spectacular version. Tennant and Tate are on fire. Their comedic and dramatic chops are outstanding. They both should have gotten Tonys for this production. Tennant has always had the gift of making Shakespeare sound spontaneous and contemporary, but Tate more than holds her own with him.

Hi! Welcome to my pre-finale authors note.

I know I could've dropped the finale today but personally I think that it would be weird for SOHAE to end on a Wednesday, yknow?

Anyways, with the finale on the horizon I just wanted to thank everyone who has been reading SOHAE at every level of investment. I've been so caught up in my professional comic work that I forgot how to just have fun with art and so SOHAE was such a breath of fresh air for me.

This next part is mostly business.

The SOHAE book is coming! I've sent the first copies ever to the printers and I'm so excited. I think I'll have preorders opening for a month some time in October. I'd love to start it sooner but I'm in the middle of a huge move so it's just not viable.

Here's what's gonna be available during the preorders:

First and mainly, obviously, the Strung Out Heart, Angel Eyes physical book featuring this new cover design!

This short comic that takes place a few years before SOHAE starts which won't be uploaded to tumblr so the only way to read it is to buy it

SOHAE and SOHAE 0.5 will both be available as ebook files (pdf and epub) as well.

As mentioned previously, there is a sequel in the works but I absolutely cannot promise anything. As much as I hate taking breaks, I definitely need one while I work on my regular life and on SOHAE2. But I have so many ideas so this is definitely not goodbye.

Anyways, I can’t even begin to tell you how incredibly emotional I am about all of this and I am so happy to see how many people have stuck around for this journey and how many friends and acquaintances I’ve made. I’ve loved this little community of ours and I hope that you will stick with me as I work on my future endeavors with SOHAE or otherwise.

wait i just saw a tag on one of your posts that said “annabeth was odysseus in pjo” - i was just wondering if you could explain/expand on those parallels. if not, that’s okay! hope you’re having a good day!

well, every pjo book focuses around percy completely subverting a different mythological hero’s journey, while annabeth (+ thalia + luke) play into the role of like more classic greek heroes

part of that is annabeth’s explicit admiration of odysseus, who’s like basically the most iconic greek hero ever and it comes up a lot in som, so there’s a lot of parallels, some surface level and some thematic:

annabeth is a daughter of athena, odysseus was favored by athena, and they have to prove themselves to her with their strategy + wit

desire to hear the siren song, and annabeth uses his same trick with the wax and tying herself to the mast (though she fails when he succeeded so that could mean something)

literally think annabeth uses odysseus’ “nobody” trick with polyphemus, plus her general hatred of cyclopes

annabeth was initially seduced + favored by circe, but ultimately outsmarted her, like odysseus

annabeth and odysseus both are the main war strategists in tlo and the trojan war

annabeth’s fatal flaw is hubris, and odysseus is like the poster-boy of hubris

odysseus is driven by a need to get home to his family, and annabeth is literally almost completely driven by her desire to "get back to” a family that doesn’t really exist anymore

Listen. I hope the TV show has like… the tiniest subplot of Sally Jackson. I think Percy might be the ~tiniest~ bit of an unreliable narrator about her in the best way possible. He thinks she’s the sweetest most angelic person in the world (and she is) but I also have this ongoing belief that Sally kicks ass when her son isn’t looking. i.e.

Percy’s voiceover: I had never heard my mom say an unkind word to anyone or even raise her voice <3

*flashback to baby Percy sleeping and Sally is beating a robber with a frying pan*

Percy’s voiceover: You see, my mom always does the right thing. She just isn’t a violent person <3

*flashback to when Percy is 3 and Sally is shooting a monster out her car window as she drives away with Percy looking a picture book upside down, jamming to the music turned up all the way*

Percy’s voiceover: She’s never even yelled <3

*flashback to Sally sweetly asking Percy to wait in the car before screaming at a school principal for expelling her son of some wild bullshit that wasn’t his fault*

Percy’s voiceover: I bet that’s why my dad fell in love with her. Because she’s the nicest <3

*flashback to Sally flicking off the sea*

Sally: Pay child support, you coward.

I just FULLY believe that Sally is 100% the kindest, most patient, sweetest person when it comes to people who have good vibes (and perhaps even to the worst person up to a certain point) but she is also an absolute NIGHTMARE to those who fuck around and find out.
