bnuuy why are you mad evenn!
once lotf fans realize that the show wasn’t an adaptation but a retelling is the day i rest
in my opinion, ralph wasnt sidelined, he got less screen time because he is not the main character of the show; every episode focuses on a different character’s perspective. though i understand where people are coming from with that, i feel as though we just dont really understand the purpose of the show. it’s meant to do something new while retelling the story and making it more entertaining (like how the 90s version had a completely new take and how the 60s version was faithful but not as entertaining by modern standards).
i think some people just want to hate on it because it’s not entirely faithful to the book. there are valid critiques — he blatant mischaracterization of characters like ralph and roger, the lack of cast diversity within main characters (ralph is literally the only poc who isn’t an extra), and strange narrative decisions like a focus on jimon (though i do think it was justified in order to properly characterize simon !! people complain wayyy too much about not seeing / seeing too much of ships when none are canon anyways) — but a lot of the criticisms ive seen are just fans being upset at frivolous changes.
sorray for the long text post. i hesitated to share this opinion cus the whole ralph being sidelined thing is a common sentiment i see, but i disagree a little!
i also acknowledge that race is a factor in this discussion, but in my opinion, ralph has a good amount of screen time. it just feels like he doesn’t have a lot because his perspective is the last episode of the series. i don’t think his lack of screen time is racially motivated in the slightest ;; though i cant speak for the director’s intentions of course
tiny lotf doodles bc i'm currently obsessed w these little shits
