crowley is such a crier, i love this about him. he cries when the bookshop is burned down, he cries at the pub afterwards, he’s at least near tears when the bentley is destroyed, he cries when aziraphale goes to heaven, and then later, in the south downs, he cries during se— *gunshot*
"But they chose humanity, they saved the Earth!" No. No, they did not choose humanity, and they did NOT save the Earth. They surrendered. They allowed the Great Plan to unfold, taking BILLIONS of lives with it. Children, adults, animals, plants, insects, absolutely everything perished. Everything they fought for perished. They assumed they knew what humanity needed without asking humanity. They did basically what Adam refused to do, demonstrating his free will and his resistance to being what the Great Plan told him to be. He didn't give up on this world. And they did.
"This show is about humanity, not about aziracrow only!" SO WHY DID THEY MAKE IT ABOUT AZIRACROW ONLY. Even in s2, which was focused on aziracrow a lot, humans played a role! They helped to protect the bookshop! And in s3... I cant remember even one single human character, who played a role. Not a single one. So no, it's not about humanity or humanism. They didnt try to understand what good omens is about.
S3 is about money and a very stupid fan service. That's all.
i mean seriously what is up with this, what the actual fuck is going on with this characterization of Aziraphale just being a fucking dunce. Like there is haha Aziraphale doesn't always understand relatively new pop culture references and music and sayings because he got really comfy and everything after the 1950's is really hit or miss for him. but pride??? PRIDE????? You're telling me this bitch who has lived in the gayest part of London since it was a street you could build a building on, the Oscar Wilde fanangel, who probably still knows each traditional dress and dish served from ancient human festivals, never read a fucking book about Pride? Never read some queer poetry? Never read queer novels? Never asked anyone in the neighborhood what was all the fuss?? Never took it as an opportunity to celebrate and get wasted at the very least???

So I guess there's some long-ass post circulating, where somebody says they like the Good Omens ending where the protagonists (and everybody else in the universe) are disintegrated into dust, but they need everybody who's sad about that to shut up and not say anything, because sad people are ruining their enjoyment of everyone getting disintegrated. Ohhhhh..........kay?
The Jesus plot could've really worked if they had involved Jehsua in negotiating with God and convinced her to put everything back with no heaven or hell and then maybe, cause angels and demons don't exist anymore, a human azicrow ending would've been fine cause it would at least be OUR aziraphale and crowley continuing their lives. with their memories. This would also parallel s1 with Adam refusing to be the antichrist in front of Satan and now jesus refusing to give up this world in front of God.
And in both times it would be aziraphale and crowley being the guiding light to the protagonist. It was that simple.
Season 1: “You don’t have to obey the roles assigned to you.”
Season 2: “Love and free will can exist despite oppressive institutions.”
Season 3: “Actually, those institutions are so inescapable that reality itself has to be replaced. Also suicide is good.”
In hindsight, I guess it's obvious that the only way Season 2 was meant to be a bridge was as a bridge from Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, the collaborative effort between Terry Pratchett and NG to Good Omens: The Story of Crowley the Extremely Cool Demon Who Was Also the Best Angel, the story as NG originally envisioned it. And it is equally obvious to me that he did not understand how Crowley had evolved from his original idea and that he resented Aziraphale's inclusion in the story at all. They were never meant to be a couple in his eyes but he was happy to play with the idea as a way to make his self-insert suffering martyr version of Crowley even sadder by turning Aziraphale from a co-main character and equal partner into an unworthy love interest who never really understood him.
And it all just pisses me off because while I can dismiss S3 as a piece of shit written by a piece of shit, part of the legacy it leaves behind is the poisoning of the fandom, now and in the future, against a character I have loved for 30 years.
(I know Crowley was treated very badly by Season 3 too. Please don't @ me to tell me how much worse he had it - that was the intent. They were both done extremely dirty, but you're meant to sympathize with Crowley and to see Aziraphale as cruel.)
What a "tribute" to an alleged friend, completely assassinating the character he created for your shared story just to elevate your own. "For Terry" indeed. 😠
So imagine the prospect of reuniting with a beloved family pet after you've had a lengthy absence from home. You're understandably really excited about it!
Except when you actually get there the cat you're presented with is very clearly taxidermied. In fact, it looks very much like it's been prepared by someone who's not only never taxidermied before but has quite possibly never even seen a cat before.
