Doing a reread of Bride, to then roll into Mate. The silver lining of having a terrible memory, I vaguely remember the twists but I don't remember all the pieces. So it's kinda like reading it for the first time again. 😂
Did I miss it, did the King know Blade would steal the dragon egg? Or was it just everything happened around the same time?
We learned from Otto that the King had the chain made six months ago.
Sage started working at the Manor five months ago.
The chain was stolen/delivered to the Manor during Sage's first week (assumably because her father knew of the shipment).
Blade showed up to the Manor a two weeks after Sage. The dragon already hatched but was tiny when he arrived.
I don't think we have the exact timeline of when Blade found it. So it could have been right at that six months mark.
Which then things line up. Stolen egg, chain made, chain delivered, Blade shows up.
Otherwise, did the King knew Blade would steal it/encouraged it maybe?
It sounds like maybe the King requested Blade's father to bring him to court that day, presented the opportunity of the egg theft, since Blade said no one really stopped him.
If so, why give the Villain a dragon? Even with the chain to weaken it for a bit, it still resulted in the Villain having a dragon.
Or am I messing up the timeline and the chain was made right as the egg was stolen? Everything was just within those first couple weeks of Sage starting as the assistant.
Going to have the worst book hangover after reading The Villain books back to back. I adore the multitude of POVs and frequency we switch between characters a lot. I will take any suggestions for more books/series like this.
*Includes spoilers for the novel* (Tried to keep this short, failed. Definitely failed.)
Assistant to the Villain (book 1) was a whimsical slice of life story
Apprentice to the Villain (book 2) was a fantasy adventure
I'm about 15% through Accomplice to the Villain (book 3) as of this bullet point, and it's shaping up to be the best one yet
Idk how Evie and Gideon got past Nura (albeit accidentally) aiming the full force of her powers at Lyssa so quickly; If Keeley hadn't been there, Lyssa would have died
RENNEDAWN'S STORY WAS WRITTEN ON THE WINDOWS ALL ALONG (amazing plot device that the original glass was used, but the windows were all redesigned, so they'll have to go piecing it all together again)
If Kingsley loses his human sentience, and it’s not fixed by the end of the book, I’m gonna riot ➡️ we didn’t even get one sentence from his human lips, but he’s back!
Trystan “The Villain” Maverine STUTTERING. High five Evie✋
All of chapter 19 was glorious
Evie asking who cares if her smile’s fake and genuinely believing the answer is no one💔
Becky is giving Hermione Granger by saying being fired is worse than getting murdered
I’m so happy that Evie was able to tell her mother how she truly feels; it’s so telling that Evie says she needs time (and space), and Nura immediately tries to pull her back into the conversation
Becky experiencing female friendships and companionship for the first time 🥹🥹🥹
Trystan buying all those vanilla candies, but making Evie believe it’s from Marv - mans is besotted
Trystan’s internal monologue in his chapters cracks me up
I hope Tatianna and Clare clear up their miscommunications and secrets and live happily ever after; kinda scared what Clare’s secret is and what she did while under her mother’s thumb though
A round of applause for Evie giving Trystan an ultimatum 👏
Becky and Blade’s love confessions mirroring each other❤️
Only Evie would sprint at and hug a rampaging magical creature to calm it down
“Don’t allow the boss get away with murder, Evie!” Evie… you killed a man 5 minutes ago???
Not Trystan and Evie both having mommy and daddy issues🥀🥀🥀
The Maverine Matron is even worse than I expected. How does Winnifred serve her without constantly spitting in her food?
Also, I’m guessing Winnifred is Kingsley’s true love ➡️ welp, after getting to the end of the book, we know it’s not Kingsley at all
My face while reading when Evie slapped Amara Maverine: 😲
My next thought: Amazing, do it again
Becky being there for Lyssa and comforting her; Becky seeing herself in Lyssa’s insecurities; Becky reassuring Lyssa that she’s not a copy of her mother🥹🥹🥹
It took 3 books, but the slow burn has finally erupted! To quote Kingsley: FINALLY.
Just as Keeley is Rapunzel-coded, Winnifred is Cinderella-coded
I did not expect Marv to be the traitor
I am disappointed but not surprised that Nura Sage was gullible enough to trust her ex-husband at his word, but at least she didn’t mean to betray her children (knocking Gideon out though? wtf was the plan with that)
I lovedddd the plot twists at the end. The magic was Evie’s all along? Tristan is Benedict’s son? Holyyyyyyy
Now we have to wait for the last book in the series😭
Chapter 12: "My magic doesn't matter." He was resolved in that. Evie could tell by how strongly he spoke the words, how the statement didn't seem at all emotional, just factual, pure logic in his mind. "No one touches you right now but me."
Chapter 19: “After I get you some pearls to clutch, would you mind repeating yourself?”
Chapter 28: “She’s not a thing, you ass.” [You tell ‘em Trystan. F*ck people that objectify women]
Chapter 29: “You will treat my lady with respect, you damn cad!” he bellowed, heat climbing his face when he realized he’d swapped the word “the” for “my.” [and Tatianna & Clare’s subsequent reactions]
Chapter 33: “You take enjoyment in how I turn into an ill-spoken nincompoop every time I talk to you?” [I love that word too Evie]
Chapter 37: He’d been behind on his heinous-lie quota for the month; this ought to catch him up.
Chapter 50: “She’s not a bag of goods to be tossed around from one person to the next!” Aw, that’s sweet. And the expectations of chivalry were sinking lower by the minute.
Chapter 53: But then again, she supposed that’s where her true strength lived — in her ability to be vulnerable, in the depth of her feelings.
This is a very fair point. Here's hoping book 4 addresses it, cause yeah, a lot of destiny pushing people where they're supposed to be does happen in these books. (For better or worse)
Loved it! Feel like this series is going to become a comfort read I pick up regularly.
Thoughts below. Spoilers duh 😁
Wonderful continuation of the series
Love the friendship and found family relationships growing and deeping. So many little moments.
Dialogue and banter with these characters is fantastic
Kept me guessing who the traitor was
Love Blade and Becky. 'I think I love you. Okay bye." Is maybe one my favorite parts of the book.
Gideon and Keeley are super cute. I like the Rapunzel thing building with Keeley.
Finally. Evie and Trystan admitted the feelings and finally got together.
Fuck Amara. She's a bitch.
A smidge confused with the epilogue ending. Is that Kingsley? Or is it the other traitor with the whole t writing thing? How'd he turn back (true love's kiss, but who in the woods kissed him? Setting up it was Winnifred right?)?
Duh, Evie is the true villain (magic going to her was a huge tell). Trystan being the prince was a bit surprising.
At what point would it be considered not rude to just thrust my hand into the book and bonk Evie and Trystan’s heads together and yell ‘Kiss and Confess, you dolts!’
