He looked at you from the television screen—seeing you bound to the metal table, never fighting against the restraints unlike the other prime assets.
You were different from the other prime assets. So different. His hand rested on your thick file that had records of crimes that you had committed in the span of your youth to your adult life and then nothing. You had a created a normal life despite having a being
He watched the medical aides pulled out the glass bits from your bloodied skin with such caution due to your somewhat perverse and explosive behavior that made you etch yourself in the Murkoff corporation’s scope.
Yet, he noticed the odd affection that the Doctor held over you—he knew that you were one of the prized prime assets that had special treatments other than Barbi. Don’t put your hand into the bear trap. This was simple, you were bound to a metal table and he needed to ask some questions about Collier and he knew how to get them. He just needed to stick his hand into the bear trap once more.
“You—what did you do!” You shouted at him. “You took—it was mine!”
“You failed,” he stated.
Your eyes burned into him—your hands struggled at the restraints that only seemed to tighten more and more with each thrash.
“Now what happened?” His hand remained on the rusted electrical box that he had attached cables to it and placed the metal clippers onto your skin. “Where’s the behavior that you had minutes ago?”
His hand tugged on the metal clipper, hearing the perverse groans escape from your bloodied lips. Which finally brought an exhausted smile to his lips, each tug remembering how badly you had injured him during your selection to becoming a Prime asset.
“You like that?” His thumb pressed on the unclean gash from where a reagent threw a bottle at. “You do, don’t you?”
Your head had tilted back against the metal table while broken moans escaped your cracked lips; clearly enjoying every single second.
“Use your words,” he ordered. “Do you like it?”
“Ye-Yes,” you stammered out.
Clyde pulled away despite your bloody pleas to come back and please you—his hands adjusted the metal clippers on your skin to clip onto more tender parts of your bloodied electrocuted skin.
His bloodied fingertips managed to pull up a small portion of soft flesh from your left forearm; revealing the plushy tissues surrounded by the thin layer that covered the intricate muscles. The pain mixed with the indulgence of pleasure swam around your body—it was something that Easterman’s coddling couldn’t give the sweet relief to your disturbed pleasures.
Your eyes rolled back as his thumb pressed against the soft inner layer of skin, the blood that coated his thumb. As his whispers to coat you in hot wax to solve the deviant tendencies that only seemed to bloom more with each visit he did.

Love and lust were complicated emotions to express. Working for Murkoff has numbed those feelings, made them null and void for most. Perry found it easy to ignore those urges; work consumed his life, and in his field of work, there wasn't much time to flirt or mingle. Instead, he found himself watching others fall for the trap that was basic human instinct. He indulged, but only in vices like drink and nicotine. Lusting over flesh, over women, over men, where not something Perry bothered or entertained since it would only get people hurt.
He might be around to see tomorrow, or he might die that same day. In the end, it wasn't worth it to invest in someone whom Murkoff will tell him to cut off. That was his promise to himself. Didnt matter how many hookers he spoke to for assignments or how many bars he visited to get some intel on a target. No matter how far or how long it took him to complete his tasks, he told himself he would never fall for anyone.
You ruined this for him. He met you at the bar while he was bribing the bartender. You eyed him from the side and sat yourself down a seat away from him, waving another bartender in the process. You nursed your drink, waiting for an opening to speak to him, only for him to address you first.
Your conversation was mellow. Pleaseant even. He indulged your curiosity, and you festered his interests. You were so unique. Unrequitedly yourself and so refreshingly honest. You were like this freedom he never knew he wanted.
You invited him back to your place, liquor on your lips, seduction on your tongue. Your eyes wandered to his face as your hands explored his body. His body felt like it was on fire as you caressed him and kissed his exposed skin. He wasn't eager to have this end, so he let himself indulge.
