Q2 WEEK 6 - final presentation
Q2 WEEK 6 - photo studio
Q2 WEEK 6 - room divider adjustment
Added the fabric and the legs.
Q2 WEEK 6 - ceiling
Next up was the ceiling. For this I made a pattern like I did for the walls. But first I had to cut out some holes. In front of these I want to put fabric, so that the light will be dimmed. These lights will shine upon the display object and the lamp + chair.
After this I was able to put the box together!
Q2 WEEK 5 & 6 - walls
For the walls I want to make a subtle pattern that flows through the room. I did this by using a sort of paneling decoration inspired by the wooden connections that I used in Q1.
First I started out in Rhino making a 6,5x6,5 grid on all the walls and the ceiling. Next I puzzled with different configurations until everything was well connected to each other.
Next it was time to actually make it!
Q2 WEEK 5 - floor
I decided to make the floor out of a mat paper. I still cut out all the separate pieces to make sure you can still feel the texture of the edges.
Q2 WEEK 5 - display
Making of the display. I will probably add fabric to the rectangles that are now done with coloured paper.
Q2 WEEK 4 - feedback
After the presentation I started to work on the feedback that I got from the group.
These were the notes that I got. From here on I decided to lift up the display closet in order to make it accessible for adult visitors. The lower information board could be for, for example, children. Maybe I will even make it adjustable.
Next I still had to figure out the composition, but I think I'm finally satisfied with the one I came up with now. It is mainly based on the route that the visitors will walk.
Q2 WEEK 4 - mid-term presentation
I finally have decided that I will develop my last option that I showed in the post before. After that I started to think about the different compositions this design could work. Unfortunately, up until the mid-term presentation I still couldn't figure out what to do and I had some other problems that I couldn't fix right away.
Luckily, during the presentation I got a lot of useful feedback from my group which will help me a lot I think!
Q2 WEEK 3 - concepts
These few days I experimented with a lot of different configurations of the screens.
Here you can see different options and some other ideas. Afterwards I started to visualize it in 3D in Rhino.
option 1: screens as big as the closet.
option 2: screens scaled up so that it forms an actual room divider.
Option 3: the screens spread across the room to create more space for the closet and chair. In option 1 and 2 I didn't really know where to put these.
Option 4: the screens are set up against each other forming a box.
I still don't know where to put the closet and chair in all four of the options, so next part is figuring out which option I want to elaborate further and where I want to display them.
Q2 WEEK 3 - concepts
Again a lot of sketches and new ideas. I finally came across an idea that I would like to develop further.
The idea is to have 7 screens that together form the silhouette of the closet if looked upon from a certain angle. These screens can rotate which can lead to different ways to set up the room. Next, I will try come up with various compositions in which this concept could work.
Q2 WEEK 2 - sketches
Based on the moodboard and the moodcube I began with a lot of sketches. I haven't figured out yet which one I would like to develop further.
Q2 WEEK 2 - Lakenhal museum
On Wednesday, together with Ilse, i went to the Lakenhal museum.
Q2 WEEK 2 - moodcube
For the moodcube I first thought about the materialisation. I wanted both the chair and the closet represented in it, which is why I chose for the cheese cloth and black fabric to return. The grid of the closet is also used in the “wall”. I also wanted something that contradicts my previous work. So instead of only using a firm wooden look, I went for a transparent looking box made out of glass. I could imagine this being some sort of display box in which elements/information is shown. Taking this a little step further, I made it rotatable.
Q2 WEEK 1 - sketches
A few first sketches. After the lesson on Friday, I discussed with my teachers that it would also be nice if I took a step back from the Japanese style and take on a more neutral approach.
Q2 WEEK 1 - mood board pt. 2
I made an another mood board, more inspired on a “living room”.
Q2 WEEK 1 - moodboard
Today I made my moodboard. One thing I know for sure, is that I want to keep on designing within the Japanese style. This is my first concept, maybe I will come across more ideas in the following days.
