( his friend, really? that’s so great! you’re right, he’s a damn idiot, but he’s pretty great, and from what i know about him, he’s got great taste in friends. are ya’ rukia and renji’s friend too? i – wow. ‘m ryuko. yeah. g-girlfriend. yeah. but he’s more like my best friend, y’know! )

               “No, that’s alright..”

Orihime’s voice came out cold and distant at first. She hadn’t meant it to.. But it happened anyway. That’s not what the redhead had wanted at all. She wanted to be cheerful and happy. The girl before her seemed so nice... And Orihime just knew Ichigo had to be happy with her...

Why did she have to act this way? 

                    'I wish I didn’t feel so defeated...’

She quickly put her hands up, waving them at an almost frantic pace, “That is to say--! I don’t want to bother you or anything.. I’m sure Ichigo and I could catch up at anytime!!” Although the truth was she wanted to see him, Orihime didn’t want to bother or inconvenience Ichigo or his girlfriend. “It’s honestly no problem, being there for Ichigo was never a hard task! He was always super easy to spot out and sense, so...”

Orihime felt like maybe she shouldn’t have said that last part, she wished she wasn’t such a motormouth. Quickly, the redhead tried to change the subject, “O-Oh I do know Rukia and Renji! I saw Rukia just the other day and I was so happy to see she was safe.. It’s nice to see you’re getting along well with everyone.. Maybe we could be friends too..?”

Crouched down in one of the many alleyways of Hive City was a lab-coat clad robot, who remained eerily still as he observed a few stray animals, going about their own business. For some time he sat there, in quiet reflection. The animals had caught his eye as he’d been walking- part of him originally wondered if the creatures were Allmates, or flesh and blood. Yet as he had stopped, he’d found himself overwhelmed with new questions.

“Do you think they see the world like we do?” Clear mused aloud, a hand slowly outstretching towards one of the kittens padding along the alleyway. The little creature seemed content in its own way, sniffing around the ground in curiosity “Perhaps they do… Or do they dream of seeing things as others do? Do they speak to each other trying to understand?” A multitude of questions left his lips, posed to no one in particular. Yet, he still intently pondered the answers, sights clearly fixated on the animal despite being obscured by his gas mask.

As he continued to murmur, eventually the kitten wandered over, allowing the robot to run his fingers softly over its scruffy fur. Leaning over, he watched it silently, as if deep in thought.

“Do you think we could understand one another?”

Orihime stopped dead in her tracks. She had been walking home with some pastries in her hand but something in one of the alleys caught her eye. It looked to be a person surrounded by kittens. ‘I wonder what they’re doing all the way out here..?’ She moved in closer, intrigued by the kittens as well...

She listened to him speak, not particularly wanting to interrupt someone mid-thought. Orihime took one of the pastries out of the container they were in and took a bite, continuing to listen. She felt bad for eavesdropping.. But there wasn’t anything she could do about it at this point. ‘He seems kind of nice... I wonder if he likes animals. I wonder that stuff about animals sometimes too... It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who thinks that way!’ Orihime became lost in thought for a second, almost missing the point where the other stopped. Once he was finished talking she finally chimed in.

               “Those kittens seem to like you!” 

She said, chirping in. Hopefully she didn’t startle him too badly.. She wouldn’t want to scare him or anything. “Do you like animals..?” Orihime said, smiling cheerfully. “I really hope I’m not bothering you or anything!” She gave an awkward laugh, hoping he wouldn’t shoo her away.

( y’do, do ya’? i mean it ain’t really a popular surname … the one i’m lookin’ for is actually named ichigo. short for idiot. god damn it, why’d he have’ta go get himself lost again. this ain’t even our normal sector for missions … )

( i mean i ain’t worried about him so much as i am … well, he went and got himself lost, but the worst that could happen to him is he meets those hollows or somethin’ again. that’s why i wanna be around, so i can kick their asses for him, y’know? they take our powers away here, but i have all’a mine back. but yeah. hope so. hope he didn’t shunpo his ass off to the other side of the city on accident. )

               “Ichigo...? Ah..”

               “I.. I think I do know him, actually... I'm pretty sure you're talking about my friend.

He’s your b-boyfriend you said? Ah.. Well that’s good! I’m happy for him.. And you-- of course!! You seem very strong and determined.. You two must get along really well! I’m sure, if it’s Ichigo, he’ll be fine!! But just in case I’ll help the two of you reunite as quickly as I can. I know he’s a bit troublesome.. But I’m happy someone like you is there to take care of him!”

( i feel really stupid for askin’, but have y’seen a really tall redheaded idiot around here? about a head or two taller than me, short orange hair, a guy. my boyfriend and i were doin’ a mission together and then he just up and disappeared and i’m gonna kick his ass for makin’ me do all the work. but have y’seen him? i wouldn’t be askin’ if he was answerin’ his phone. stupid kurosaki. )

               “... K-Kurosaki...?”