He bit your neck, made sure to leave his mark on your skin, and sucked on the bite mark to leave a dark bruise. His hands found your own and helped you take of his clothes, his hat being the first thing to go before his shirt and his pants. He helped you undress, but not before leading you to your bed, where he straddled you. You liked playing with hair, pulling at it to guide his mouth to your neck and chest. He loved the way your hands gripped at flesh and caressed his legs. You mentioned his eyes, loving, breathy, soft words that felt like you were begging him to show you more of him.
This carnality, this need of the flesh, ate at him as you took care of him. His gasps and his groans belonged to you and him. This was a sanctuary from his work, from the world. You were his safe haven from Murkoff and their demands. You were everything.
By the time morning came, he was left all alone in your bed, in your home, in your sanctum. You left him a note stating that you had left for work, and that he was welcome to stay. He wondered if he could stay a while longer. It was better than sleeping in his car, better than sleeping in a shitty motel. He dressed himself all while observing the purple bruises that littered his skin.
Perry left his own note behind, hoping you would take what he wrote down into consideration. You were a stranger at a bar. A nobody he just met. But to him, in those hours he shared your heat, your body, your mouth, he felt like he had known you forever.
Murkoff will consume him, it will eat at him, but only you could have him. Heart and soul, it was yours even if it was just for a night.
I am very excited about this chapter and I hope you all like it! I won't say much but, things are coming together!

My Neighbor Eddie
Chapter 3
“I’ll be over in a bit!” you called out to Eddie’s retreating form, who acknowledged you with a flash of that damned charming smile before disappearing into his home. You stood rooted to the spot for a moment, your mind warring over whether or not this was a good idea. Something deep in your gut was telling you to just give him a chance but, what would he think if he found out you knew about his past?
Taking a deep breath, you went back to your home to freshen up a bit before making your way to Eddie’s door and knocking on it.
“It’s open, darling!” Eddie’s voice came from behind the door, followed by the sound of him whistling something.
This was it. No going back now.
You cracked the door open and tentatively stepped inside, eyes darting around to take in your surroundings. In the few days Eddie had been in this house he actually managed to make it feel quite cozy. It was still a bit barren, yes but, it had a very homely charm to it.
As you stepped further into the ex-Variant’s sanctum, you noted how clean and proper it all was. Everything in it’s place, everything absolutely spotless. Your gaze traveled to the kitchen where Eddie stood over the counter, looking like the textbook definition of domesticity. Sleeves rolled up to his elbows, an apron tied neatly around his sizable frame and humming some tune from a bygone era.
You stood in the kitchen’s entry way simply watching him. Feeling your eyes on him, Eddie looked over his shoulder at you and let out a small chuckle.
“You’re welcome to sit down, darling. Unless you prefer to stand, of course.”
Shaking yourself from your thoughts you perched yourself at the kitchen table and continued your observation, watching as Eddie assembled your lunch for the day.
“So, how long have you lived here, little bird?” Eddie asked as he plated up the sandwiches.
“Oh..uh...I actually grew up in that house so, I’ve pretty much been here all my life.”
Your leg bounced anxiously and you couldn’t help but fidget a bit. You had to stop yourself from watching Eddie like a hawk for any sign of hostility.
Satisfied with his work, Eddie brought the plates over to the table and set one down in front of you before fetching a pitcher of tea from the refrigerator and pouring you a glass. He sat across from you and poured himself a glass, his eyes briefly darting up to meet your unwavering gaze.
“Darling, you don’t have to wait for me. Please, enjoy!”
“Oh! Sorry. I..got lost in thought.”
You picked up the sandwich and took a bite, letting out a pleased sound as the flavors hit your tongue
“This is good, Eddie!”
“Thank you, darling. Roast beef, sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato and spicy mustard. And it has to be on a Kaiser roll. My favorite!”
The two of you ate in silence for a bit and you took that time to examine the space a bit more, noting the cameras dotted around various parts of the house. No doubt that was something tied to the white coats you’d seen visiting Eddie throughout the week.
