So I am currently working on a commission which is probably my first serious design project. I'm really enjoying how it's going. Here, in no particular order, are the prototypes for the sections.

Made This Month
Yeah, May’s edition is late because I spent the end of the month having an awesome time at Profound Decisions’ LARP event, Empire. You should try it, if you haven’t already.
So, this month in crochet:
I finished the star mobile I was making for Alex. I’m really happy with how it turned out and it was a great use of stash odds and ends. They come together really quickly, and are from the second link at the top.
Other patterns sought this month were for crochet flowers for the Flower Festival in my nation at Empire. This year I only made two, because I didn’t have as much time as last year, and they are full of Meaning, but that doesn’t get published here! The pattern was from a bundle from HappyPattyCrochet (first link). Again, quick, easy components and the patterns come with colour photos and full size charts. I really enjoy making flowers with embroidary threads, and might try to make some accessories some time.
The final, weird-looking thing is a bit of a doodle in yarn. There are C-shaped cushions at Playgroup which are really nice for Alex to lie on and not be flat. So I figured I could make one! The flower and pompoms are there to interest him more as he starts grabbing things (which is happening) although if I did it again I’d change the colours on the Flower for more contrast. But I also wanted to get it done while he still needs it, hence not worrying too much about whether or not it looks polished! I also didn’t record the pattern, but I will be doing that with this month’s experiment…

Made This Month
I’m going to start an end of month review, going into a bit more detail than other posts. So, starting from the top:
Mini Mochi Topsy Turvy Cowl
I really enjoyed making this. It was a present from a friend while I was ill. The mini mochi yarn was lovely to work with and so light I made it my cafe project. Three months of cafes, bus journeys and waiting rooms later and it’s done. The different patterns meant I didn’t get bored, which I can with knitting sometimes. My binding off was still too tight, it always is, I need to sort that. Also, oddly for me this has ended up much larger than prescribed! You can get the pattern on Ravelry.
Triangle Shawl From Simply Crochet 39, to practice mesh stitch crochet. I used Drops Muskat, in Heather instead of Petrol. It’s a lovely yarn with a pleasing sheen. The stitch itself is so easy, the work comes together really quickly. Then the pattern asked for beads to finish the corners. So skulls. Obviously. The Wave Blanket Continues This month sees the lesson of do not use kit wool for anything but the kit project. Seriously. Ordered more, it feels a bit like cheating… That Time of Year The nation I role play in at Empire games (run by Profound Decisions) created a festival for showing affection/judging people. I had a go at designing a flower of my own. It looks more modern than I wanted, so I’ve gone to get patterns for the actual gifts. I’m determined to not make too many this year, because unrealistic targets with a baby in the house will not be good for me!
Designing a flower. Came out more modern than I'm going for, but it's alright to make into something for me at some point.
T-9 stripes. I still frikkin' love this project.
Knitted cable headband.
Made using Rico Creative Melange glitz. I love this yarn. It’s really nice to work with and shows up shapes well. This shade is called “pastel”, but I refer to it as “unicorn hair”. The photos probably don’t do the glittery blue threads which occur at points justice. I’m a bit disappointed that there isn’t more pink in this, as I thought there would be, but it’s super snuggly, and I can probably make another one with what’s left.
Made using this gloriously easy pattern: http://lilbit.michelevenlee.com/tag/cable-knit-headband-pattern/
Primary ultimate row
A little bit in love with Empire right now, so I've gone back to the books to refresh my drawing skills. Character: Nicassia of Phoenix Reach
