Atticus mind reached out towards Dan’s voice, his eyes closed as he tried to find the firm hold to the other,his body still shaking slightly as he finally found his own voice to be able to focus on Dan long enough “Dan…..I…I’m here….I ….I’m going to be okay now I have you”

“That’s it, baby, focus on me.” Dan whispered, and he stroked Atticus’ soft, curly hair back. “Come on, can you relax into the warmth? You’re gonna be okay, they’re just loud. Focus on the good.”

Atticus closed his eyes as he melted into the others touch his body shaking as he tried to focus onto the good and happiness he had found in Dan, the voices loud and strong as he blocked each one out one by one, his body slowly calming down as he shuddered "I....I'm sorry"

“Focus on me, sweet.” Dan whispered, and he kissed Atti’s forehead gently. “Let a spirit take over if you need to, but I need to get you to focus on me and my voice, okay? You need to focus on me so you can be okay.”

Atticus sighed softly it wasn’t a case that he was hiding it it was a case of he didn’t know how to explain what was going on in his head at that moment in time, he looked up at Dan and shook his head, “I feel like I’m going crazy the voices never stop, I can’t focus on one to help and I can’t shut them off…..I can only ever focus on sounds….even the threat of james isn’t helping….Dan i’m scared….”

“Let me help.” Dan whispered, and he rubbed at Atticus’ back softly, soothing and gentle. “Focus on me, don’t focus on them. Listen to my voice, baby, it’s all gonna be okay. Focus on me, let them fade.”

Atticus nodded as he stepped in with the other boy, letting the warm water wash over his skin, and seep into everything he was , refreshing and relaxing his mind, he was hurting still, and he knew he had to force his happiness so Dan didn’t see he was scared he was going crazy, his mind screaming constantly now.

“You shouldn’t have to hide. If you don’t make me hide James, I don’t want you to think you have to hide that…. gift, curse, whatever you want to call it.” Dan murmured, soaping up his skin quietly. “I don’t want you to force things in front of me. We both know how much that adds to the hurt.”

Atticus nodded as he took Dan’s hands he was still lost for words and wasn’t sure he could actually speak without freaking out in that moment, his eyes closed as he tilted his head to the side, stepping under the warm cascade of water, it soothed his body , the stresses melting away, he just hoped that he wasn’t on the road to a break down, he’d had one not long after meeting Dan and Phil and it hadn’t been pretty, now the was only Dan to build him back up andd he wasn’t sure that Dan would cope with it alone.

“You’ll be okay.” Dan soothed, and he stepped into the shower as well, letting the hot water curl up his hair, run down his face and body. “Relax, let the water calm you down inside, and then we’ll head out for our date.”

Atticus wasn’t convinsed that James would really do much, since the spirits tended to play bu their own rules, he wasn’t sure Dan’s darker side could scare away how terrfied he was feeling and how much the constant noise was getting to him. But still it was nice Dan wanted to try and help him. The voice startled Atticus a little as his brain fought with what to do with this new information. He shook his head, he was being stupid, The monsters weren’t going to get him were they? Thats what the spirts said, something was lurking in the dark coming after him.

“James will not harm Atticus, but he will harm you.” Dan hissed as he stepped away, his eyes darkening back to normal as he took Atticus by the hand. “Let’s go shower, my love.”

Dan sighed, and he shifted to press his forehead to Atti’s, taking a deep breath and…. allowing James out, to let the other entity inside him scare away the thoughts. “Leave him alone.” He growled, in a voice mixed between his own and his demon’s. “Let my Atticus be and you will face no harm.”

That was the main thing. finding a happy medium where they could both work and live together, agaisnt a world that had tried to ruin them.

Dan smiled gently, taking Atticus by the hand and pulling himself up. “I think a nice warm shower, some exploring…. maybe a bit of a swim in the sea to cool us off after?” He murmured, planning quietly in his head. “Just things to help us bond and distract me from everything in my head.”

Atticus nodded and lead the other inside not wanting to mention the pounding that was going on in his own head due to his gift he was currently trying to keep himself sane. “ sounds perfect love ….come come”

“How’s your own head?” Dan offered up, heading towards the bathroom to run the pair a warm shower. “I know your gift must drive you crazy, and I’m here to help you in any way I can, just as you’re here to help me. Talk to me, my love?”

“I have faith in how well we’ll do.” Dan agreed, and he lay back gently on the deck, Atti’s head still on his shoulder. “I love you, Atticus Falco…. you’ve helped more than any anti-psychotic drug could have.”

Dan took a deep, slow breath, feeling his lungs begin to crystallise with the salt in the air, blowing off the ocean nearby. “I think it’ll be easier for me to relax here with you…. no city noise, just ocean and sun.”

“I’d like to speak with him later today if you have the energy.” Dan murmured, tipping his face up to capture Atticus’ soft lips. “I just want to talk to him, thank him for all he did for me while he was still around…. thank him for giving me you.”

A very big promise I want to keep”. He wanted to make sure Dan knew that, the fact they now had two places and lived and worked together was a sign, but he wanted to give Dan a promise ring, he wasn’t sure if the other would ever want to marry but at least a promise ring would show his commitment.

“I want to keep my promises too…. to love you, to be here for you when you need me…. my promise to Phil that I wouldn’t hurt myself again.” He sighed gently, shaking his head. “I did that a lot after he passed.”