“They’re for observation,” Eddie stated, as if he had read your mind,”The doctors insist on keeping an eye on me.”
Your mind flashed back to the headlines and you fully understood why the doctors might want to keep such a close eye on someone like Eddie.
The Groom’s glacial gaze watched you, noting your body language from across the table.
“Darling, are you alright? I can’t help but notice that you seem a bit..anxious around me.”
You froze mid-bite. There was a decision to be made here. You could either tell Eddie the truth, that you knew about his past, or you could make up something.
With a heavy sigh you put your sandwich back on it’s plate and cleared your throat. You suddenly took a very strong interest in the crumbs on your plate, refusing to look Eddie in the eyes.
“I..well…”
How do you tell a killer you know they’re a killer?
“I..I found some..things about you, Eddie.”
He looked at you expectantly, waiting for you to continue. You shook your head and huffed.
“I..your name sounded familiar to me. Like I had heard it before. So..I did a search for you..”
Eddie put his sandwich on it’s plate and leaned back in his seat,”And what did they say about me, darling?”
The kitchen suddenly felt too small, almost claustrophobic.
“Erm..well...there were headlines..about..about m-murder and..”
“Darling, look at me.”
Slowly, hesitantly, you met Eddie’s icy eyes.
“I..I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have gone snoop-”
He held up a hand to silence you, leaning forward on the table to be more on eye level with you.
“I won’t hide it from you. You were bound to find out some things at some point, darling. Yes. I..did things that I very much regret now. I killed women that wronged me, that reminded me of my mother.”
He paused to gauge your reaction. Despite your wide-eyed stare, he took in a deep breath and continued.
“And..I suppose you found the infamous article about my...my family?”
Your heart beat wildly against your chest as you nodded your head, confirming that you did, indeed, know about that part as well.
For a moment, Eddie said nothing and you wondered what was going through his mind.
“Darling,” he began again, breaking the deafening silence,”I want you to listen to me. I went through thirteen years of recovery and rehab..”
“Thirteen?!”
“Yes, little bird. Thirteen years of facing that darkness head on, confronting the man I used to be.”
Eddie shook his head,”..I don’t want to be him anymore.”
His expression turned melancholic and you considered reaching out to him, your hand making it halfway across the table.
“Eddie..”
He turned his attention to you, the usually cheerful giant now looking more like a hollow shell. You swore you could almost see the scared little boy still trapped behind those eyes.
“You’re afraid of me..aren’t you, darling?”
A frown etched itself onto your face,”I..I was, yes. Especially..knowing what I know now.”
Eddie nodded in understanding.
“But,” you continued,”..everyone deserves a second chance, Eddie.”
As your words sunk in, Eddie’s demeanor shifted,”..a second chance?”
You nodded. For the second time since meeting you, something bloomed in Eddie’s chest. That firework feeling he got the first time he met you returned and exploded!
“Darling..what are you saying?”
“I’m saying that, if you truly want to change, you should be able to do so..without your past getting in the way. And..I’d like to help.”
He searched your face, seemingly looking for any sign of deception,”You...does that mean..we could be friends, darling?”
Once again, you nodded,”I think, with time, we could certainly be friends, Eddie. I..just have a good feeling.”
A wide smile cracked through the gloom on Eddie’s face and he almost looked like he could kiss you.
“Oh, darling, I would be delighted and honored to call you my friend! I…”
He paused, his eyes suddenly welling up. Try as he might, he couldn’t hold back the tears that escaped from him,”..I don’t remember the last time I had a friend.”
Seeing the titan of a man shed even the slightest of tears tugged at your heartstrings and without thinking you pulled his larger frame into a tight hug. He went rigid in your arms, and you wondered for a second if maybe the sudden affectionate gesture made him uncomfortable. However, he returned the hug, squeezing you a tad bit too tight and eliciting a small grunt from you. The warmth of that hug and your declaration of future friendship would forever be a defining moment for Eddie and the beginning of one unshakable bond.
