La Boucherie NYC is a classic French brasserie restaurant, run by executive chef Nicholas Matisse ( when he isn't traveling the world for the sake of network television. )

River has a few moral and ethical lines he won't cross. Now, that doesn't mean he's strictly against doing anything illegal because he definitely isn't, but. In a general sense, he always respects people's personal boundaries, he doesn't discriminate against others, he doesn't believe in stealing from non-corporations, he won't inflict unwanted / unnecessary / excessive harm onto people that don't want or deserve it, and he will always protect children.
The other thing is, I think he has set a really hard boundary in his own mind about never discussing the things happening to him inside of that hotel. He's being tortured mentally and physically by some rather harsh entities, he believes he's going crazy ( and really, he is ) but he feels like he can't talk about with anyone out of fear they either won't take him seriously, will think he's extremely mentally disturbed, or worse ... because who knows, maybe bringing it to their attention will mean whatever spirits are lurking about will latch on to them, too. Nobody can know, and therefore, he suffers alone.
He is, unfortunately, tragically, a very private man in a way that is detrimental. But a lot of his other morals are very circumstantial, greyed out, and nuanced, and his sense of right versus wrong has become incredibly distorted alongside his sense of reality. But, all in all, he is someone who tries to be good and just gets caught up in a lot of really, really bad situations where he has to make difficult decisions ... ( and maybe has some pretty weird, self destructive kinks, too, but that's beside the point. )
His pockets are fairly simple. Phone in his back pocket, a couple random pens he’s accidentally stolen from the med students ( 𝖮𝖱 𝖠𝖡𝖡𝖮𝖳 ) shoved into his front pocket, a half empty packet of nicotine gum, and a lighter just in case he decides today is not the day to quit smoking and has to bum an emergency cigarette from one of the nurses. Other things are kept in his backpack that he brings with him to work.
Several credit and debit cards, a wad of cash that she refers to as her emergency drug money, random coins, a lambskin condom, MetroCard, a very old subway token from before the MTA began using the MetroCard, a few random business cards she’s collected, and her state-issued identification card — she doesn’t technically have a driver’s license, though she does know how to drive. Living in New York City, though, she rarely needs to.

Plenty more historical documentaries. It's a lot of hate watching, studying what he missed, and then watching stuff just to see if it's accurate to how he remembers that time period. Or catching up on popular culture.

He is definitely a home safe type of guy. In it, there’s several prescription medications that he keeps tucked away for safety purposes, a few old family mementos and heirlooms that he doesn’t want to get rid of but doesn’t want to look at, either. Abbot’s gun and ammunition is also stored there. Generally, it’s just things that he would rather neither of them have easy access to because of their tendencies.

