kenpachi's a hardier guy than mayuri but mayuri is nothing if not persistent 😌 also unlike mayuri, kenpachi doesn't cover his up with make-up (though i'm sure mayuri offered but kenpachi went "hell no, like i give a shit what anyone thinks")

i don't have anything new for day 4 of kurotsuchi week, but have this only tangentially related doodle that i quickly threw some shading on from an idea i had for a comic that i won't ever actually be making because i can't make comics 😔

the idea is that after urahara's exile and disappearance, mayuri is dragged (in the middle of the night too, which is why he doesn't have facepaint on, his hair is a mess, and he's wearing just a nemaki) in front of the central 46 to explain his part in "urahara's" "treasonous actions". they have a hard time believing that mayuri, as the vice-president of the S.R.D.I. - hand-picked for the position by urahara no less - , would not have been aware of urahara's activities, and seem to have already decided that mayuri was somehow involved regardless of what he has to say. they throw his past as a prisoner in the maggot's nest in his face, not even insinuating but outright stating that someone with his background would obviously be involved in something like hollowification experiments, and that since it was only by urahara's grace that he was allowed out and urahara is now gone, well... and perhaps they also throw the not-just-professional relationship between urahara and him in his face, just for extra humiliation

of course, mayuri truly does not know anything and was in no way involved, but the central 46 seems adamant on pinning some of the blame on him and using it as an excuse to send him back to the maggot's nest. and ten years ago he couldn't have given less of a shit, but now mayuri's gotten used to his freedom and new life, and the prospect of being imprisoned again truly frightens him.

in the end, he is acquitted of all charges, leaving him confused as to whether the central 46 were even actually trying to gauge if he was involved, or whether they just wanted to scare and humiliate him into not even thinking about doing something like what urahara did. regardless, he never does quite forgive urahara for just up and disappearing and leaving him to take the blame (and for not involving him in his hollowification experiments in the first place, the fuck??). he can't help but wonder if urahara was just using him all along, using him as a front - and, should the worst case scenario come to pass, a fall guy - while he was working on his own agenda.

anyway. idk. i wish i could draw comics but despite how much i read them, my brain just can't into actually making them 😔 if i could at least write i could turn the idea into a fic, but i'm not good at that either so i'm left to just daydream about Scenarios like this
