Holiday with The Lightgems

Voltage had just managed to get the door to their home closed when the high pitched giggle and thudding steps alerted him to brace as the tiny toddler launched onto his chest and clung to his shoulders. Harmony buried her face in his chilled white chest fur while he looked over to his blue husband who had nothing but an amused smirk on his face. “How is it out there?” Sonic took the child from the hybrid’s chest and settled her on his hip while Voltage leaned forward to give a soft if slightly cold kiss to the hedgehog’s lips before answering, smirking at the shiver the contact had caused. “It’s cold enough that I’m shivering and I’m a walking furnace, but I got the decorations for the tree.” Harmony’s tail wagged heavily against Sonic’s hip before she was set down to run over to the tree and hop impatiently. Both males got a chuckle as Voltage set down the bags and the young girl dove in to pull out the tinsel, mostly tangled around her however. The hedgefox looked at the two by the tree before standing and gesturing to the kitchen. “You two have fun. I’m gonna go help mommy in the kitchen.” The stereo of “okay” from the pair working on getting the decorations together was all he needed before he went to the kitchen, a smile spreading across his muzzle at the sight of his wife, a purple wolf happily mixing together a bowl while humming something. Mimi enjoyed their retired hero status and had fallen into a very relaxed state in their home. Her humming turned to a yelp as Voltage snuck up behind her to place his cold finger pads against her sides after moving her sweater. Laughter bubbling up from the hybrid as she fixed him with a wrinkled nose and swatted him playfully on the nose. “Voltage!” He gave her cheek a kiss in apology before taking the mixing bowl from her hands and began to stir the mixture. Mimi shook her head and got the baking sheet ready, completely used to him just jumping in to help her while Harmony and Sonic spent quality time together. If anything it was welcome as the family went about preparing for the holidays that would most likely have the home filled with their family and friends in the next coming days.

Used a lot of energy to do it too.” Voltage knew that his lovers had seen him pull similar stunts when they were building the house so he didn’t have to climb on ladders, but he knew how to control his levels so it wouldn’t look like anything out of the ordinary. A two year old who didn’t even know what she held within, that was a completely different story and now they would have to be on guard. With a heavy sigh, he moved from where he was standing to pull Mimi in for a hug, trying to ease her fear as he spoke the next words carefully. “I can teach her how to handle it and we’ll get Tails to see if he can make her a set of inhibitors. It’ll be okay.”

She wrapped her arms around him when she was pulled in, ears folded back in worry, “Y…yeah but…” she murmured, “Wh…what if she hurts herself?” her first thought was about how, well, CHAOTIC chaos energy was. It was very dangerous, even she knew that, without having access to it. “Do you think GUN noticed…? S-should we try and find somewhere to hide out until we can get a hold of Tails?”

Sonic put a hand to his chin as he thought on the subject. “I can go do a perimeter check, see if anyone’s coming.” he suggested, “Maybe since it was so brief they couldn’t pinpoint it, even if they were paying attention to the monitors.”

Holding her tightly while she spoke, just being able to hear the fear in her words was enough for him to try to comfort her as he ran his fingers against her hair. Now wasn’t a time that they should be panicking and he wasn’t about to have the family abandon everything on the off chance the military was paying attention. Lifting his gaze to lock with his blue lover, nodding softly to the idea of the check. Wanting to ease both of their fears about what had happened and could possibly continue to happen until they could work on a solution. Voltage looked back down to their wife and spoke with as much knowledge as he could on the subject. “We’re not going anywhere. Chaos is fueled by emotion, reacting to our feelings. As long as we can keep her calm, there shouldn’t be a problem for now. If we stress her by running, it would just make matters worse. Blue and I will check the area, but it would be a bit for GUN to get forces together anyway, if they were even paying attention.” Placing a kiss gently to her forehead, hoping that he’d been able to help some of the fears to dissipate. One thing was sure, whatever happens would be faced together as a family.

Sonic nodded as well, walking next to Mimi and giving her a kiss as well, hugging the two. "Its gonna be okay. Promise~" he assured, before heading out the door and running off to check things out.