A little bit of a shorter chapter. I just had to get the idea out and into text. I hope you all enjoy! Chapter 2 under the cut!

My Neighbor Eddie
Chapter 2
About a week had passed since Eddie moved in next door. You’d mostly spent that time observing him from a distance and taking mental notes about him. The more you saw him, the more something gnawed at the back of your brain. Eddie Gluskin. Why did that name ring a bell somewhere in the recesses of your mind? Curiosity got the best of you and you sat down at your computer, your fingers flying over the keyboard as you put in a search for Eddie’s name. Your heart skipped a beat as your eyes scanned the results.
“No way..,” You muttered under your breath as you continued to scroll through headlines with words like “Mutilated” and “Murderer” in bold typeface. You recalled hearing whispers about an apprehended murderer when you were younger. It had to have been Eddie they were talking about. You sat back in your chair, your brain working overtime to process this new information. Your new neighbor was a killer. And not just any killer, he targeted women and mutilated them beyond recognition. The Eddie you were acquainted with was so kind, almost a gentle giant.
You drummed your fingers on your desk, deep in thought,”Is that why you were in recovery, Eddie?”
As you turned your eyes back to the screen, another headline caught your attention: “Gluskin Brothers Arrested, Charged with Child Sexual Abuse.”
Once again, your curiosity itched inside your brain, urging you to click on the link. Scanning through the article, you noticed it was from the year 1983. The first paragraph read:
“Boulder, Colorado – May 6th, 1983
Two brothers living in Boulder, Colorado have been arrested and charged with child sexual abuse, violence and neglect after a concerned teacher made a report to local authorities.
Ilya Nikolai Gluskin and Yevgeny “Eugene” Dmitri Gluskin were arrested and taken into custody by Boulder Sheriff’s Department monday evening after a teacher at Fairview High School made a report that one of her students, the son of Ilya Gluskin, would routinely come to school with bruises and various marks on him…”
You continued to read through the article, horrified at what you saw there. Of course, one name stood out to you: Edward “Eddie” Sergei Gluskin.
Your heart dropped into your stomach and you, once again, found yourself sunk back into your chair processing everything you had just read. The intimidating man living next door to you was once a little boy abused and violated at the hands of his own father and uncle. As you sat in thought, the sound of your doorbell nearly made you jump out of your skin. You quickly closed the browser and went to answer the door. Speak of the devil. Standing on your porch was none other than Eddie himself, looking cheerful as he usually did.
“Ah! Good afternoon, darling! I apologize for interrupting your peace and quiet but, I was wondering if I might borrow some of your yard tools. I..haven’t been able to acquire everything I need just yet.”
You stared at the towering ex-murderer on your porch for a second. Knowing what you knew about him now, you were caught between wanting to run far away from him and give him the biggest hug you could muster. You shook yourself back into the present and shuffled your feet nervously.
“Ah..y-yeah. Sure. Um..I’ll unlock the shed for you.”
“Thank you, darling. I promise I’ll return anything I borrow from you.”
You lead the monolith of a man into your backyard, fishing through your pocket to find your keys. A slightly cold chill ran down your spine as you wondered if this was a good idea. What if Eddie still had a killer instinct and he cornered you in the shed and killed you? Or..what if he truly did change?
Taking a deep breath you put the key into the padlock and swung open the shed door.
“Ah..well, there we are. You can use whatever you might need.”
Eddie flashed you his signature charming smile,”Thank you again, darling. I truly appreciate your kindness.”
You caught yourself staring at him again, unable to fathom that this man was the same one from those articles. He seemed to notice you staring as well.
“Is..everything alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost, little bird.”
“Erm..yeah. I..I’m fine, Eddie. Might just need something to eat is all.”
