“I never said it bothered me.” Sometimes it was a bit relaxing in a way, even if the feelings coming from the other weren’t pleasant all the time. “Besides, you can only do that for so long. You know it’s better to talk about these things.”

“Hey, I’m not complaining. I’m just glad I gave you 10 year’s worth of a chance to help you get that royal stick out of your ass,” he joked again. And from that deal he got a life-long friend– definitely worth the effort, Tibarn thought.
He continued on more seriously, his smirk disappearing to return to a more serious complexion. “Besides, I’d be nowhere as good at listening to the Ancient Speech without you. Can you imagine what a bad leader I’d be? Not even able to listen to the wolves without a translator.” Well, he still would need a translator for them to understand Tibarn, but that was besides the point– that was their problem. “Seriously, I don’t say it enough. You’re a good friend, Reyson. I’m glad to’ve had you by my side, all of these years.”
A quiet snort left him this time, entertained by the other’s choice of words. He wasn’t wrong, in any case. “At least had it come to you needing a translator, me or Rafiel could have helped.” He would have included Leanne, but she was still getting the hang of speaking the modern language. Given how long it’d taken him, she was doing well. Hearing the last statement, his blinked a little. “I can say the same for you. If you hadn’t come to mine and my father’s rescue we never would have survived. And who knows if Leanne ever would’ve been found. I owe you a lot. The least I can do is be a good friend.”

“Sure do. It’s nice to know what a Heron’s thinking every now and then, and you don’t always get that from your siblings,” he replied, an image of Rafiel and Leanne coming to mind as he spoke. “I remember when we first took you in,” he boasts fondly, “Barely dared to touch you, with how fragile as you looked.”
Tibarn’s gaze traveled up and down Reyson’s body, comparing the Reyson that stood before him and the Reyson of his memories. “You’ve really grown a lot, since then. Well, mentally– not in your brittleness,” he joked at Reyson’s expense, aiming a gentle punch at the Heron’s shoulder. “That’s still the same as ever.”
“I’m sure it is.” And he could be very opinionated given the situation. Letting the King go on, a soft huff left him. “Yes well I could hardly speak anything other than the ancient tongue as well. Now look at me.” That and he hardly ever wanted to leave Tibarn’s side since he was one of the only ones who could understand him when he spoke. Still, remembering how he used to be compared to now, it certainly was one of the biggest changes about him. Yet it was rare he regretted such a change.
"Y'know, you've picked up so many of our traits that I forget you're a heron at times." he smirks smugly, having watched Reyson deal with the belligerent Beorc. "Too much time spent with the hawks, I'm thinking."
Hearing the other, the Heron gave a glance over, before a soft, but amused noise left him. “I would say ‘so do I’, but that would be a lie. Still, I rather prefer it this way, don’t you?” Maybe not when he was getting ahead of himself, but in any case him not being afraid to break something here or there had to come in handy at some point.

“How are you feeling, by the way? None of the fights have made you ill, have they?”
“Oh certainly, in fact, if she declines for any reason other than her work, I’d be concerned.” A smile came to his face, shaking his head at the concern. “I’ve only been watching the ones that interested me, so I’m quite alright. I appreciate the concern though.”

“I give her credit for fighting outside her class. Obviously, she was outmatched, no matter which Laguz she’d fight.”
“Even without the favor, I’m glad to have it. I certainly hope you don’t want it back. Oh– and think you’ll let me ask your sister to the dance, if I win? After all, a champion deserves a reward.”
“This is true, but you certainly didn’t pull any punches. Not that I blame you, especially after that insult. And of course not, we made that for you, of course you can keep it.” Hearing the question about Leanne, Reyson couldn’t help, but chuckle. “If you can pull her away from working, then you have my blessing. She needs a break, that’s be the perfect excuse.”
He may or may not be dying of laughter at the moment, that was likely one of the funniest things he’s seen. Beorc who got worked up over ‘cheating’ with the Bird clans and flying were always amusing.
“Well, you certainly would have won that one without a favour at least.”