This is (obviously) very distressing, but when you try and point this out, your family and friends look at you like you're deranged. There's no acknowledgement that there's anything different about your cat and they're angry at you for even questioning it.
And sure, technically it might be your pet (it does bear some similarities) but why can't they see that the ears aren't in the right place and the legs are at a funny angle? That it's been gutted of everything that you loved about it in the first place. It has no heart. It wasn't dead.

Maybe im in the wrong but i get so fustrated every time someone says "they got thier cottage" or "they got married". NO THEY DIDDNT, THEY GOT DEAD, VERY VERY DEAD.
the thing that makes a good tragedy is that despite the events of the story being preventable, there is a sense that this is the only way it could have gone with the characters the story creates.
this is something that Good Omens 3 completely fails at. Its so annoying to me when people say things along the lines of "this is the only way it could have ended" about the finale because even as a tragedy (which it was not intended to be and is not listed as one if its generas), it is written so poorly that this is not the case. The characters from the book would never have acted the way the characters in the finale did. Crowley is supposed to be an optimist, Aziraphale is supposed to be smart. The choice these characters made in the end is nihilistic and depressing, and doesnt even make sense in the context of the story. There were so many other ways to end things presented in the finale, some of them introduced in the same movie just to be ignored in the end. Jesus could have played a part in the decision, being half god (the one offering the decision) and part human (the ones affected by the decision). Turning a bookshop full of books into hundreds of books of life provides infinite ways for the story to end; the characters can literally choose to write whatever they want into reality. God was apparently willing to do whatever Aziraphale and Crowley wanted, including bringing all the dead humans back to life, so why didnt they ask for anything other than the worst possible option? Especially when the characters are based on thousands of years of tricking people and coming up with creative solutions to get what they want, it makes no sense for them to ignore all their other options and give up. Theres just so many ways the story could have ended, so it makes it cheap and confusing when the characters choose the most tragic ending for no in universe reason, just because the author wanted a sad/bittersweet (theres no sweet in this bitter though) ending.
hey so does the #ForTerry shit by finale defenders piss anyone else off? like the endless refrains of “this was for terry! this is the ending he wanted! this was what he planned all along!” in addition to being a pointless argument it’s also exploiting a dead man’s name and reputation to distract from the reality that GO3 was a product of Neil Gaiman and two of his friends. it was right there in the end credits. three writers were listed for the teleplay and only Gaiman was listed for the television story. that’s it!
like whose word are they taking for GO2/3 being from plot discussions for a never-materialized sequel to the book? Neil Gaiman?? Pathological liar and serial abuser Neil Gaiman?? give me a fucking break. as if his general character isn’t enough to make it clear he is not a trustworthy source, the man already lied through his teeth about S1 being the totality of show!omens and switched up the story to justify an obvious cash+attention grab. and some people are still taking his word that this is what he and Pratchett supposedly planned? without a shred of actual concrete evidence? i need them to expeditiously get a fucking grip
and quite frankly I don’t give a shit what anyone on the production team or from the Pratchett Estate has said on the matter. because to be blunt i’m sure it eases the discomfort of having helped produce a Gaiman creation post-2024 to focus on the other co-writer of the book and pretend it was for/inspired by him. as for whatever the Pratchett estate has said, shockingly enough being the executor of an estate does not grant you moral authority nor divine omniscience into a dead person’s thoughts. but i do think Pratchett’s whole “bulldoze my works-in-progress after I die” request sent a pretty fucking clear message that his estate ignored in favor of making money. and they got monkey paw’d by allowing Gaiman to continue writing for, and thereby forever tarnishing the legacy of, something that was at least 75% a Pratchett creation.
it’s whatever if people liked the finale but liking it AND spinning a narrative that obfuscates the ginormous rancid elephant in the room is just plain fucked up. like i get this is a “why were YOU at the devil’s sacrament situation” but at a bare minimum i think being in fandom where the source material’s creator did/does terrible things requires honesty and accountability about that fact, but apparently that’s too much for some good omens fans. this is like the final boss of the internet’s misuse of Death of the Author as a way to ignore difficult issues and pretend a creator’s opinions/biases/ideologies don’t influence their creations. turns out you don’t have to navigate complex moral dilemmas if you just distort reality and refuse to acknowledge said moral dilemmas! who knew!
