She let her guard down, her ego would insist. It was lucky. It was unexpected. It shouldn’t have happened. But nothing the ego would insist would undo the actual damage.
First was the insult of her attack not destroying its target, which itself should be impossible. That that Lancer took what was likely to be a mortal hit didn’t do anything to assuage the fact that he undermined her show of force. Then the insult that that beast of a man could have broken free of her Mystic Eyes -- it sickened her. It angered her.
Each and every strike that followed was another insult. Damage compounding both to body and mind, her counterattacks were desperate, aimless writhing, failing to slow down the Berserker’s own rage. Her blood is red, too, and it gushes in rivers down her throat, down her breasts, splattering onto the ground where it scorches the earth and sends acidic steam back up into the air. Her scream of fury is weakened by the gurgle of her own blood in her throat.
Shadows peel off her body like smoke, her anger made manifest. A rage that could destroy all of Uruk if she only aimed it well --
One more cut and her head lolls on her shoulders, limp. She shudders, and her body briefly goes lax, except for those snakes, each having a mind of their own. They continue the counterattack where she, for a moment, cannot.
All of that sacrifice, all of that blood spilt, it still isn’t good enough for her. She, too, has that ability to withstand even a mortal blow.
It takes a moment for her to gather her thoughts.
Then every serpent head, glowing red like her eyes, turns towards Hercules. They open their mouths, she gathers her energy. And the darkness of the hate that lay within her concentrates into a thousand spears that hurtle towards him, enough to block out the sun.
Thermopylae Enomotia can only do so much, having taken a bad hit already. In the end, only Leonidas and Hercules are still standing -- only Leonidas still strong enough to raise his shield, after all the rest are gone.
But she won’t be satisfied until the both of them are crushed to dust.