Eddie perked up a bit, his expression turning a bit unusually sheepish,”Well, if I might be a bit bold, darling, would you like to come over for lunch? I’d be happy to whip up something for us.”
You stood frozen to the spot, unsure of how to respond,”Um...I..”
Eddie put up his hands defensively,“No pressure, darling. Just a simple invitation between neighbors.”
A thousand thoughts buzzed through your head. The headlines, all the various scenarios that could happen, all the things that could go wrong..all the things that could go right. You had to think logically for a second. Yes, Eddie was arrested and incarcerated for murder but, he wouldn’t be back out here in society if he wasn’t ready to do so, right? So, maybe he did truly change. Maybe he just needed someone to give him a chance, to be a friend.
You took a deep breath and nodded,”Sure. We’ll do lunch. Get to know each other a little better.”
“Oh wonderful!” Eddie exclaimed and clapped his hands together,”I’ll get started on some sandwiches for us. And don’t you worry about bringing anything, darling! I’ve got it all taken care of.”
You watched as the giant of a man practically skipped back to his home, an extra little pep in his gait, and you couldn’t help but smile. A lunch date with a literal and figurative lady killer. This was going to be interesting.

My Neighbor Eddie
Chapter 1
Your morning had started just like any other. You woke up and stretched out all of your limbs, working out the stiffness and aches in your bones. Every morning you were reminded that your age was catching up with you as your joints cracked and popped worse than a bowl of Rice Krispies.
Glancing at the clock you groaned and swung your legs over the edge of the bed, begrudgingly pulling your tired body from the comforting warmth of your blanket to drag yourself to the kitchen for a caffeine fix. With a steaming cup of dark roast coffee in hand, you sat at your kitchen table and absently scrolled through your phone. Dismal news alongside little short videos of cats being adorable. The internet was a strange juxtaposition sometimes.
You closed your phone and set it aside, drumming your fingers on your mug. The silence of your home almost felt heavy today. After a few moments of sitting in silence, you picked up your phone again to scroll through dating apps. You hadn’t been lucky so far in your quest to not be so alone but, maybe today would be different. A sound from outside made you pause your scrolling, your ears perking up to tune in. Curious, you went to your window to see what was happening outside. This was a quiet, if not boring, neighborhood and it was rare for anything to go on whatsoever so, maybe you were just a bit starved for some excitement of any caliber.
Peering outside your kitchen window, you saw an unmarked white van and several folks milling about outside the house next door. You thought back for a second, remembering that that house had sold not too long ago. That must mean the new neighbor was moving in today! You continued to peek at the group from between your blinds, casually sipping your coffee, when another figure emerged from the van. He was a muscular, tower of a man. Squinting a bit, you nearly pressed your nose against the glass of your window to get a better look at him. From this distance he looked pretty damn handsome. Dark hair, piercing eyes and what looked like extensive scarring on his face. Was he the new neighbor? You’d have to introduce yourself later once things had calmed down over there.
As the morning gave way to noon, Eddie’s medical team finished moving the last bits of furniture into the house. They tested out the monitoring system to make sure everything was operational and, with everything in satisfactory order, the medical team congratulated the former Variant and wished him well before heading back outside to allow Anna a bit of time with him to go over some things. The two of them sat at the kitchen table and Anna produced a few documents and pill bottles from within her bag. She turned her gaze to Eddie and offered him that warm smile of hers.
“Well, what do you think?”
Eddie’s eyes traveled around the kitchen for a moment, taking in the space, still quite in awe that all of this was actually his.
“It’s..wonderful, darling. With everything that’s happened, I honestly never imagined I’d ever have a home like this..”
Anna’s eyes practically sparkled,”Everyone is very proud of you, Eddie. Your recovery is nothing short of a miracle. I think you deserve this. God knows you’ve earned it after everything you’ve been through. It..couldn’t have been easy.”
Eddie’s expression dropped a bit. Though he was on the path to healing, he would always have the memories of all the pain he endured.
