Knuckles stares at their hands, drifting in thought before he realizes she asked a question.
“ Uh– There are SOME similarities. But Earth lacks the magical power that thrives on my Home planet. Perhaps that’s why Echidnas here are— ” Knuckles pauses…
“ ..There are Echidnas here on Earth? ”
“Oh, yes! I saw them at the zoo—” ‘the zoo’, delivered with some awkwardness, as if the word had momentarily escaped her, “—with my friends last summer. But as I said, they were… much, much smaller than you and were not able to speak. I am not sure they are truly the same species at all.”
These differences were important to distinguish, she realized. What kind of person would she be if she accidentally let Knuckles get his hopes up? A cruel one, that is what.
“Would you like to see? The zoo is most educational!”
