@norrington-hell
Will, nice hat.
im aware james norrington's proposal was painful and ended poorly but he has nothing on fitzwilliam fucking darcy
hang on. put john thornton on the scale too
is this anything
#if james had started an active fight he and elizabeth would be happily married to this day. alas#wait hang on let me think#ok so james’ proposal would have worked on elizabeth bennet because she would have seen and vibed with the repressed adoration#thornton’s proposal would have worked with Elizabeth Swann bc she would have loved the argument and would have preened at him thanking her#for saving him from an angry mob#and darcy’s proposal…. fitzwilliam i hate to break it to you but that shit would not have worked on anyone. (tags via @r-osehips)
a detail i appreciate about the cotbp script
he’s helping
same eyebrows. same scowl. same expression.
we all talk about elizabeth’s kiss of death but i want to talk about how every ship james ever sails on ( the dauntless, the interceptor, the pearl, the endeavor ) ends up at the bottom of the ocean with the exception of the dutchman, which is the ship that he himself dies on
(via @emcads)
something something HE also ends up at the bottom of the ocean rather than in the hands of a pirate (Elizabeth Swann)
“The door creaked open and Admiral Lawrence Norrington entered. Trailing closely behind him, hanging onto his coattails, was a young boy, about ten years younger than Jack. ‘James,’ Admiral Norrington said, ‘please refrain from tugging upon my waistcoat.’ The boy looked down, ashamed. He was clearly frightened by all the goings-on aboard the ship, and every time a blast resounded he attempted to hide behind the admiral, who, in turn, was having none of it. The admiral squatted beside the boy and held him by the shoulders. ‘You need to be brave, son. There are men out there who are savages, and they want to destroy you and your entire way of life. They are uncivilized, heathen, thieving, filthy pirates, and when I have gone on to a final rest, it is you who will carry on the banner of civility and order, and help the Crown and our allies in the East India Trading Company eradicate their slime from the Seven Seas.’ As if in response, just as the admiral finished, a tremendous explosion rocked the boat. The boy began to sob, and his father slapped him across the face, telling him to come to his senses and act like a man.”
— Sins of the Father (Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow #10), by Rob Kidd
“Take care, my brave son, or you will bleed for a girl who will never be yours.”
Oh fine! Let’s just haul out our swords and start banging away at each other, that will solve everything!
if norrington had lived to meet henry turner it’d be a snape and harry situation? nah I’m thinking more like an obi-wan and luke situation. i want an au where james survives and watches over henry and trains him in sword fighting and teaches that kid how to really swash his buckles:
“tortuga. you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy”
norrington in exile from the EIC because he betrayed beckett, sequestering himself to some cabin on a remote tropical island to watch over henry in an agreement only he and elizabeth know about
norrington emerging from exile to save henry from wayward pirates like, “those pirates are easily startled, but they will return and in greater numbers”
norrington omitting crucial parts of will’s history from henry because he thinks he’s protecting the boy
so much wasted potential could have gone into keeping norrington around
james norrington is icarus: his zealousness and ambition allowed him to carve for himself a career in the royal navy, but these are the very same characteristics that lead him to crash and burn. though he’s a sort of icarus invert: instead of flying too close to the sun, he sails through a hurricane, and his wings (his crew, commission, vessel) are destroyed. this icarus managed to come out of it alive, only to find his world had turned on him, and he had set himself up for failure yet again.
yayyy you brought back dirty stray james and elizabeths sexy queen pirate scars look!!
YEEPIE i did !!!! I refreshed their designs !
Pirate King ! 🦜
some potc sketches bc I'm in norribeth hell these days they deserved better.
#I know I’ve said it before but I’m going to say it again #James expected Beckett would want to kill Jones #and he was 1000% ready to be the headsman swinging that proverbial axe #I don’t believe it even occurred to him before Beckett stopped him how deep the man’s greed and corruption ran #when he initiated the trade, I fully expect that in his mind he was ridding the world of a dangerous and cruel eldritch creature and gaining back his honor/commission #protection and redemption #but that’s not how it went down at all
#instead James watches in increasing unease as Beckett reveals his intentions #and fields the dawning realization that he has achieved neither #he has not protected the innocent #and though he may have a new commission there is no honor in it #he has delivered a devastating weapon into the hands of a monster #who goes on to command monsters #to do monstrous things
#and in that process he has betrayed- and quite possibly condemned- the woman he loves #well done James #well done

free my girl she did all that and that’s what makes her such a compellingly complex character. that’s her essence
