I'm not aure if other artists of color experience this but something that I've been wondering about is how to describe characters without it being too othering. Like for Artfight for example, I'm sometimes between adding in the description of some of my characters that they are Asian because that is an apart of them and me. But sometimes I want to add that part to the description because I don't want other artists to misinterpret or see them as white by default. It just feels weird to me that some white characters by white and non-white artists don't necessarily have to worry about adding the description of race or ethnicity because their characters are more likely to be depicted respectfully and accurately without the need to clarify (from what I can tell and seen) while I've seen other artists with characters of color adding information about their characters of what to do and not to do for their characters to be depicted respectfully and accurately (such as not whitewashing, not changing specific features, etc). Part of me wants to not have to label or clarify that my characters are Asian because it feels like "hey they aren't the default" a bit to me but if I don't clarify then I risk receiving art of my characters that don't depict them as respectfully or mindfully if that makes sense. I guess I'm curious if other artists experience this and whether its silly for me to be stuck on this and if there's any advice or recommendations on how to approach this moving forward
i completely get this honestly, it's messed up that whiteness is the norm and you have to specify anything otherwise. this ask actually reminded me of a book written by a Black woman where only white characters are identified by their race, while Black characters are treated as the norm and do not have their races mentioned.

Dabi flinched for a brief second before turning around.
"And how did you come to that conclusion?" He wondered aloud, making sure to make his tone slightly mocking to hide his internal panic.
"Shouto starts walking with his left foot," The kid, Midoriya Izuku, explained, as if this observation wasn't completely insane. "You also start walking with your left foot."
"...Is that it?" Compress asked incredulously.
"His eyes are the same as Shouto's left eye." Midoriya continued, "And I can see strands of white in his hair, the same as his brother, Natsuo."
Dabi's hand flew to his roots. "Leave Natsuo out of this." He hissed.
"So you aren't Natsuo." Midoriya stated calmly. Dabi's eye twitched. "Your right eye also twitches just like Shouto's, by the way."
"This is kinda freaky." Toga muttered.
"Since you aren't Natsuo and Fuyumi's taking a vacation, that means one thing." Midoriya concluded. "You're Todoroki Touya."
The bar froze.
"How did you learn that name." Dabi hissed.
"I found your shrine when I was mapping out Shouto's house." Midoriya explained easily. "And since you ARE Todoroki Touya..."
Midoriya suddenly lurched forwards and grabbed Dabi's shoulders.
"WHEN DID HE GET FREE?!" Spinner shrieked.
"I have so many questions for you about Shouto!" Midoriya gushed, his teeth seeming sharper up close. "Like, do you know if your mother kept his baby teeth? Which trash cans are least checked in the house? And-"
Dabi slammed the door open. "Todoroki Shouto." He declared.
Shouto looked up. "Oh. Do I know you?"
Dabi frowned. "I was at the summer camp." He said. "I kidnapped Midoriya."
"Oh." Shouto stood up, and he immediately began to freeze the room. "So, you've returned to die."
"Not anymore, that plan's scrapped." Dabi took out a bottle of water and washed the dye out of his hair, ruining the throw rug.
Shouto's eyes widened in shock. "Touya-nii?" He asked quietly, his ice receding.
"Yeah, hi, yadda yadda. My original plan was to kill you, me, and Endeavor all at once, but that's not important right now." Dabi rolled his eyes. "Listen. I've recently learned that there's all sorts of freaks and weirdos out there that want to steal your teeth or something, so I've essentially come back from the dead to protect your stupid little ass."
Shouto listened to this, and nodded. "Oh, that makes sense." He hummed, even though it really didn't. "Thank you, Touya-nii." He bowed politely, then turned around and went back to polishing the giant steel cage in the middle of the room.
Dabi frowned and peered over Shouto's shoulder. "This is a huge cage." He remarked. "You getting a dog?"
"No." Shouto shook his head. "It's for when I get Izuku."
Dabi blinked. "What the fuck do you mean by that." He demanded. "What do you mean "get Izuku". Who the fuck is Izuku."
Shouto frowned and looked up at Dabi. "Midoriya Izuku." He stated. "The one you kidnapped." He reminded Dabi, as if Dabi forgot who Midoriya fucking was.
"Hey, Shouto," Fuyumi knocked politely on the door jamb, "What would you like for dinner-" She froze.
"T-" Fuyumi began to tear up. "T-TtttttttttttTOUYA-"
"Yes, hi, I'm alive." Dabi groaned. "Look, we can do all the tearful reunions you want later, just-" He grabbed Fuyumi and rotated her so that she was facing Shouto. "Do something sisterly or whatever and tell Shouto he is NOT kidnapping this guy."
Fuyumi looked between Shouto and the cage.
"It's Izuku." Shouto clarified.
Fuyumi nodded. "So, that's why you got the cage?" Fuyumi checked wearily. "Because you're going to keep him as a pet?"
"A pet?" Dabi echoed.
"A pet." Shouto nodded.
Fuyumi sighed and moved to inspect the cage. "If you're keeping him as a pet, you really need to make this thing more comfortable." Fuyumi lectured Shouto. "I'm sure we have some spare pillows around here somewhere-"
"STOP ENABLING HIM!" Dabi screamed. "What kind of big sister are you?!"
"Yo, can we stop fucking screaming while I'm on the phone?!" A voice shouted, and Natsuo stomped onto the scene. "I swear to god I come here for one weekend and TOUYA?!"
"Yes, hi," Dabi sighed, "Hello, NatsuOOF-" Dabi doubled over as Natsuo punched him in the gut. "What the fuck is your problem?!" He gasped.
"You son of a bitch!" Natsuo spat at him. "That's for not taking me to the zoo!"
"From when you were nine?!" Dabi demanded. "Jesus Christ, fucking, I'll take you to the zoo! Whatever! Fuck, just-" He straightened up. "Tell our stupid fucking little brother that he is NOT kidnapping Midoriya Izuku!"
Natsuo paused, then swiveled on his heel to look at Shouto. "Midoriya Izuku?" He squinted. "The guy I found earlier sitting completely motionless in your closet?"
"Are you sure that wasn't the wax figure?" Fuyumi checked.
"No." Natsuo shivered. "No, he was alive."
"Midoriya was here?" Dabi asked, horrified.
"Izuku was here?" Shouto asked, enthralled. To Dabi's further horror, he pulled out a small effigy that looked to be, unfortunately, woven with dark green hair. "Then the hex that I purchased off of www-dot-How2EnsnareUrMan-dot-biz worked after all..."
