huh actually i do love seiusa fics where usagi is suddenly just DIFFERENT and all she can think about how trapped she feels with mamoru, but a lot of it feels like it’s because of seiya… and often mamoru is written to be a sort of “huh? when did this happen?”
maybe it’s because i actually do love mamoru, but i would love to see more introspection from him… where he thinks “she’s changed in more ways than just that she doesn’t love me anymore”. i saw a screencap set of usagi with chibi chibi and part of me yearns for mamoru to interact with a more mature usagi.
personally, my view of anime mamoru is i see him as a deeply closeted homosexual cough that he doesn’t actually find himself in love with usagi… he isn’t attracted to her. he finds her immature, but in the sort of way he finds chibiusa immature too— he sees them as younger sisters. but i feel like mamoru would also feel the pressure of silver millennium and endymion, thus he thinks “when usagi becomes a bit more mature, she will become someone i love” (which sounds problematic i know but STAY WITH ME!!)
but then when he actually MEETS the mature usagi, post-stars… he realizes, no, it’s not about maturity or adulthood. he just doesn’t love her like that. they aren’t meant to be like that. even if she becomes the perfect adult, wife, mom— she’s not what he wants.
and of course, usagi feels the same. i could see her ALSO feeling similarly — “once i become a mature adult, ill be good enough for mamoru” (using the good enough thing here deliberately), but also she will see herself as satisfied with the relationship. but once she does become an adult, and has her horizons expanded by seiya, she realizes — no, it’s not me, its not mamoru. it’s us. we just aren’t compatible.
anyway… that’s my headcanon and i probably will write a fic for this so help me god.
