your hands shake and your breathing hitches, but you keep pounding on the door. someone’s gonna have to come, they have to right? it’s less than a couple minutes later, bryce finally opens the door and he’s yelling. you feel like you’re going to fall, but you try and you hit at him. focus is so distracted that you don’t even see jess moving in the background.
bryce leaves and you don’t know what happened- did he do it? did he actually fucking do it? you’re crying now, going over to jessica. hushed words, you keep your distance. somehow you saved her, you’ve at least done something right. one thing right in your life at least.
you go to stop the party, you’re not leaving. you’re terrified that he’s going to come back, you have to try to keep jess safe. your back is pressed against the door, you’re sleeping there until her parents are back again.
it’s strained, confusing but you pull away from bryce. it’s so conflicting in your head, but he tried to do that, to one of the only girls you ever loved. you want her in your life more than you need him.
i’m sorry. : the worst ending.
‘‘i never want to see your face again.’‘ the words ring in your ears, but you nod and try not to cry. you don’t deserve sadness over something that’s your own fault. you will grant her that at least, you owe her that much. so you pack a bag and leave.
the postcard is sent once you feel comfortable in a place, not that you think she’ll even look at it. your hands shake and you try to survive the streets. it’s been worse right? you can deal with it.
you get a taste of the addiction and you feel alive again, it’s a buzz. a way to keep going and survive this hell, better than to be left alone with your thoughts. better than to think about how much you miss her.
clay’s a week too late, you died for from an overdose. dead before you could even help her at all, a fuck up like you had been all your life. dead and gone.

you go to rehab at the end of high school, deferring school for a solid two years. you and jess talk off and on, but it gets farther in between calls as life goes on. clay still talks to her from time to time, almost always keeping you updated. not that you ask though.
meeting in the dinner that night was random chance, you without alice and jessica without her current so. you talk for hours, just like you used to. ( minus the whole kissing bit, that’d be awkward considering . )
it starts happening more and more, you meet up and you talk. hell, you blink and you’re somehow kissing in your apartment. always tied together, but distantly apart. ever since highschool, a mess of a pair.
you break up with alice and she’s the first one you call, she helped the choice. but she wasn’t the only reason. part of you felt like you wanted an out for much longer than you’ve been talking to jess again.
the agreement for the two of you go to therapy comes a bit after she’s broken up with her so. you two can’t talk without avoiding things. you need to and there’s when you start therapy together..
it’s a process, but you agree to remain friends during it. no matter what happens on the other side. you just want each other happy and content.