Naesala inspected the bracelet and had to try very hard to keep an impassive expression. Not only did they give him bobbles, which most corvids were inherently fond of, but it was meaningful and… of course… from Leanne as well.
“She’s been entrenching herself with plans for Serenes, I know. Plotting out the new capital city isn’t easy on either of you.”
“I’ll use this well, Reyson. Give you both something to be proud of.”
There’s a knowing smile on his lips, he could tell the other liked the favour even if he wasn’t showing it. “Oh yes, but at least it’s all been going smoothly so far.” Chuckling, he gave a nod. “Oh I know you will, I never doubted that. Even if you don’t make it to the final round you’ll still have given it your all, that’s all that matters in the end, yes?”

“Aw, c’mon Reyson, don’t you at least want me to beat this beorc I have to fight? You know you want to wish me good luck.”
A laugh left the Heron. “Alright, alright, you got me.” Reaching into his pocket, a bracelet was pulled out and offered. “Leanne was too busy with other things, but she and I put this together for you.” A closer inspection of the jewelry would reveal small charms shaped like Ravens and Herons in a pattern, with simple black beads between each one.
“Is anyone going to give me a favor~?”
“Even raven kings need a bit of good luck.”
“I was thinking on it, but if you’re asking so casually maybe I shouldn’t,” there was a teasing tone to his voice, of course he’d give his friend one if his sister wasn’t around to do so.
"Happy birthday, Reyson! Um, I tried to make something for you." She handed him a wrapped box. Inside was a hand sewn hawk doll that she had given her absolute best in crafting. It even had a red scarf tied around it's head. "I hope you like it!"
Hearing the Cleric, a smile came to his face. “Oh, thank you Mist. You know you didn’t have to.” Still, not wanting to be rude he took the gift she held out to him. Opening it up, he couldn’t help the chuckle that left him once he saw what it was. Picking the doll up, he looked it over a moment before another smile came to his face. “This is cute, I do like it. Thank you again.”
[songofserenes] The room exploded into an eager chorus of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, REYSON!" when the prince entered the drawing room. All of his siblings, from the oldest to the youngest, were piled in one place bedecked in daffodil flower crowns. The most elaborate one had, of course, been made for him, which Lillia put on his head with a grin. "Happy birthday, little brother!" Meanwhile his brothers started bringing him the piles of gifts that had been prepared. "I hope you're ready to celebrate!"
After all these years, you would think he’d be used to this happening. And yet here he was, jumping at the sounds of his brothers and sisters. A laugh soon left him though, the surprised expression turning to a happy one as he got a better look at them all.
Seeing his older sister approach with the flower crown, he stayed put while she placed it on his head, chuckling some. “Thank you, Lillia.” Watching as the gifts were brought over to him, he couldn’t help but tease. “Well if I wasn’t before, I am now.” He doubted they’d let him wave anything off, so he was glad he hadn’t made any plans for today. Though, maybe they helped keep the day clear. The Prince was fairly bad at remembering his birthday, but of course he remembered everyone else’s.
"Happy birthday," Naesala said, tossing a small gift to the heron. It was a carved wooden box, inside a pair of good climbing gloves. Something that, when the two of them were young, Reyson always said he wanted. Because herons weren't supposed to climb, but Reyson wanted to anyway. Defiant as he was. "Thought I'd finally make good on that for you."
Blinking when he heard the Raven, he caught the box as it was tossed to him. Running his fingers over it a moment, after he was done looking it over he opened it up. Seeing the gloves, an amused smile came to his lips. Of course he remembered the time he mentioned wanting them, but he was surprised Naesala remembered. “Thank you, they’re perfect.”

If Reyson actually starts showing Tibarn that he’s pissed (ie really yelling at him or even trying to punch him), Tibarn will be surprised, but will back off. He’ll realize he’s pushed too far.
((Oh yeah he’ll definitely start yelling but that depends on Tibarn.))
