Jake Bugg and Robbo (for a bit of the interview) talk to Confront Magazine...
Confront: So what did you think of the Montreal crowd?
Jake: *turns to bass player in the other room* What did you think of the Montreal crowd, Robert?
Robert: Yeah they were great! Good crowd. Noisy!
Jake: Yeah, definitely noisy.
Confront: So when you play a festival like Osheaga or a headlining show tonight, do you prepare any differently or is there one that you prefer?
Jake: It depends, I mean, with festivals it’s just a load of bands sitting around giving each other dirty looks backstage. And I’m probably the worst culprit for it though! I probably give the most dirty looks.
Confront: *laughs* Oh yeah?
Jake: Yeah, but I never go up to anyone. I’m not great at meeting new people, so sometimes I can say something mean or a bit strange to make them feel as uncomfortable as I am about meeting them! But you know, if anyone wants to come and say hello, they can.
Confront: Do you have a favorite thing about touring?
Jake: You get to meet a lot of great people. And we just got GTA 5 on the Xbox, and I couldn’t even afford one of those at home never mind on the tour bus!
Confront: Do you have a favorite song on the new record?
Jake: I don’t have a favorite song, I don’t have favorites of mine.
Confront: Not on the first one either?
Jake: No, I mean, I listen to my music when I’m writing it and when I’m recording it.
Confront: Then you don’t listen again?
Jake: Once it goes out on the shelf, it’s not mine anymore. I’ve created something that I’ve decided to give to the world and they can do whatever they like with it. I just enjoy making songs. I don’t enjoy listening to them!
Confront: For sure! I have to ask, but where does the name “Bugg” come from?
Jake: I imagine it’s a funny one, isn’t it? Because on Wikipedia, it says Jacob Edwin Charles Kennedy. My name is not Jacob.
Confront: Well you can’t trust Wikipedia!
Jake: Yes, you can’t trust it! But yes, Bugg is actually my dad’s name. It’s not a stage name!
Confront: Yeah? Google does say something different, but I will take your word for it!
Jake: What did Google say?
Confront: It did say your name was Jacob and that your last name was Kennedy!
Jake: Oh yeah, that is my mother’s name! And my dad’s name is Bugg. And it is quite a strange name. Robert said he was on one of those websites where you can see where names originate from and where they spread to different parts of the world. Apparently that name does not move out of Nottingham at all, where I’m from, it just stays in this one little spot!
Confront: Oh, really?
Jake: Yeah.

I think he meant Robbo not Robert, Jake just has a thick accent.
