas bag tied high in a tree.
Before he could get too excited, he heard a splash. A flailing that started and stopped. Kaz looked to Libby and tapped his ear-- did she hear it too? And he pointed in the direction before he began to set off.
