”You think this is a punishment to me? It is you, you -fools-, who cling – desperately – to the notion that your “Gods” are the true judicators of all things! I saw beyond that falsified veil and saw IT; the ENTITY that stands above all gods; all demons; all mortals. Unassailable, unpronounceable, unimaginable yet the only THING that allows us to live or die – IT paints the stars alive and winks them out at ITS desire; all there is, all there was, all there ever will be is because IT decides so. And we are powerless to resist if IT one day decides that we will BE NOT.”
- Godless Un'Sarrac the Mad, speaking to an astral traveller at the Wall of the Faithless, circa 1470 DR
“In our campaign, “When Ravens Descend”, the original intention was for me to go through all of our player characters and ultimately draw our game-master;
This was a tough and wonderfully challenging drawing from earliest conception to finish; first and foremost, I struggled a bit to decide on how best to represent him; most of the time, game masters are depicted “as is”, wearing perhaps a robe and looking smugly superior with their books and dice out on the table. I felt that this “wasn't enough”, and had to go through a few sketches where I tried to paint him as this mysterious traveller one might meet on the road, leaving with you a sensation that he knew much more than he let on.
Then, I decided: “To hell with it. Lets go full Marvel on this bad boi”
One of the most important “design decisions” (read: One of things that made me go: “Owr, that'd be totally cool!) was of course the cloak, stolen brazenly from the comic book version of Magneto. Once we had hit that ridiculous note on design language, everything else just came together in this volatile mess you see before you.
Also, if there's one colour I always had a problem working with, it's blue – also, if there's one setting of light I've always had problems with, it's night-time. I've heard some clever people say that you only learn when you're constantly feeling uncomfortable with the process, so I bloody well hope I've learned something during this process, because good grief! The #ArtistStruggle was real!
Anyways, enough rambling:
Here you go, you awesome game-master bastard you; thanks for the inspiration and the insanely hard work you pour into our campaign each and every session. It's been a helluva' crazy awesome year, and I can't wait to see how the next comes together!”
