Finnegan leans in close, his eyes narrowing as he lifts his military cap up, their silvery gaze meeting yours. He extends his hand, cupping the side of his mouth as he lowers his voice. "I found this old network file from the Pre-Stranding Era that talked about 'rizzing people up'. Thought I'd give it a go!" A chuckle bubbles up in his chest, stifling it as best as he can, which only results in a quiet wheeze. "Higgs tells me to stop, and that I'm embarrassing him, but I kind of enjoy the idea of 'locking in'. I think he should try it sometime!"

Higgs (muffled): "I heard that!"

Finn looks back behind them, knowing the man himself is just around the corner. He starts to snicker even harder, handing you the photo. "Go quickly, before— wheeze— before he sees you!" He ushers you out the bunker door, looking back once or twice to ensure the man didn't round the corner. The heavy contraption opens up as Finn nudges you out, leaving you with nothing but the cloth on your back— and the god awful photo in your hands.

"What the actual fuck is wrong with him," you question quietly.

The Next Time Around

Been a looong time since I last saw those glory days. The Golden Mask, the screams of my name, my face plastered on every god damned poster from Capital to Port Knot. Then came the Plate Gate...the ghost...the guitar...the tears that trekked across my face just like that sorry ass Porter did all across the UCA...only to find me once more when he hit those red sands...Completely Reimagined.

Been a longer time since the beginnin' of it all...The voidouts, the torture, the fear—

The pain—

The loneliness.

Thought for sure that maybe, just maybe, this time I'd see those Pearly Gates...but the Beach doesn't exactly like to work that way, now does it?

I remember the darkness, the humming, the water in my ears— I thought maybe I'd ended up back on my Beach...but I was stuck. Stuck somewhere between the Ocean— and the Sand. Tar took me under that time, a void...ever since Lou ate me on that Beach.

Felt like days, then weeks...months— then years...just...wanderin'...watchin'...waitin'.

And then, one day, she just...poof. Decided she'd spit me back out. And just like that? SNAP! There I was again: Little ole me, vomiting tar, shakin' like a leaf. But this time 'round? I wasn't a ghost. No no, the Beach likes playin' those little tricks now and again. I found myself cold, wet, shiverin'.

I was boldly, undeniably human again.

They found me, Sam and them of course, said I was nothin' but a tar soaked corpse, somehow makin' my way back to em again.

Always findin' each other, time and time again. That's funny, ain't it?

They took me in, kept me alive— all for the sake of mercy. I was in a coma for what was the better part of a year until I finally decided to open my eyes. And as soon as I saw their faces, my world spun on its heel.

Been a few months since those days though, and god dammit, it's been Hell. Had to relearn how to walk, how to rebuild myself...how to use my DOOMS. All of it just...erased itself from my memory after so long. It was embarrassing.

But now? I got a new mission. These people, this ship, everything. There's gotta be a reason I kept coming back, kept findin' em—

Kept staying connected.

And dammit, I'm gonna find out why.

So as I sit here, ego death n' all it's glory, I've come to recognize my appreciation for the dulce far niente; That sweet nothingness that tends to bind us all together. But that rest ain't gonna last long, no siree. Not with me on board. There's still work to be done, plenty of places to travel, and not nearly enough time.

So c'mon Sam, let's hit the road.

We got a network to build.
