The whole "but what about making sure artists receive credit for their work?" objection to copyright reform is especially irritating because treating moral rights (i.e., the right to attribution, etc.) as descending from or strictly subordinate to commercial exploitation rights is a uniquely American perspective. Not only are these two things separable, they are in fact separated in the vast majority of intellectual property regimes – it's basically just the United States that treats attribution rights as a strict subset of commercial rights. Hell, the US schema is arguably worse in terms of ensuring that artists are properly credited than nearly any conceivable alternative, as treating the right to attribution as a subset of commercial rights means that the right to attribution can be signed away. There are lots of places where it's simply inalienable!
(Of course, this also goes for US copyright abolitionists banging on about how giving up the right to attribution is a necessary sacrifice – like, no, it isn't. These things are separable. Treating them like the one inherently descends from the other is literally just you guys.)

ASOIAF bitches have made an entire genre of literary criticism out of twisting themselves into giant, angry knots over how unfair and misogynistic it is that such a huge swathe of women in this text get murdered or tortured or raped for the purpose of influencing the male characters’ storylines but you make a single inadequately deferential point about how many women of color are made to swallow up huge amounts of graphic, intense suffering for that same purpose in the service of white women and they turn into stupefied, pearl-clutching children who just can’t understand why you’re being so mean to their Stronk Female Lead Who Has Been Through So Much
Thank you to @im-dead-inside-soo for providing example number 3,459 of the tired old excuse which has been trotted out in defense of racist and misogynistic media since time immemorial. Maybe next time they can explain to me how Quiet from Metal Gear Solid was just wearing a bikini into combat because she breathes through her skin. After all, everybody knows that books are fully autonomous beings which spawn naturally in the wild like salmon, and are thus incapable of reflecting prejudice!
“What do you mean, that was offensive? I’ve got a textual explanation for why that offensive thing happened right here!”
Assuming someone out there genuinely doesn’t understand what I’m trying to say, and isn’t being willfully ignorant in doing so, let me put this into the most basic terms I can think of. Female characters are often killed and/or seriously harmed for the purpose of moving along their male counterparts storylines. This trope is misogynistic and exploitative, and as such, women complain about it constantly; especially about how much it’s used in A Song of Ice and Fire.
Characters of color are often killed and/or seriously harmed for the purpose of moving along their white counterparts storylines. This trope is racist and exploitative, and is also used in A Song of Ice and Fire. It's particularly noticeable within the plot line of Mirri Maz Duur, who is subjected to a slew of graphic horrors for the sole narrative purpose of allowing a white person to glean insights from her suffering.
As a method of storytelling, this is horrifying. You can not change that by reiterating the made-up details of this made-up white person's made-up circumstances. They are irrelevant, and the choice to hide behind them in a discussion is unproductive and self-serving. The way this series treats it's women of color can be truly repugnant, and deserves to be identified as such. Unfortunately, fantasy fandoms are traditionally white-dominated spaces, and white women are often just as privileged, ignorant and myopic as white men. Because of this, they are able to simultaneously bitch and moan about the injustice of women being tortured so men can react to their pain and uncritically applaud storylines where women of color are tortured so white women can react to their pain!
This is at once hypocritical, childish, and demonstrative of a much broader issue. I have no interest in curtailing discussion of that issue so I can spar in a fantasyland where racist depictions can be justified by the fictitious rules of their invented worlds. If you're interested in talking about the racism prevalent in asoiaf's writing, stick around; if you're interested in scolding me for making you feel bad about your favorite toy, take yourself elsewhere. Because as of right now my point seems to have gone completely over your head.

