Old higurashi amvs are so something bc like, you can track the average narrative comprehension in watching them, and you know that an amv maker has self restraint if they wait to use the rika furude meakashi knife incident. A good way to find some interesting ones are to find like cofandoms or like, fanbases that exist in like similar narrative spaces (like kingdom hearts, there’s an overlap), or look up older bands when trying to find amvs. The authors often leave funny little comments about it all, but there’s often not many comments so I worry abt putting like an EX kid on blast and having them delete their former work. The linkin park higurashi amvs are so good bc early linkin park has a lot of the vibes of 2000s jrock so even mashups sound good. I’m doing linkin park ones first

This breaking the habit amv is so good bc while it’s an onikakushi only keiichi amv it truly understands his feelings in this and has even some really lovely silence to punctuate the horrors of onikakushi like psychologically. One of my favs.

This one is messier but is def a very powerful amv, it is trying to be “arc killer” centric but it ends up leaning on the keiichi emotions, often choosing to splice scenes of him along side other character in a way that I find to be like informal. IDK if the author meant is but paralleling of the violence via clip choices ends up reading in a very nuanced way and sort of questions its nature and points sympathetically at everyone. It aligns moments right before and right after violence, it aligns mistakes, it aligns intentionally hurting others, it aligns feelings of regret and sorrow. It really understands the tragedy of these friends hurting each other. I just find the collection of clips used in that order good is what I’ll say. And then when it ends on a tsumihoro note, it adds a twinge of hope.

This one is more focused on the more girls side of the hinamizawa torment nexus. It’s very interested in the more scenic and symbolic even if unprofessional. I’m pretty fond of it ngl. It’s not the most focused but I understand the feelings the creator wanted to put in, and that’s what’s most important.

Crawling has a lot of higurashi amvs bc like, have you heard the lyrics?

I think for a lot of the more gory higurashi amvs I think their biggest issue isn’t the gore actually (even if at time it can be overblown causing it to lose meaning.) it is the fact that they can end up directionless or aimless.

The previous statement doesn’t apply here. This fully understands the violence of itself and its innate chaos, and it’s awesome. It’s experimental in a good way, playing with layers, colors, blur, and speed to try and make the amv pop! It strongly integrates as a collective but doesn’t get nauseating or flashy with its edits. The simultaneous aesthetic of the clips at times kind of adds a lot.

There’s more of these I like but I’ll stick you with these for now. All of these are under 100k views the numb amv is under 1000 which is a huge shame.

Ngl I think it might be helpful to bunch some together for at least the fragments I post, for the sake of brevity. Part of me also wants to go back and link the OG videos, I’ll probably do that for more obscure ones realistically.
