Anyways since the Troll Hunters movie sucks, here's my interpretation of how it should've been:

Tobias dies and Jim tries to reset the previous six years and Toby becomes the troll hunter like usual. But there's this butterfly effect, and more people die, including Toby, resulting in Jim becoming the troll hunter again. Soon Jim just pulls a modoka magica and keeps resetting, hoping to save this one person. After doing this enough times, he just accepts Toby's death and takes his roll of the troll hunter