Mimi nodded, resting her head on Voltage's shoulder, "I guess you know best when it comes to chaos control..." she sighed, "I just can't help but worry...is she handling it okay?"

Taking a deep breath after they had moved out of the room with their sleeping toddler, Volt nodded in answer to both of their questions, looking to Sonic before shifting his gaze to Mimi and softening his features. He closed his eyes for a moment as he agreed that it would be easier to just cut to the chase. “Harmony used Chaos Control.” Knowing that those words alone were things that he never wanted to have to say because it meant that the area would have shown a spike in Chaos Activity. All three of them knew what it meant as Voltage could feel the dread creeping in the back of his mind knowing that the military faction was still trying to find them and would always be looking for fluctuations in Chaos Energy.

Mimi’s ears immediately perked, her face turning to an expression of both shock and fear, immediatley thinking the same as Volt; it’d be easy to be found if they were paying attention to their monitors.

“W-wh...” she stammered, running a hand through her own hair, “H-what exactly did she do?”

After Harmony was settled in, the small stuffed werehog plush tucked tightly in her grip as her little mouth let out soft purrs in her sleep, she would hopefully have herself some peaceful dreams as Volt covered her with the blanket. Turning to greet Mimi as she come into view, do his best to keep his poker face, even if his tail easily gave away the apprehension of telling her the situation. “We should move this into another room..” Looking to Sonic for a moment before moving and taking their wife’s hand, leading her out of the room slowly. Glancing to make sure the speedster was behind them and thinking over his words carefully as he knew this was going to be a sensitive subject, one that required the right words.

Mimi tilted her head in confusion, before following him out. Sonic tailed behind, closing the door behind them, leaning against it so he could hear and know if Harmony was moving around.

“What’s going on...?” Mimi asked, “Is..everything okay?”

Sonic’s ears guiltily folded a bit, looking over at Volt. “Should we just...cut to it, or...?”

Entering in the house and kicking off his sneakers against the wall by the door before walking over to the small playpen that was in the living room and pulling the blanket back so Sonic could set her down to sleep off her little energy surge. A soft smile forming on his face as he looked at the young hybrid softly snoozing against her father’s chest, little claws clinging to the blue fur. “She’ll probably sleep for a few hours after that.” He turned his attention to trying to figure out where Mimi was, tilting his ears this way and that to listen to the sounds of the house. Trying to keep his voice as low as he could even thought Harmony was a heavy sleeper. There could be a battle going on and she wouldn’t budge once she was out. It made getting her up in the mornings interesting.

Sonic nodded, looking down at their little girl, smiling a little at how peaceful she looked like that.

Hearing the two moving around, Mimi came around the corner to greet them, having been in the other room reading.

“Aw, what’s got her all tuckered out?” she asked quietly, noticing the sleeping child.

Sonic wasn’t the only one thinking of how Harmony’s mother was going to take this news, if she hadn’t seen it from the house. The child had managed to warp herself pretty high into the air, but they would find out when they got there. Letting a smile form on his face at the contact with his lover, glancing down at their daughter who was looking like she was about to doze off. He knew how much energy it took to use that ability on purpose and accidentally, not at all surprised that she was probably drained by it. “Guess this means I’ll be calling Tails tomorrow anyway.. she’ll need her own set of these.” Holding up the hand that was holding the supplies and letting the silver inhibitor shine in the sunlight against his black fingerless gloves. Continuing to keep pace with Sonic as the house came into view, a quaint little ranch style that served its purpose of keeping the family of four comfortable and close. Out of the way from any people so they wouldn’t have to worry about running with anyone but family and friends who knew where they lived.

Sonic nodded, “Yeah, guess you’re right. Better to be safe, right?”

With that, they were at the door. Sonic let go of Voltage’s hand to open it, stepping inside and holding the door with his leg so Voltage could get inside as well. Once both in, he closed the door and slid his sneakers off in the entrance hallway, where they normally kept them. Since Harmony was practically asleep at this point, he was careful to remove her very tiny shoes without waking her too much.

