hi!! 🍀 last year we had a veery late mushishiweek, so this year I'd like to arrange it during the summer, like before!

also, as a sloow slow disabled artist I've noticed there's not enough time for me to prepare between the announcement of the prompts and the event! would a month be enough for all?

day 2 - summer shell / 夏の貝殻

this is a wip and needs a bit more. well. seashells. I realized this is the first time I draw one (⁠ ⁠；⁠∀⁠；⁠) also the background feels off, I'll see what I can do

this is no character in particular, loosely based on Mina from the seashell episode.

day 1 - colorful shadow / カラフルな影

I feel like I want to explain the meaning in this because it means a lot to me •••

the prompt is colorful shadow. I chose to draw Tanyuu.

she's home bound and disabled. as a kid she was angry and wanted to be like all the other people. we know that, as she got older, her anger subdued and instead came acceptance. but still, she suffers, like any other person would.

you feel divided, split up into two parts. the real you, and the one you never got to be.

I wanted to express this feeling.

the one who is in pain and restrained by her body and situation is on the left, in monochrome. she's almost consumed, dying.

the colorful one is on the right. she's not really colorful, I chose just red. it generally is a festive colour and means vitality.

as these two parts are inseparable, they hold hands. orange lilies represent hatred, because you hate your colorful self. and you hate yourself for being helpless.

the number 4 means death because I like to kill my favourite characters.

First up, thank you all so much for the many prompts and ideas you submitted, it was a thrill to construct this year‘s prompt list!

Mod Hiendar suggested to coin together 2-word prompts since single word ones can be too open - of course, we‘ve always provided two separate prompts per day for that exact reason, but I really liked this idea - therefore, this year‘s prompts look more elaborate! This way, we‘re also able to include double the amount of submitted prompts :D

Mushishi: Hihamukage (The Shadow that Devours the Sun) - English Translation

A couple of lovely people on Reddit have made an unofficial English translation of the Mushishi Special: “The Shadow that Devours the Sun” (蟲師 特別篇 「日蝕む翳」) chapters, linked above! These were adapted into an OVA which aired in 2014, 8 years after the first season ended.
