Saturday Night Stomp | 1940s Meet Me At The Savoy! Photo Series (3 of 4)
The Savoy Ballroon was located in Harlem New York and open from 1926 to 1958. It was one of the most famous dance halls of the swing era and home to legendary dancers like Frankie Manning, Norma Miller, Leon James and Al Minns. The Savoy was an integrated ballroom unlike many of it’s contemporary ballrooms like the Cotton Club.

YOU GUYS WANT NEWS? I GOT YOU NEWS.
We are bringing NOLA to So Cal.
Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns will be playing for us in coastal Ventura County May 28th. This is their ONLY stop in Southern California. Only stop. O-N-L-Y S-T-O-P.
Brought to you by the same ladies behind Swing at the Inn. This isn’t a bar gig. This isn’t a concert. This is an honest to god dance (okay, but we’ll have a bar) and I better see all of you there.
Stay tuned for pre-sale details, prices, times, website info, Facebook event link, etc.
(Don’t know who Meschiya is? Shame on ya.)
I kinda want to go.
You should come! Do you dance in the area? We have beginning swing lessons on Thursday nights at the golden china!
This is right after I get back from Frankie 100. I'M SO THERE.

Derp moment of the night: getting asked for a dance by Chester Whitmore and not realizing it until the end of the song.
My boyfriend and I signed up to take beginner swing dancing lessons. I really enjoyed our first three lessons. Then my parents came to town and we all…
Hey tumblr hoppers, if you have a reddit account, would you mind heading over here and giving some advice to a follow in need? The swing dancing subreddit is predominantly male and predominantly leads, and they are frankly giving terrible advice. Well… mediocre advice poorly said. Way too much “just turn your brain off” and “just follow” and “you don’t learn moves, HE learns moves.” Blaaaaarg.
Yup. I chimed in earlier to reinforce the fact that shutting off our brains isn't a part of following. While the subreddit is predominately male and predominately leads, this passive perspective on following is sometimes shared by women and follows. It's disappointing to say the least.
