Hi!

I’m being tongue in cheek when I say he ships it, but at last year’s Starfury Invasion Kyle referred to Cassian as “the real love of Syril’s life” … in other words, the obsession with Cassian is (he thinks) more passionate than anything Syril feels for Dedra. So I guess he’s thinking of the way Syril stares at Cassian’s hologram image from ten years ago and has clearly memorised every single aspect of his face - recognising him immediately in the Ghorman plaza. Kyle also mentioned how tragic it was for Syril that the object of his obsession didn’t even recognise him. He’s “ crushed; heartbroken.” Unrequited hate not too far away from toxic love perhaps!

one year ago yesterday i started writing my first ever fic so i wanted to commemorate my writing anniversary with a fic illustration! being a new writer while writing exclusively for non-canon rarepairs (moncassian and… *checks notes* peedy?) forced me to confront very early on whether i like the hobby enough simply for the sake of doing it. and while i’m still not sure whether i will continue, i’m very grateful to have found a fandom community through it. it’s been wonderful to talk about the writing process, learn from other writers, and make new friends. 🫶

writing is still challenging for me, and even after a year my total finished word count is only 19.5k, but considering my original intent was to write a oneshot to excise my moncassian brainworms, i’d say i’ve exceeded my expectations (or not, considering the brainworms have multiplied).

stupid thought I had about dedra and systems and power and all of that: you know how from age 7 to age 37 you completely transform but from say 27 to 57 you're still recognisable as the same person pretty much. so for example, say, someone like captain kaido could well have been a former warden at a kinderblock in his 20s and be instantly recognisable to one dedra meero. while of course this recognition would not happen in reverse because the last time he saw her she was just another sniveling little brat in the kennel he's paid to keep order in whereas now she's an ISB supervisor. something something you fight tooth and claw just to end up in the same room as the man who used to beat you only he's shaking your hand now. he could still beat you if he wanted and you know it you know the badges don't really protect you but what else do you have
