He thought he could slip by unnoticed. By the time he disappeared, the night had dissolved into a drunken whirlwind – Margo and Eliot marching into a fragile chaos that always threatened to teeter into despair. The whole summer has stretched on like this. In theory, the three of them were unwanted school kids left behind on an empty campus. But at times, it seemed that his friends orbited a different sun. They held themselves like rulers of their own private kingdom: Landon was merely a visitor. 

Then again - ever since Malivore, Landon hasn’t felt settled in his own body. He watches his life unfold from a distance, like a movie he’s walked in on too late. Relief only comes to him in small bursts, memories slipping through his fingers. At the bottom of the lake, Landon calls out a name he won’t remember when he resurfaces. Water fills his lungs. 

He’s used to waking with a jolt, instinct guiding him back to the dock before his body remembers that it can’t swim. This time, he’s tugged violently to shore by his foot before he’s fully come to. Landon barely registers the shrieking before he makes out the words. Heavy eyelids crack open, senses still reeling. After he stares at the figure before him for too long, he slowly puts the pieces together. Margo’s frame whirls in to focus, soaked wet and shivering in the cool of the summer night. And angry, snarling, wounded as she scolds him. Eliot wobbles a safe distance behind her, eyes glazed over and fixed on the flames still crackling above the water. 

Pretty, he murmurs in delight. 

When Margo falls asleep that night – well after she’s dried off and near lost her voice reprimanding him – she falls asleep with her hands in both of the boys’ hair. Landon is crushed between them with no means of escape; somehow the faint scent of perfume and the gentle rise and fall of El’s chest against his side don’t make him feel trapped. Margo’s face is burrowed against Landon’s, wetness gracing her cheeks. Tears or saltwater – he doesn’t quite know which. 

“What’s dying like?” 

The question startles him, breaking the gentle silence they’d settled into. He hadn’t realized El was still awake. Margo still sleeps soundly, her steady breaths warming his skin. Landon strains to look over at him with a careful expression. The day they’d first met, they recognized a quiet but insurmountable darkness within each other. Eliot’s suffering ran deeper than his own. Landon thinks back to the first time he’d witnessed Eliot’s guilt. His grief. 

The question scares him. 

“It’s not the peace anyone thinks it is,” Landon murmurs into the dark, fingers grasping to slip through Eliot’s. His eyes close, and he’s filled with the same emptiness that envelopes him with every resurrection. Tries to conjure an image that never comes to him. Landon’s constant longing lends way to agony. Part of him wonders if this is punishment for slaying Malivore: living past an expiration date. A shaky inhale. “It’s not.”

BROOKE   +   NOAH   :   ok this is kind of an out there idea but here goes.  the setting is new york city.  brooke is attending fashion school like in your canon.   it’s summer.  audrey is also there over the summer subletting an apartment with noah.  audrey is doing a film intensive over the summer at nyu and noah is doing a fancy tech internship.  landon works at a comic book shop downtown,  which noah frequents.  they become obnoxious nerd friends.  in this universe, superheroes exist  -  but whether its because a generator explosion (etc) happens while they’re in the city or whether they’ve always existed and noah and landon are nerds/hero trackers for it, is up to you.  anyway the gang (or some of the gang, noah doesn’t have to develop powers, but brooke does) develops powers during this time.  the tension comes when some of them (mostly brooke) don’t want to act on the powers and want a normal life after all their trauma,  but some (mostly noah) see being heroes as a moral obligation.   OR  give me my scream / legacies au thanks. 

MARGO   :    i’ve already kind of discussed margo in legacies verse with steph but i’m curious to hear your takes.   but i also think he’s the kind of wounded margo would take under her wing.   this isn’t an idea i just love margo. 

ALEX JS   :    alex is a medical intern.  a boy comes in to the ICU and dies under her mentors care.  as it so happens,  alex is the only one in the room when the body bursts in to flames and comes back to life.  cue a frantic call to jody to figure out who or what this kid is.   OR   bb alex getting to have a real childhood and friends her age at the salvatore school.   they bond over trauma. 

GEORGE F   :   george swore he was dead.   she felt his soul leave his body.   but a couple days later,  he’s at the restaurant,  looking for a job.   or a while, she’s suspicious that he’s some sort of demon,  but when he overhears the gang talking about activity all over town,  he tries to play detective and dies again in the process.  except this time,  when he dies,  he comes back with important information from the other side.   anyway the medium and the phoenix, deadly friendship duo.  

ASTER F]   :   they’re both full ride scholarship kids in a writing program at a prestigious university.  they’re fast friends because they get each other,  and aren’t as awful as their peers.  except,  they quickly discover the events of  a murder mystery novel they are peer reviewing in a writing seminar are happening in real life,  and they’re the only two sharp enough to solve the case.  OR  magicians universe,  they were unlikely friends in their youth and meet again at brakebills. 