The part of the brain that regulates hunger and thirst is the same part of the brain that regulates your sex drive and I can definitely find a way to twist this information to relate it to vampires.
So, the hypothalamus is a tiny part of the brain that regulates hunger, thirst, how you digest food, sexual arousal and sex drive, body temperature, sleep-wake cycles, and homeostasis ( which is the stability of your internal body. )
If we consider vampirism to be some sort of infection, impairment, or developmental deviation to that part of the brain, it would make sense that their hunger and thirst for blood differs from the typical food intake of a standard human, and their ability to digest and live off of blood in the first place. It also accounts for their internal body temperature differing due to the lack of heat regulation, their sleep-wake cycles being the exact opposite, and ( according to some folklore and fictionalizations of vampires ) their sex drive being about as insatiable as their bloodlust, which are often inextricably linked to one another in most versions of vampires anyway.
This does not, of course, account for every feature of a vampire's condition, such as their weaknesses and relative immortality, but as we know, certain types of infections and conditions can affect multiple parts of the body and brain, so.
I'm currently reading through a novel that takes written historic accounts of vampirism from several hundred years ago and compares or explains it through the lens of modern forensic pathology. I'll probably update this as I get further into the book!
𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗘: 𝖱𝖨𝖵𝖤𝖱 𝖵𝖤𝖨𝖫𝖬𝖮𝖭𝖳.
| | | [ THE WESTOVER MOTEL ] A STEPHEN KING THEMED BED & BREAKFAST IN HANCOCK, MAINE ( ... )
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗟. It’s a quaint little building tucked away in the port town of Hancock. Nestled between the trees, it boasts a handful of rooms with a small amount of staff lodging on site. It had been abandoned for decades, avoided by locals, citing the occurrence of a terrible, grisly tragedy with the family who built the home originally. That is, until it was acquired by River Veilmont. Utilizing the inheritance left to him by his parents after their deaths, it was meticulously converted into a Stephen King themed bed and breakfast, meant to be an immersive experience for horror fans who wanted to explore haunted coasts of Maine through King’s eyes.
The Westover Motel stands with a total of six rooms decorated to match the themes of the iconic author’s novels and various movie adaptations. Parked outside is Veilmont’s customized 1958 Plymouth Fury, with the exact red and white paint job featured in the movie, Christine. The lobby entrance itself has the iconic hexagonal orange and red carpeting from 1980 adaptation of The Shining, with each room key modeled after the ones seen in Kubrick’s film. Dark wood bookshelves line one wall of the lobby, loaded with copies of King’s works in various translations and editions, as well as copies of the films.
One of the largest rooms was converted into an at-home movie theatre, where Veilmont will screen horror films for guests ( and can often be found there when the building is empty. )
𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝗢𝗡𝗘, 𝗜𝗧. One wall is dedicated to a sprawling, hand painted mural map of the fictional town of Derry, cursive lettering swirled around in the top left corner with an inviting, “DERRY WELCOMES YOU!” ... Several faux framed articles from The Derry Herald adorn the walls, alongside the faces of children plastered on missing posters. The thick baseboards of the room, painted to look like a cement curb, utilize the air vent in the floor to mimic the very sewer drain that Georgie disappeared down, his paper boat perched neatly in a glass case on the wooden dresser next to it. A lone yellow raincoat hangs neatly on the back of the door. Along the opposite wall where the head of the bed sits is another massive mural – the head of Pennywise, mouth stretched wide and teeth bared across the width of the entire wall, fashioned to look like the entrance of a frightening circus ride. The bedding, custom made, mimics the motifs and color palette of the famed clown’s outfit, with fluffy red circular pillows propped neatly on top. There’s matching lamps on both bedside tables shaped like red balloons, and various prop recreations from the films are dispersed throughout the room.
𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗪𝗢, 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚. The back of the door is plain white, crooked red letters that spell out ‘REDRUM’ painted along the middle. The iconic orange and red carpet reappears, sprawled across the entire room. The closet door has a prop axe wedged and sealed in it, and the bathroom is the same pale green as the one pictured in Room 237. Along one wall is a mural of the bird’s eye view of the hedge maze featured prominently in the film, and a desk sits neatly in one corner, with a typewriter sat on top. A single sheet of paper sits in the typewriter, reading ‘ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY.’ Next to it is a box, with stacks of paper that read the very same sentence, typed over and over again, the various formatting seen in the film painstakingly recreated for the purpose of authenticity. Framed black and white photos of Jack Nicholson’s character at the grand balls of the Overlook Hotel line the wall. The windows have been frosted lightly to give the illusion of cold weather and snow. Various decorative props and decor are dispersed throughout the room, with a small crystal chandelier hanging from the center of the ceiling.
𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘, 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗘. A startlingly accurate recreation of Carrie’s prom dress from the 1976 film hangs neatly against the closet door, enclosed in a clear plastic garment bag. The wall the headboard rests against boasts a gigantic mural depicting all-engulfing flames and the silhouette of the titular character in the middle, with a sparkling tinsel ‘SENIOR PROM’ sign hung above the bed. Other walls are adorned with various crosses and religious paraphernalia. The dresser has a time-period accurate record player sitting on top, with a vinyl version of the 1976 movie’s soundtrack propped up on display and a tiara placed in front of it. The bedding itself is a gradient, going from white to a blood soaked red color to mimic her dress towards the end of the film. Various painted versions of stills from the film are framed and hung around the room. The film selections include hard copies of every Carrie adaptation to date.
𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗥, 𝗣𝗘𝗧 𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗬. The room is primarily dark tones, meant to mimic the eerie vibes of the cemetery featured in the film. A wooden sign hangs above the bed with the words ‘PET SEMATARY’ painted on it, and various prop recreations of several of the animals baring their teeth, eyes glowing, placed around the room. The carpet is a plush, dark green, several makeshift headstones painted along the lower parts of the wall. The animal masks worn by the children during funeral processions in the 2019 adaptation hang in a neat line on the wall above the dresser along with a neon sign stating ‘Sometimes Dead Is Better.’
𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝗙𝗜𝗩𝗘, 𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗠’𝗦 𝗟𝗢𝗧. Resting on the back of the door is a black road sign that states, ‘SALEM’S LOT, POP. 2013, EL. 289’. Long, flowing white sheers bracket the windows, long fingers handprints stained against the glass. Propped upright in the corner is a velvet lined coffin with a life sized replica doll of Kurt Barlow as The Vampire resting in it. The eyes, reflective, catch and glow in the light. Spanning across the wall is a dusk blue color with the shadows of creeping trees and the silhouette of two boys trudging through the forest. A large, framed map of the fictional town hangs on the opposite wall, alongside various vintage film posters.
𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝗦𝗜𝗫, 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗬. The Misery room is a perfect recreation of the room that Annie Wilkes trapped and tortured Paul Sheldon in. It contains a single, twin sized bed with the ( easily removable ) leather straps striking a resemblance to the ones used to tie Caan’s character down. From the wallpaper, to the lamps, the bedspread, the furniture, and everything in between — it is a thoughtful replica of the movie set, with every detail included. Sitting on the small table is a Royal typewriter with the ‘N’ key missing, and corrasable bond paper. A rubber sledgehammer sits atop the bedside table. Various painted recreations of stills from the film are interspersed with the canonical paintings Wilkes’ had hanging in the room.
All of the rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, televisions, and the novels and films the room is based around. Additionally, due to its nature as a bed and breakfast, Veilmont lives there, prepares meals for every guest that comes through the doors, and cleans up after them, too. He is the only official employee, due to the lack of reservations. Occasionally his sister comes over to help when it's needed, or when she feels the need to check up on him.
Due to the building's long and tragic history, it's rumored that there are ghosts lurking about ... just don't ask the owner about it. He clams up every time.
𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗘: 𝖵𝖤𝖲𝖯𝖤𝖱𝖠 𝖣𝖹𝖧𝖴𝖱𝖮𝖵𝖠.

𝗕𝗨𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧, 𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗔. Spacious five bedroom house near Str. Jean Louis Calderon in București, located in the heart of city's historic district. Well maintained, and well decorated with traditional Romanian pieces.
𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗦, 𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗔. Built in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans in 1889, this Toulouse Street home boasts eight bedrooms, multiple parlors, a massive library, and a vibrant color palette, complete with antique furniture.
𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗠, 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗦. This seven bedroom home is one of the oldest residences in Salem, having been built in 1667. It has three floors, multiple fireplaces, and a muted color palette to fit the dark scenery of the town.
𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗔 𝗭𝗔𝗚𝗢𝗥𝗔, 𝗕𝗨𝗟𝗚𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗔. This four story mansion, built in 1754, has been renovated but has maintained a lot of the original architectural marvels. It contains four bedrooms, two sitting rooms complete with fireplaces, and a massive library.
𝗭𝗔𝗣𝗢𝗣𝗔𝗡, 𝗠𝗘𝗫𝗜𝗖𝗢. This gorgeous rust colored hacienda tucked away in Jalisco is complete with the fountains in the central courtyard, iron bound wooden doors, multiple kitchens, and over ten bedrooms. The architectural style integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, making it Vespera's largest home, but also one of the most secluded.