If the older hybrid was honest, he wasn’t sure how their wife was going to take it either, but there was no use in hiding the fact. Holding her tightly to his chest, Volt pushed off the ground with his one hand and stood up, still tightly holding the bag from the hardware store under his arm. Voltage held out his hand, bracing himself so that Sonic could get up and they could make their way into the house. Harmony shifting in his grip to make grabby hands to her daddy. Fluffy was all well and good, when it wasn’t soaked. With a soft smile, he shifted her so she could be held by the speedster. Her tiny voice speaking up only after she was settled against her other father. “I do bad thing?”

Sonic gladly took the tiny mobian, holding her close once he was stood upright. The question made him give her a reassuring smile.

“No, baby, you didn’t do a bad thing. It just means you’re more…talented than we thought you were gonna be.” he explained, giving her a kiss on her forehead.

Snuggling as close as she could get, a soft purr at the kiss to her forehead before she buried her face against Sonic’s chest. Harmony was still scared at what had happened, but as long as her parents were there, she knew she’d be safe. “Okay.” Voltage knew she was in for an interesting few years, stepping back to interlace his fingers with his lover’s free hand before starting to walk back to the house. Promising himself silently to teach her, show her that her powers weren’t meant to be feared and how to control them.

Sonic gladly accepted the hand, using his thumb to stroke it gently as they walked along. He nuzzled his cheek to the top of Harmony's head, glad to see she was beginning to calm down.

Was he worried about her possibly hurting herself with her powers? Absolutley.

But was he going to do everything he could to keep her safe? He would bet his life on it.

Mostly though, at the moment, he was worried about how Mimi was going to take the news.

Listening to the pair trying to soothe her fear soon had the hiccups slowing as a headache took over. Her cheeks were red as her puffy teal eyes turned to the green of her daddy, nodding before pressing her forehead into Volt’s chest and grabbed the hedgehog’s fingers. Placing it back on her head to try to show what was bothering her. “Hurts.” Voltage continued to stroke her quills on her head, making sure she was comfortable as he looked back and forth between the pair. Leaning himself into his lover’s touch as the tension seemed to alleviate as she calmed down. The one thought coming to mind as he looked to Sonic, giving a soft sigh before the words left his mouth. “What are we going to tell Mimi?”

“The truth.” Sonic shrugged, “Dunno how she’s gonna take it, though.” he sighed, “Come on, let’s go in, get the lil one something to help with that headache.” he suggested, kind of stuck on the bottom, so he would have to wait for Voltage to move first.

When Sonic shifted himself to move, Volt moved himself so that only his legs were still draped over the other so he could move. The young hybrid rubbing her face into his chest as the sounds of her sobs and hiccups filled the air, his heart clenching tightly as he listened to his lover. Now was the time to keep her calm, to try to get her to stop tensing before she made herself sick. “It’s okay Harmony. We have you.” But Harmony had no idea what was going on, she knew that one moment she was racing and the next she was in the air and falling. There had been such a weird feeling before it happened, she couldn’t describe what she felt, but at 2.. who could? Her crying only dying down as Sonic spoke, the hiccups continuing as she felt his hand on her head.

“You’re gonna be okay.” Sonic continued to try to soothe her, the sound of her crying breaking his heart, “I promise, we’re not going to let anything happen to you, sweetheart.” He wrapped an arm around Voltage to pull the two both close into a hug, using a gloved finger to try to dry the child’s tears.

Secure in his lover’s arms, he looked down at Harmony, her entire body shaking as she clung tightly to his chest. Running a hand through her quills while she let out a wail and tears began to run down her cheeks. Voltage looked at Sonic, his expression one of almost sadness as he nodded. “Yeah.. it was.” No other words came from his mouth, the young hybrid had used Chaos Control without knowing. He knew that the energy responded to emotions and she might have been thinking of putting distance between her and Sonic. Continuing to hold their pride and joy, watching her carefully as she cried in terror against his chest, not able to understand what had happened herself.

