to give a glimpse into what my mind's been fixated on for the past four hours
lining the timeline up with the clues we have so far and realizing dess was probably an early teen when she went missing makes the roaring knights behavior make wayyyy more sense. Of course they'd be a stupid aura farming idiot they're permanently 15 with magic powers
roaring knight: *messes up the plan again by posing cool at the top of the stairs and fucking around with the heroes because they can*
kris, now as old or older than dess when she went missing: ohhhh my fucking god was she actually like that and I didn't notice because I was 8 years old. oh god
having to do a group project with the person you viewed as a cool older sibling but you're older than them now because of some bullshit and you're realizing how cringe they are. monumental aura loss cascade
BREAKING NEWS !!! Denki kaminari getting some one-on one private lessons from Pro-Hero Tailman !?!?
when you realize that the average abled person does not expect disabled people to exist in public life and therefore never consider that a disabled person might also be in their online/offline communal space and hear/see what they and their friends are both saying about disabled people and entertaining the people who say these things, a lot of the discussion surrounding disability and disability rights in even the most "progressive" spaces makes a lot of sense
in 2018 i was in a discord server for lgbt people. slurs targetting lgbt people were banned, but the r slur was not. somebody called me the r slur and i wasnt happy with it. i got muted for "causing problems" and was told that while other slurs were banned, if they "banned every word that someone was offended by, thered be no more words left"
years ago i saw a post online of a screenshot reposted to a more "progressive" space. the screenshot was an obvious edgelord troll saying "mentally disabled people should be killed and used as meat". people were saying that this person simply needed to be educated, on what exactly im not sure, but i think there wouldve been a very different reception if the poster had said transgender people instead of mentally disabled people
there was another discussion online about the "ethics" of a caregiver of a disabled person murdering said disabled person. the general consensus was that "if they are suffering they should be put down". however usually the disabled people in these situations cant communicate one way or another and lets be honest, most caregivers of disabled people who kill their dependent are doing it out of personal convenience alone. people called it a "good" and "interesting" discussion. people who said that disabled people should have the right to life were downvoted
there was a trans man who went viral a year or so ago named micah leroy. micah is disabled. specifically, he has some motor issues and a speech impediment. people were posting that micah was "a young girl groomed by the trans mob and mutilated when she cant consent" when he had top surgery. micah was 19 years old and a college student. he is his own advocate. he does not have a cognitive disability that limits his ability to go to college for a degree, let alone to make his own decisions involving his own body. people said that because he had a speech impediment and motor issues that he must be cognitively impaired and "forced" to do this. they called him a child. he was 19 and in college studying disability/lgbtq+ studies and political science and went viral and was repeatedly misgendered and infantilized by people who saw his disability and believed that it made him incapable of consenting to gender affirming surgery and likened him to a little girl "groomed" by gender affirming doctors
i have seen all of these things. i am a disabled person. i know disabled people. i have seen first hand that even the most "progressive" abled leftists simply do not consider disabled people in their activism because they just dont believe we exist in public life. people are comfortable saying and entertaining horrible ableist rhetoric about our right to life and discussing us like we arent there, because to them, we arent. to them we don't go outside or on social media, we cant comprehend what they're saying about us, and we certainly cant speak for ourselves. disabled people make up roughly 20% of the population and disability is a marginalization that you can become a part of at any time, and you are significantly more likely to become a part of as you age. abled people dont understand that they can become disabled very easily, and that your life doesnt just end once you become disabled. disabled people still go outside. disabled people go to the grocery store, disabled people go to the museum and aquarium and the park, disabled people are on your online forums watching you say that you believe disabled people who cant communicate effectively should be killed by their caregivers. so just consider that when you see something like this happen

Lee and I are working on our Deltarune conspiracy board and I just had the realization that everybody draws Dess as a teenager in their flashback comics and stuff because we're always thinking about her in the context of Asriel in the current canon, but I don't think that's accurate.
