Allah will never test you with something you can’t handle
For my fellow Muslims who suffer from mental illness, I’d like to share a tip I learned from my wonderful counselor (who I miss so much now that I live out in the boonies and have no access to therapy services anymore).
She was non-Muslim, but upon learning that I was Muslim and learning a little about Islam and what I do during the day as a Muslim, ie praying five times a day, wudu, etc, she taught me to incorporate grounding techniques into my prayers as a way to keep consistent not only spirituality but also in my treatment of my OCD.
I tend to start missing prayer when I have an OCD related anxiety attack. So, she taught me to start using prayer when I’m having good days to teach myself to associate prayer with grounding techniques for when those bad days come. So, for example, every time you pray, either at the beginning, or the end, or both, do 10 deep breaths. Do some grounding techniques. The one she taught me was where you identify five things you can hear, five things you can feel, five things you can see and five things you can smell (if you can). And then, you go around again, this time finding four things of each, three things of each, two, one, etc. So, you do this during prayer (I usually do it afterwards when I do it) and you start implementing it before you have an anxiety attack.
There is also another technique where you picture your problems written on the side of a train. In your mind, you see the train coming with your problems written on the side of it. You mentally watch the train go by, and then acknowledge the problem exists, but that you are not going to obsess over it, and then mentally watch the train go by, taking your obsessions over the problems with it. I tend to do that technique after making dua and talking to Allah about my problems, because then that helps me not to dwell after taking my worries to Allah and relieves my anxiety a bit.
I found this really helpful to help me not abandon prayer when I have a bad OCD day, or just a bad day in general, because I’ve associated my grounding techniques with prayer or dua, so now prayer is a calming experience for me, not just spiritually, but for treatment, as well. I’m not saying this is a perfect science or that you’ll never miss prayer again because of this, because I know those of us struggling with varying degrees of severity with mental illness will have some dark days. I’m just saying that this can helpful if prayer is something you would like to focus on while also coping with a mental illness. I hope it’s beneficial to someone out there.
the biggest lie i ever told & how my husband came to protect it
for years i have lived this lie telling everyone i am allergic to peanuts because i hate the smell of peanut butter and don’t really like peanut butter that much but whenever i used to tell people i don’t like peanut butter they’d get all defensive like “peanut butter is amazing how do you not like it?!” and then i’d have to go into this whole thing to defend my taste buds.
but then i got tired of it and started telling people that i’m just allergic to peanuts because that way it’s not my fault that i hate the smell of peanut butter - it’s now like i’m a sad little baby who will never get to taste peanut butter ever in her life and everyone feels sad for me.
but the problem is that i really love peanut m&ms and so now i can only eat peanut m&ms when i’m at home in secret. the only person who knows my lie is my husband. and so at work this evening we had a small celebration for someone and they had peanut m&ms and i really wanted some but obviously couldn’t eat them in public because then people would know my peanut secret.
and so when we got home after work my husband tipped his jacket over and emptied his pockets and at least thirty or so peanut m&ms fell out of his pockets and he whispered, “i was sneakily accumulating them all night for you because i could see the pain in your eyes.”
and if that isn’t love then i don’t know what is.
“I do not trust people who don’t love themselves and yet tell me, ‘I love you.’ There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt.”

It was a Muslim who realized that light ENTERS our eyes, unlike the Greeks who thought we EMITTED rays, and so invented a camera from this discovery.
It was a Muslim who first tried to FLY in 852, even though it is the Wright Brothers who have taken the credit.
It was a Muslim by the name of Jabir ibn Hayyan who was known as the founder of modern Chemistry. He transformed alchemy into chemistry. He invented: distillation, purification, oxidation, evaporation, and filtration. He also discovered sulfuric and nitric acid.
It is a Muslim, by the name of Al-Jazari who is known as the father of robotics.
It was a Muslim who was the architect for Henry V’s castle.
It was a Muslim who invented hollow needles to suck cataracts from eyes, a technique still used today.
It was a Muslim who actually discovered inoculation, not Jenner and Pasteur to treat cowpox. The West just brought it over from Turkey
It was Muslims who contributed much to mathematics like Algebra and Trigonometry, which was imported over to Europe 300 years later to Fibonnaci and the rest.
It was Muslims who discovered that the Earth was round 500 years before Galileo did.
The list goes on………..
Just imagine a world without Muslims. Now I think you probably meant, JUST IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT TERRORISTS. And then I would agree, the world would definitely be a better place without those pieces of filth. But to hold a whole group responsible for the actions of a few is ignorant and racist. No one would ever expect Christians or White people to be held responsible for the acts of Timothy McVeigh (Oklahoma bombing) or Anders Breivik (Norway killing), or the gun man that shot Congresswoman Giffords in head, wounded 12 and killed 6 people, and rightly so because they had nothing to do with those incidents! Just like the rest of the 1.5 billion Muslims have nothing to do with this incident!

Pray. Pray when you have nothing. Pray when you lose everything. Pray.
And pray even when you have everything, always pray.
I wish you knew how much I smile when I talk to you, and I hope I make you smile when we talk, too.
whoever was in charge of animating her hair deserves every award known to man
Wow
Giving us hair moments
Shes perfect tbh like shes so pretty. Im happy for all of those that she reps.
My sister is in graphic design school and she met one of the animators whose job was specifically for her hair. Apparently for all the scenes with her they had to animate every strand hair individually to give it the correct texture. He told them that her hair took months to perfect. 🙏🏾✊🏾
When someone actually starts loving you but your freaking mind twists their actions and you start questioning and breaking ur head and you think too much into it???
Where were you?
“I was staring at the moon”
Why?
“Why not? When I stare at its beauty, my mind wonders about the beauty of Jannah. When I think about the beauty of Jannah, my mind wonders about the beauty of the One who created Jannah.”
