DIY Lip Exfoliant: So I don’t know about anyone else but winter completely dries my lips out! I use lip balm all the time but nothing gives me a refreshing feel like exfoliating my lips.  I’m addicted to matte lipstick. I love the whole flat, eloquent touch that it gives your lips. Unfortunately for me, even after putting on some balm, using matte lipstick shows all of my lips flaws.  Cracked lips do not go over well when applying lipstick.  I needed a solution and what better way to find one than doing it myself for free! Exfoliating smooths out the surface of your lips all while leaving them feeling insanely soft.  Nothing better than that.  Creating your own exfoliant is SUPER easy. The best part about it is that most of the items are probably just lying in your kitchen cabinet!  All you need is sugar and oils.  For my mix I used honey, virgin olive oil, coconut oil, essence, and white sugar. I learned while doing facial sea salt scrubs that honey is great for your skin! You can make this mix using anything you want.  Personally, I don’t like anything that tastes terrible near my mouth.  You don’t need two oils but they both have such awesome properties and are super moisturizing so why not! When using coconut oil try and go for the pure ones from the health food store,  I just didn’t have any at the moment. The sugar will help scrub off any dry skin on your lips.  For more of a grainy finish, use brown sugar!  You do not need much of anything. Use a teaspoon to measure your oils. I wanted mine extra moisturizing but trust me it’s really grainy. Takes you no longer than 30 seconds. Just mix it all together, use your finger to scrub your lips for as long as you feel necessary, wet a paper towel and wipe it off.  It tastes awesome and it’s all natural so if you’re feeling hungry, lick it off! Apply you’re favorite lip balm after and you’re good to go. You can have fun with it! Olive oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin E and coconut oil are all good bases to use. Cane sugar, regular white sugar or brown sugar are great to mix in.  Honey helps the ingredients stick together! Flavor it up! Vanilla essence, rosemary and peppermint extracts or even a little cinnamon would even be cool. You could even use fruits like oranges, apples, and mango! Try to keep it natural and not TOO watery. Remember, it’s a scrub! Have fun and remember it’s going near YOUR mouth! Keep it in a small container and rock it out! Happy Skin Care!