               “I do know someone who has the last name Kurosaki, actually.. 

But no.. I-um.. I haven’t seen him around but-- I’m sorry, did you say your boyfriend..? Oh my!! If he’s your boyfriend you must be a little worried, right? I’ll help you look for him! I’m sure if you two were doing a mission together he can’t be too far away..”

               “If I’m not mistaken... there should be a park nearby! I could show you there, if you’d like!”

❄ –   She smiled. The taller woman did seem unscathed–though she had yet to meet anyone that had been hurt upon entering the city. Actually, the very opposite seemed to happen as some of the people she had met had been brought from the dead. Rukia still didn’t exactly understand how but she had been in the city long enough to stop questioning it. No one would answer her, anyway.

                               “No, there are definitely others–                                         I’ve also made friends, though.”

The shinigami had only been alone for a couple of hours when she had first arrived, and for that she was grateful. 

                                       “We should get you settled…                                               where is it that you’ve been housed?”

Orihime moved her hands about her person, saying little “oh’s” and “um’s” trying to remember exactly where she was supposed to be housed. Finally she remembered, you could almost see the light bulb clicking on in her head. “I believe it’s in a place called District Alpha! Is that far from here..?”

The redhead didn’t want to be any trouble to the ravenette, but she didn’t exactly want her to leave any time soon either. ‘Hopefully Rukia will stay with me for a little bit... I really hope she doesn’t have anything to do. Maybe.. Maybe I could tag along with her if she did--’ She shook her head back and forth, trying to clear her mind.

               “I’m so glad you haven’t been here all alone!”

She said, her thoughts finally catching up to her. “Are your new friends nice people?” Orihime smiled brightly. “I’m sure if they’re your friends, Rukia, they must be nice!” She giggled a bit, bubbling with happiness. Rukia was one of the best people she knew, after all.

The glowing tube opened with a hiss, eyes flickering about briefly to look upon the mutants as they scurried away from their thing of worship. He’d come down here a few times before. Mostly to explore… see what was down here beyond the mutants that could be either very skittish or very aggressive. After his initial show of force upon arriving the first time… it wasn’t often that they were aggressive toward him since. But he wasn’t at east enough to let his hand slip from the hilt of his weapon.

Though his caution faded somewhat as he moved further into the underground tunnels, moving past the huts, as there was nobody there he had any interest in visiting. And eventually, he came across a girl who didn’t seem all too concerned with her situation. Lost in the dark depths of the underground maze that was District Alpha. Or maybe she wasn’t lost and knew exactly where she was. As doubtful as it seemed from her expression.

“…You know… the things that live down here can be pretty territorial. You should try not to get lost.”

Orihime was trying her very best to get used to her new home- if she believed that it felt warm and cozy maybe eventually it really would! Maybe one day she’d be out in the city and think to herself, ‘Wow... I sure do wish I was back in the dark depths below!’ That was probably just wishful thinking, but it was better than moping around about her current living condition. That would get her no where! She’d just have to do her best and work as hard as she could-- 

Upon hearing another voice the red head was soon shaken out of her revere. “Oh...?” She hadn’t thought the creatures looked all too mean- they were probably just terribly misunderstood! Then again, she didn’t want to mess with something she was unfamiliar with. They had stared at her the few times she had actually left the designated hut she was given, but nothing more than that. Yet. And hopefully that’s all they would do. Well actually the staring did make her uncomfortable but--

Once again, Orihime realized she had been lost in thought. Not wanting to seem rude she quickly chirped up, “Actually, I live down here..” She smiled a bit. Wow! This guy was looking out for her, huh? That was sure considerate!  He was probably really nice, and Orihime had to admit he looked pretty cool too!

               “So what are you doing down here, then?”

“I would’ve been able to help.. But ever since I’ve come to this city it seems I can only activate defensive shields.. Normally I would’ve been able to heal you at least a little bit!” The redhead felt bad, honestly wanting to help the other. She wondered what happened to him... 

Maybe he got into a fight. Maybe he’s some hooligan... He sure looked strange enough to be one. 

               “We could try to find a first-aid kit or get you to a hospital!”

Not quite running, Rukia sped up to met her friend half way.

                        “No, don’t worry. You’re not here alone–there are                           others here, too. Are you alright, though?”

Orihime nodded her head a bit too enthusiastically, “Yes! Yes, I’m alright... I guess I’m just a bit turned around is all!” Saying she was turned around was a complete understatement. Orihime wanted to know why she was here- and where exactly.. “here” was. She had many questions, but felt relieved, seeing Rukia. And she said there were others here as well! 

               “I’m so glad there are others here too!                  I would’ve felt awful if I had known you’d been here all alone!”

The taller female starts waving her hands around frantically, running towards the ravenette, “I thought I was going to be stuck here alone! I’m so glad I’ve found you...!”

               “Gosh, this place sure is crazy..!”
