Arranged into a smiling face.

A head pat follows...then a grimace. His hair stabbed her palm.

The sound of little feet rapidly padding across the wood floors breaks whatever semblance of peace had existed moments ago. It's quickly followed by a small blond child all but taking his mother out by the knees. Crashing into her so excited! He's got a janky paper throwing star that he made all by himself (with a lot of help from his dad)

"Mama!!!" He beams so brightly! "For you!" Holding it up with all the excitement. "Open it!"

Inside she will find a terrible drawing of her, him, and Minato. The two blonds holding flowers to give to her with a speech bubble that says "to best mom and scary mom ever! I love you - Naruto" She is of course depicted with angry eyebrows but hearts around her head, very conflicting yet telling images. She may be cranky a lot, but her boys love her more than anything.

"Happy mothers day mama!!"

There’s an oof.

The pile of laundry the redhead had been carrying scatters to the floor in dramatic betrayal. Sleeves, socks, one very questionable shirt—everywhere.

A frog stares up at her from one of Naruto's shirts.

Smug.

Smug.

Which is bold, considering it’s on the floor. Dirty. Judging her anyway.

How rude, 'ttebane.

Her eyes narrow at it. A momentary glaring contest behins—

—but then her eyes soften as they drop to the tiny blond currently attached to her knees like he pays rent there.

Well.

Priorities.

The irritation melts. Just—gone. Replaced with something softer. Warmer. Her fingers slip into his hair, gentle, lingering, still a little in awe of him.

Her son.

Her miracle.

Because female jinchūriki did not have children.

Female jinchūriki did not get to be mothers.

And yet—

There he is.

Real. Solid. Here.

Perfect.

Proof of Minato's promise kept—made back when they’d been too young to understand the weight of it.

“I’ll fulfill your dream of being a mother, Kushina.”

The memory rises, quiet and steady.

She crouches, bringing herself to his level. “For me, Naruto-chan?” she asks, softer now, taking the wonky paper shuriken from his hands. There are stains on it—blueberry, probably—tiny chibi fingerprints stamped across the folds.

Carefully, she opens it.

Three figures.

Angry eyebrows.

A speech bubble that declares her scary.

A beat—

—and then a giggle escapes her, bright and helpless.

She pulls him close, scooping him up and burying her face into his hair, breathing him in. Sweet. Warm. Naruto.

“I love it, Naruto-chan,” she whispers.

She lifts her head just enough to catch Minato peeking in through the doorway, that soft, knowing smile already in place.

She returns it. Smaller. Fuller.

Mouths a quiet arigato.

“As I love you.”