ANNA M :   the fallen angel meets secret demon offspring.  she uses his cloaking abilities to hide from angels and demons a like, but they become friends, almost family, in their own right.  OR  anna milton malivore monster who turns her back on malivore. 

RAFAEL :    hogwarts raf lan OR an au where the salvatore school doesn’t exist,  or never recruited them.  they run away from hector and maria after rafael first turns and try to learn as much as they can about the supernatural and how to help raf on the road. 

MAGGIE   :   i have nothing to say i’ve given you pitches for them already, they’re flawless.   we should actually write them.

FROST   :    landon is a wise ass, superhero obsessed kid that frost saves all on her own and accidentally gets “killed” right after, but it turns out he never needed saving in the first place because he regenerates.   OR   a human or werewolf verse where they knew each other as children for a bit and landon wasn’t a dick to her for her condition so that was nice. 

CLAIRE   :   claire is on a hunt and assumes a loner is a her target.   when she realizes she was wrong,  he helps her finish the hunt,  only for them to realize he may not be human after all.  OR  them being friends at the salvatore school. 

MAGDA  :   a kind of men of letters and triad adjacent au where magda and landon are actually captured and studied,  but become friends and break out together   OR   landon and magda bonding in art therapy at the salvatore school.

KRISSY  :   a legacies au where when krissy was freshly turned, she drained a boy completely because she wasn’t able to control her power.  years later, now reformed but out of place at the salvatore school,  she sees him again  OR  a croatoan verse where landon, being part pheonix but not knowing, is impervious to the virus.  krissy saves him one day,  and upon realizing this,  decides that he might be important to finding a cure  ––  or at least some way of fighting back against lucifer.  ( but really its her bravery and smarts all along, he’s just a sidekick.  )

PATIENCE  :  lesbian and mlm excellence in  every  universe please.   was she cassie’s cousin or best friend that landon hung out with when he was third wheeling with cassie and raf ?  maybe.  are they fast friends at salvatore school ?   are they best friend in a pre-salvatore / more spn based universe ?  perhaps. 

QUENTIN   :   SUIC/IDE MENTION TW .   landon swears he wasn’t trying to kill himself,  because he wasn’t sure he could actually ever die.   he lands in treatment anyway.   there he meets a young quentin coldwater  ––  another first timer.  they bond quickly and easily,  both nerdy,  helplessly alone,  and preoccupied with a world everyone else had grown out of.   quentin loses track of landon when they move on to outpatient care,  with landon switching from home to home.   years later,  quentin swears he spots him at the brakebills entrance exam. 

ELIOT   :    i hate you the fact that none of your aus for eliot are up is   garbage  and i’ve already been nice and given you crumbs for quentin so i will not be providing any idea for them.

“  …  me?  ”  if  it  wasn’t  such  a  horrifying  thought,  maybe  he’d  be  laughing  right  now,  bitter  and  unfazed  and  all  too  over  whatever  it  was  that  pulled  him  into  these  scenarios  like  a  magnet.  wherever  he  went,  it  seemed,  trouble  always  followed.  and  of  course,  of  course,  some  shady  mud  monster  thing  would  be  waiting  for  him.  between  angels,  demons,  the  devil  himself,  god,  all  wanting  a  piece  of  him?  just  get  in  line!  “  well,  can  it  maybe…  wait  for  someone  else  instead?  ”

the guilt comes in a wave of realization. it beckons to him,  a light shining in the dark clouds of his mind  :  malivore.  landon unconsciously led them toward the pit because  malivore  wanted him to   ––   just like he’d steered landon to steal the artifacts.  once again,  he was part of a plan landon wanted no part in.   he digs his heels in to the muddy grass,  wills himself to stop before they can go ay further. 

" jack ? ”   he asks, voice trembling with both trepidation and the wariness of restraint.   “ what would malivore  want  from you ?  what are you ? ”

                                           “No.” Well, yes. Kind-of - “Not really. I mean – Okay, if you look at it this way then yeah, sure I can kinda see how you’d think you’re a hostage.” But it’s just answers that Graham wants – no, needs. “Things have gotten weird since you got here and I don’t think it’s just coincidence. And, look–” It’s been an awful few weeks. His dad was apparently this hellish being and is now dad. And now he’s been turning into the same figure his dad did against his will. “I think you want answers just as much as me. Especially after y’know…” Dying, not dying. All of…  “You are free to go. But I think we can help each other out.”

landon sits with his shoulders hunched,  knees tucked in to his chest.   he’s too quick with his temper,  brandishing a fresh mouth before he can think not to.   small spaces leave him cagey,   hair trigger temper pressed against the ball of his throat.   he scowls in the corner.   

“ isn’t one of the universal rules of situation generally we don’t negotiate with terrorists ? ”   he snarls,  head peaking up from between his arms,  limbs unfolding uncertainly,  ready-ing his body for what he does best  :  running away .   but he hesitates.   it’s true  :  all landon wants are  answers ,  answers he can’t find on his own.   quietly desperate eyes squint back at graham.   “ how do i know i can trust you ? ”
