A Surprising Coffee
I have recently realized that I view the word in a very strange way. I am currently sitting in the Starbuck near my work and I'm listening. Now typically I would prefer to open my mind and ears outside, but todays weather hasn't made listening to nature its normal enjoyable experience. So instead of listening to birds or wind I'm listening to people. Now I wasn't trying to eavesdrop but two guys a couple tables over from me are talking at a volume a little too loud for the location. At first the only thing that I thought was, "wow, this guy really likes to curse." In fact he was cursing so frequently that I found myself listening closer to the conversation. I had to laugh when I realized what they were talking about. They were in a business meeting, talking about prices and websites and closing deals and all sorts things. Now I was simply intrigued, " Was this man talking with such language to a client?" Now don't get me wrong I'm not saint now will I pretend to be, most days I have the mouth of a sailor but never in a work related situation. The more I listened the more amazed I became. This man was talking about humans and the American population as if we were animals, talking about the best ways to trick us into buying this or that. Thats when it hit me, corporate America has found the one tool to do whatever they feel like doing. They have learned to dehumanize their consumers in order to feel better about how they wrongly take from us. My new daily challenge is to listen in more. You may be surprised by what you hear. As always this is a challenge for both you and me. I am just curious to hear what is really going on in the world. Maybe it will make life a little more amusing. This time I would love to hear what you have heard throughout your day/week. Message me with your amusing/shocking finds and I'm going to piece them together for my friday post.