We don't have concrete dates for any of the kids' ages or how long ago the original disappearance happened, but Kris is currently "a teenager" and Asriel just left for college recently, which puts him around 18 now. The age gap isn't that big, it could only be five years at the very most. Putting aside sprite art limitations, Kris and Noelle looked pretty small when Dess disappeared; enough that Kris was still wearing their headband around. I really love all the cute comics and art that depict the two of them getting to be dirtbag teenagers together or teenage Dess valiantly defending baby Kris from the thing in the shelter, but the time that Asriel and Dess would have been hanging out, and the time she disappeared, would have maybe put them both around the age Kris and everybody else is at now (probably younger imo).
I think we've all been taking the cues from Kris and Noelle that their siblings were cool and mature and way older and setting it against the image we have of Asriel being an adult now, but I think the older kids would have only been like 14 at the oldest when everything went down.
do not start gambling. go outside and locate a bug. now post it on inaturalist. bam. nature's gacha game
The "gambling" reward pathway aka the inconsistent reward pathway literally evolved for things like this! Foraging! Trying new recipes! Experimenting with a new technique while crafting! Any essential human activity that might get you something useful, but also might just make some trash.
There is nothing inherently unhealthy about that reward feeling! You can have that same feeling in a healthy way!!!! Corporations are taking advantage of it for profit, don't let them!!!!!!
Mushroom hunting! Birding! Trying a new technique in a craft you're already familiar with! Mixing random sauces in your fridge to see if any of them taste good!!!
We (Zelda fans) need to one up Deltarune fans we also need to make a cafe. It will be required that every worker know nothing about food safety we will invent food poisoning 2 #mytruth
My nose started bleeding is my deltarune cafe takoyaki tulpa going to kill me yes/no

I fail to see how the Monsters of Inc. were persuaded to care about the welfare of children who to them were no more than an anonymous, alien resource necessary for the convenience of their lives. They weren't even the same species of them. Yet they overhauled their whole energy economy to be more humane toward this hated other, which had no legal rights in their society, and which most of them had never even seen. It really makes no sense, if anything it's sort of a perversion, like if you actually lived with that level of concern and empathy you wouldn't be able to function at all. You would be, just, fucking debilitated. Just psychologically crushed. Idk it's just not that plausible to me. And Randall, the lizard. He isn't that fuckable either.
Valid use of "Read to the end."
Quite... interesting conversation
see the thing is quite a lot of tumblr prose is like that because it largely wishes to emulate and, if that proves too subtle, essentially become the illusion of terry pratchet and somehow galvanize, revolutionize, and otherwise rock the general tumblr bibliosphere. the main issue with this, as one could surmise and other words that rhyme with "rise", is that every single one of these posts fail to consider that they are not, in fact, terry pratchet, and that his style of satire, comedy, and overall subversion requires a general enjoyment of and appreciation for the very tropes these posts so deeply despise. the other reason it all falls flat is because quite a few of them are just utterly lacking in pacing and wit.
there's a secret problem in that everything MUST revolve around some grand, world-shaking twist that always elects to put the Ideal Person on top, to justify humanity. the little guy must be secretly the most important person in the world, or the reason that humans are so powerful is that they can change unlike elves or the new thin waif du jour. and this is and can be a power fantasy, but it's ill-suited for the type of fiction tumblr posters would rather be writing - a story where a dragon has sex with what is essentially, to them, a very annoying bird.
this in itself reflects on a sort of incuriosity within tumblr prose, this incapability to explore something that isn't just Fantasy Trope But Different. tumblr prides itself on being largely improvisation, yet the stories they tell don't simply take a basic premise and walk through it. it must be a snappy twist, some quip that can be repeated on incorrect-star-trek-quotes, and then a palpable lampshade moment where everyone pauses, turns to the screen, and goes, "wow! i was expecting a cool answer!" and, most importantly, it cannot be interesting. it must be a twist, yes, but the twist must be a mundane explanation that reinforces the status quo. the world is vast, but it must be small enough that adventurers feel stupid for ever thinking it could be exciting.
this was all a very long ramble fueled by a sleeve of rice cakes that overall is meant to convey: stop writing to go viral. the next time you get a writing prompt, take the time to go for an interesting route. and sometimes you don't need to shoehorn in a sex joke oh my GOD