He nodded and sighed,”No, it hasn’t been easy, darling. I’m sure you had to read all about my childhood and-”
Anna put up a hand to stop him,”We won’t dwell on that today, Eddie. I’m not trying to sweep it all under the rug but, today should be a day of celebration and joy!”
The Groom, or rather Ex-Groom, nodded and gave Anna a little smile of his own,”Of course, darling. Yes, today is quite the momentous event, isn’t it?”
“That’s putting it lightly, Mr. Gluskin.”
Anna shuffled through her papers and cleared her throat,”There are a few things I need to go over with you before you can get settled in.”
Eddie sat back in his seat while Anna went over the process of how things would work from here on out. Routine check-ins, house visits, in-home therapy sessions, his various medications and when to take them..the list went on.
Once Anna knew Eddie understood what he needed to do on a daily basis and what to do in case anything happened, she handed him a stack of papers with all of the information on them and took in a deep breath.
“Well, that’s everything, Mr. Gluskin. Do you have any quest-”
Anna was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell suddenly chiming through the house. Both the nurse and Eddie raised an eyebrow, looking at each with a questioning look. Maybe it was someone from the medical team? Had they forgotten something?
Anna stood from the kitchen table and approached the door,”Ah..I’ll see who it is.”
She opened the door to be greeted by you, standing on the porch with a sheepish look on your face. You gave the pretty nurse a nervous little wave and introduced yourself as the next door neighbor.
“Oh! Eddie! It’s your new neighbor! Would you maybe like to meet them?” Anna called back into the kitchen. The tall, muscular man from earlier appeared in the door way, his icy blue eyes peering down at you. A warm smile spread across his scarred face as you nervously introduced yourself to him.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, darling! My name is Eddie. Eddie Gluskin.”
Eddie. Now you had a name to put to the handsome face. Being this close to him, you could see that he was starting to turn a bit salt and pepper, his dark hair streaked with strands of bright white. And he looked like he had been through a lot with the scarring on his face being a bit more intense than you had initially thought.
Eddie extended a hand to you, your eyes darting down to examine the offering before tentatively giving your own hand back in an anxious handshake. His hand absolutely swallowed yours and you suddenly realized the full scope of just how truly massive this man was.
You cleared your throat and shuffled on your feet,”It’s uh..it’s nice to meet you as well..ah..Mr. Gluskin.”
His charming smile grew even wider, almost as if he found your nervousness somewhat cute,”Oh, please, darling. You may call me Eddie. No need for formalities.”
Anna watched this exchange with an almost giddy look on her face. This was Eddie’s first interaction with anybody outside of Hearthside and she was so elated to see how well it was going. She produced a little writing pad and a pen from her pocket to jot down some notes before turning her attention to you and offering a handshake of her own.
“I’m Anna. It’s wonderful to meet you.”
“Oh..uh..are you his wife?”
Anna turned a deep shade of red and giggled,”Oh, no! I’m Mr. Gluskin’s nurse. Full disclaimer: Mr. Gluskin has been in a….recovery program for several years now and he was released today!”
Recovery. You wondered what he had been recovering from but, decided not to pry too much.
“That’s wonderful!” You exclaimed, turning your attention to Eddie and offering the best smile you could muster up,”Well, welcome to the neighborhood, Eddie!”
Something felt like it burst in Eddie’s chest at that moment, a feeling of belonging and a certain kind of joy he thought he’d never feel in the dark confines of his shattered heart. What used to be one of the most feared Variants in Mount Massive Asylum, was being welcomed into this space without fear and it warmed some part of him that had been dormant for a very long time. In Japanese culture there is a method of repairing broken pottery called kintsugi, whereas lacquer mixed with gold or silver is used to repair them and make them even more beautiful. Neither you nor Eddie knew it at that moment but, you would end up becoming the gold that would mend the cracks in the heart of the man formerly known as The Groom.