Okay, I need to complain about Super Mario Galaxy some more. Its handling of Rosalina and Peach were my immediate kneejerk thoughts but after digesting it a bit more, I have issues with Mario and Bowser too.
First, the obvious. The film presents Mario more like a Chris Pratt character than like Mario. Mario's cynical and catty now.
Bowser's first scene reintroduces his feelings for Peach not because Peach is in any way relevant to Bowser's character arc but to set up Mario's romance with Peach by way of having Mario and Bowser bicker over her.
Mario is callous, mean, and dismissive towards Bowser throughout the first act of the film, and it's indicated that this is partly because Bowser is a villain whose reformation he doesn't trust but also partly due to possessive feelings towards Peach, who Bowser openly desires. It's a combination of two sentiments.
-> Bowser is a vile scumbag piece of shit worth less than the bottom of my shoe, and he doesn't deserve a chance at any sort of life beyond the inside of a jail cell. -> And he's making moves on MY WOMAN.
None of which really feels true to Mario as a character. It feels like some hypothetical Legend of Neil version of Mario. Dudebro Parody Mario.
Mario is so unrecognizable in this film that there is actually a joke in the movie where Mario meets Fox for the first time and there's a moment of suspense before Mario is like "Oh, he's a cool guy!" Why is that moment of suspense there? Because the audience is supposed to expect Mario to just hate him on sight.
It's actually treated like a subversion of expectations when Mario sees Fox in the proximity of Peach and doesn't decide to be pointlessly shitty to him.
That is the character they have written.
Which is only made weirder by Bowser's bizarre character arc throughout the film. It's a shocking twist when Bowser genuinely, sincerely turns good.
He actually has turned over a new leaf! He does want to work on himself and stop being such a violent menace, but the constant negative reinforcement from Mario being such a mean-spirited and weirdly possessive piece of shit keeps triggering him into backsliding.
This culminates in Bowser provoking Mario into hitting him, which deactivates the Shrink Mushroom power-up and returns him to normal size, only for him to then reveal his genuine and sincere reformation despite Mario's aggression. He goes on to sacrifice himself for the bros, selling himself into slavery so that they can go help Peach.
...and then Bowser Jr. picks him up and it's a second, separate shocking twist when Bowser genuinely, sincerely turns evil. For love of his son, Bowser abandons his newfound goodness and returns to being the villain for the film.
...movie, what are you doing? What is accomplished by this complete circle of a character arc?
I mean. I know what's accomplished. Jack Black gets to riff onscreen for an hour.
But. Like. It's so weird how they made Bowser a genuine good guy just to make Pratt's Mario look even more like a mean-spirited asshole only to then turn around and have Bowser become the villain again anyway.
What a weird movie.
yeah jelloapoc is so fucking unserious man how tf do you go into danganronpa at all and come out with the idea that naegi and hinata are awful characters. basic ho. go back to defending kirbopher.
like look at this shit man. "kodaka hates women" and hiyoko, touko, and junko are below them while sakura and peko are in "nothing". the way that tier literally only applies to mikan and maybe monomi if you took the looney tunes too seriously. the idea that he decided that a maya fey comparison was a compliment when he famously hates maya fey. fym "so close". do you like anything or have you decided that anything anywhere adjacent to "anime" is worth only contempt and scorn. get bent loser.
straight white people making a romance movie: haha what if it was illegal to have sex? wait what's lawrence v texas. wait what's mclaughlin v florida. wait what's loving v virginia
Someone will say "as a queer person in the heart of empire, my life is in danger every day" and you'll find out they're a developer for Amazon and live in San Francisco or Seattle or some shit, and then you'll meet a trans girl from Alva, OK who's like "Yeah, things are pretty good. AutoZone moved me to full-time."
Someone in a queer group in my current blue city said that they didn't like expressions of solidarity because it "diluted their oppression".

you people gotta get more respectful about disabled and fat people having a sexuality or being sexually desirable 🤷🏾♂️
im tired of it being seen as immoral to find the two/overlapping people from those groups attractive or desirable in a sexual way. I'll be honest, most people who try to advocate for disability or fat lib have been ableist or fatphobic in this instance and it's quite astonishing to see this happen.
