            A DARK RED SHIMMER STAINED HIS hands, his arms, his shirt. it was irritatingly sticky, and left a rather disgusting feeling when he peeled it off. they probably had to wait until they’re near a body of water to wash it off their skin. eyes glances to the left, past the body of one of the youngest tributes. or, used to be one. cato raised his chin, spitting on the ground. just as he was about to check for a lovely weapon o’ steel, he heard marvel jolt something about loverboy. cato turned around, a frown appearing on his face whilst he stepped forward.

           it might not work. peeta knew that, and yet still, here he was, trying. it wasn’t even courage that made him stand his ground. it was nothing but sheer hope, a determined belief that some higher power would make his plan work. unarmed, off-guard, he didn’t approach the careers, but nor did he run; if all went well, then he would be able to infiltrate their group, lead them away. and he so DESPERATELY wanted to keep them away from katniss. hands raised in surrender, he spoke.

       “no-- look, i can HELP you. find her. she’s your biggest opponent, right? i can find her.”