“Hey, heyyyy,” Sonic cooed in a comforting voice, shifting under Voltage a bit so he could be a bit more upright and closer to Harmony, stroking gently behind her ear, “Hey, it’s okay, don’t cry, sweetie.” he wore a sympathetic smile to try and help somewhat, “You’re okay, it’s okay~”

After all, no sense in worrying her. She didn’t need to be scared of her own abilities, she just would definately need to learn how to control them.

Voltage laughed as the little indigo mix took off down the path as fast as her tiny feet could carry her, it was a wonder that she was able to keep shoes. At some point they would have to talk to Tails about making a pair of sneakers like Sonic’s for her to wear, but that would need to wait until she stopped growing a little. Watching his lover keep pace but letting her gain the upper hand was just as amusing as he picked up his own pace to get back to the house. His amusement quickly turned to dread as he felt the spike in Chaos Energy before he heard her scream in fright followed by the bright blue flash of light, his instincts taking over as he focused on the point and warped as close as he could. Catching her from the air where she had accidentally warped herself. The rate of speed and the height was definitely going to hurt as he turned himself to take the brunt of it.

Sonic’s eyes widened, barley having time to process what just happened. He sped up, sliding in to catch the two. The weight was enough to make him let out an “OOF!”, but he was relativley fine.

“What was that?” he asked, blinking at his lover, “Did...Harmony just...?” he trailed off.

The audible purr coming from the child nuzzling against her father’s chest was something Volt would give anything to always be able to hear. Wanting to make sure she always had a reason to be happy. Nodding to his lover and leaning close to share a quick but loving kiss, the hybrid shrugged after and started making his way to the house. “Uh huh. I’ll keep the kit’s number handy.” Turning his head to stick his tongue playfully out at Sonic before taking the path back to the house and making sure that the pair were behind him. The little hybrid bouncing up and down on the hedgehog’s hip, her tail pelting his leg as she pointed down. Harmony wanted to run, ever since they found out about her speed, she never stopped moving.

“Ah, down?” Sonic asked, noticing the gesture. He stopped, gently setting her on the ground. A competitive smirk came to his face. “Wanna race?” he asked.

The moment her feet touched the ground, she was bouncing in place, head nodding furiously at the challenge. Giggling while she hopped from foot to foot, something she picked up from Sonic, her tail wagged fast enough that her entire backend went with. Voltage could only watch as the pair got ready for the race, making sure to move slightly out of the path so they’d have room. “Yeh!!” The older hybrid found it funny just how much she was like both of his lovers. Being almost a perfect mix of the two, the indigo little mix was the light of his life. Just like with Mimi and Blue, he’d give anything to make sure she was safe. So from the side of the path, he called out to the pair that had been behind him. “Ready….. GO!”

Normally, Sonic would've torn off with everything he had. But this wasn't a normal scenario, this was a race with his pride and joy. Make no mistake, he did have to use more speed than a normal Mobian, but he wanted to keep it close.

“Yeh!!” Harmony’s hands grabbed each side of the hedgehog’s muzzle as she kissed his nose followed by her giggling, expecting a similar response to what Volt had done. The older hybrid just smirking and letting a small snort leave his nose as he shook his head. In such a short amount of time, she had become the trios entire world. And was quickly becoming spoiled by their friends and old teammates. She really was a princess in their eyes, not that Volt didn’t consider Mimi their queen. “Are you planning to try to fix the sink tonight? Or shall I text Tails in the morning?”

Sonic kisses the precious little girl back, before pulling her into his chest for a tight hug. At the question, he looked over at Voltage.

“Nah, I’m gonna try to fix it tonight. It’s just a sink, I think I can handle it.” he laughed.

Squirming in his grip, her tiny hands reaching for her father as she continued to giggle. The young hybrid closed her eyes and grinned as wide as her mouth was able as he tail continued to wag as quick as it could. Voltage couldn’t contain his laughter as he kicked off from the ground to stand back up, making sure to clean himself off again before he moved over to the pair. Reaching over to take the brown package that Sonic had been holding to make it so his lover could hold on better to the squirming 2 year old. “I think daddy needs a kiss too.”

“Whaddya say, princess?” Sonic asked, moving her closer to his face, “Can daddy have a kiss?”
