Goddamn I'm actually worried for the Alan Becker fandom, because AvA/M is getting popular on tiktok
Ofc I like and save cool animations or drawings people post there, but I'd like to remind that the "GREEN IS SO HOT AND NONCHALANT AND SO LIKE JAX😍😍" thing started on tiktok
And honestly, I feel like tiktok has ruined fandoms tbh (I'm not saying this about every tiktok user, sometimes you can find EXTREMELY peak fanart there)
But for example Verity. I like the ship Thatmob x Verity, but when people respect Thatmob's boundaries (Thatmob is the creator of this series if someone here doesn't know). I've constantly heard about the drama that people keep drawing NSFW of Verity x Mob, even though Mob said he's uncomfortable with that. Not just suggestive stuff, just straight up NSFW. Or I've seen people ship him with his friend Twixxel (Mob is also uncomfortable with that, because that's a real person and his friend). People used Whispy's voice and put it into AI to make whatever audios they wanted (Whispy is Verity's voice actor) while he literally said to not do that... And there's more to it.
Every fandom that gets popular on tiktok ends up like this:
1. Peak fanart for the first few days/weeks
2. Forgetting all the lore and how well it was written, and ONLY drawing the most popular ship (suddenly everyone loves it and slimes you when you ship smth else)
3. Dramas start, the fandom is filled with NSFW, people are being problematic, people don't respect the creator's boundaries
4. People outside the fandom start calling it cringe and hating it because the problematic stuff is the most popular
5. Suddenly someone finds out that the creator did something bad 473929383 years ago, or spread a fake rumor, so half of the fandom stands by the creator's side, and the other half hates the creator
6. The fandom falls apart and is forever called "corny", even though the series or whatever it was could actually be very enjoyable if these type of people didn't make it look problematic
And that's why I'm worried that tiktok might give this fandom a bad reputation, because to be honest, when a fandom starts being seen as problematic, it usually starts from tiktok.
Of course I'm not saying that shipping is wrong, but it's kinda exhausting to see a new series with huge potential, just to be ruined after a few weeks, because people don't care about the lore anymore
I really hope people on tiktok won't ruin AvA/M's reputation
Now as I'm thinking, the only fandom that I haven't seen anything problematic happen in is Searching for a world that doesn't exist. I love this arg so much oh my
