passing in public makes me feel like white shrek
literally how it feels
Sometimes I think about the girl in my college gen chem class who believed all liquids were just particles suspended in water. I just find it very Greek philosopher. Like not only is water a universal solvent, but in fact THE ONLY LIQUID. It kind of charms me as a world view
perhaps not an original observation but it feels like the reason infinite jest is such a mean spirited, myopic book thats unpleasant to read despite how good dfw is at writing on a technical level is this theme he keeps returning to of (what he calls) psychic pain locking you inside yourself. the most emotionally affecting, readable segments of the book concern its addicts and mentally ill characters, and anything outside of their suffering is treated with a kind of mocking jeer, thats too detached to even work as intended. like there is this genuinely very great bit where he characterizes clinical depression as psychic pain so awful it removes your ability to emphatize, like to even identify with people who are also depressed, and then the rest of the book kind of demonstrates that. its a great example of how there is a great book lost inside of infinite jest but its impossible to get out
my copy is foreworded by michelle zauner, and she talks about how shes always thought ij was the realm of like, boys and male loneliness and how reading it was suprising for her because of how enjoyable it is. and like on one hand i get it bc dfw writes about addiction, depression and loneliness with this like incredibly visual understanding so if youve experienced it it really is like describing your exact thoughts. and i think its very comforting as a suicidal person to be told, unequivocally that you are right. im not suprised he killed himself. and its also about maleness in a way thats incredibly insecure, that i feel its very easy to relate to as someone who has to struggle to appear as a man to people who wont think of me like that until im a couple years on T if im being realistic. and thats a pretty unreachable goal for me atm. and i also think probably if the reader is someone who is currently supposed to be a man but struggles because she isnt really, the way this book deals with masculinity is probably also relatable and confirms your biases just like it does for suicidal people. so its appeal is very understandable on that front. like for how transphobic it is i see the lines of thinking me and people i know have fallen into when it gets really bad. i actually forgot what point i was goimg to make. gestures. you understand
Every day on this site I discover new forms of art that I never knew existed
this literally just reminded me to take my meds
Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this
Hell yeah moon holiday
Ooh coming up we should celebrate
PITCH: We call it Moon Day, and then every 7 years when it falls on a Monday, that's an even BIGGER deal and we call that Moon Day Monday and go absolutely apeshit about it (the next Moon Day Monday is in 2026 so we have a couple trial runs first)
MOON DAY MOON DAY MOON DAY
moon day is 20th July!!!
Scheduling this a day earlier to remind you all and myself about the Moon Day tomorow!
Happy moon day to all who celebrate
This is your reminder to prep for Moon Day on July 20th.

If you don’t let go of your prejudices and past grudges, your heart won’t blossom. 2013 is coming, let’s make a change. We only have one planet so let’s show each other some kindness.

(goverment voice) we need to protect the children from pornography so our plan is to remove their eyes so they would never see something so traumatic. if you are against removing children's eyes you are basically a pedophile
"I learned a lot from making this" is artist talk for "making this sucked ass and I'm not entirely happy with the result."
