My mom said that today in church her pastor said in the sermon that Jesus told us to help the poor, and taking money away from public schools to give to charter schools only widens the gap between the rich and the poor.  She then added that Jesus spoke against adultery and lust and would not have approved of bragging about sexually assaulting women.  According to my mom, people got up and walked out.

The pastor also started the sermon by noting that she’d heard of another minister who read the entirety of the Sermon on the Mount at the pulpit, to be told by the so-called Christian parishioners after the service that it was offensive and they didn’t agree.

The Sermon on the Mount is straight up the words of Jesus.

Please help us go see Coppelius!!!!!

Dear friends, By this point all of you who know us know that a love of the German band Coppelius is one of the main things that brought Layla and I together.  In just a year and a half, we’ve been through a lot, but Coppelius is something that brings us joy even in the darkest moments.  We’ve always dreamed of traveling to Germany to see them perform, but we planned on doing that a couple years in the future, when we’d have more financial stability. Unfortunately, in February Coppelius announced that they were going on hiatus for an indefinite length of time as of January 1.  Layla and I panicked and instantly began planning out how we could make it to their performances in late December in an affordable way.  Just as we’d managed to get it figured out, something happened that we could not have anticipated. We had expected that Layla’s son Dom would stay with his father and stepmom during our trip to Germany.  Dom struggles with behavioral problems and mental illness.  Very recently, we found out that since his dad and stepmom are convinced that people can control their own behavioral and mental issues without medication, they have decided not to have contact with Dom until he “chooses” to control his problems. We had been planning the trip for ourselves as a couples getaway, with Dom staying with his dad to celebrate the holidays with them. But now obviously this isn’t possible.  We now plan to bring Dom with us as a family vacation.  We will need money to cover a low-cost, no specialties added plane ticket for him, a passport, higher hotel room costs, etc.  Without this, we won’t be able to go see Coppelius, and honestly may never get the chance. We all see fundraisers go by for much more dire situations, and we also know that we have asked for money in the past.  With that in mind, because this is so important to our relationship, and because we really have gone through a lot in 2016, we ask for your help if you can spare any money at all.  Getting to go to Germany would mean so incredibly much to us.  And of course, no matter what, please share this with everyone you know.
