My oldest son started school the year of furlough Fridays and I was concerned about the education system and how money was being spent.  My driving factor for pursuing the position of Chief Financial Officer for the DOE was to drive success through alignment and transparency of funding.  I have a vested interest in ensuring a quality public education for my two plus 170K+ more!

Student success is someone who is optimistic about learning, who exceeds in grades and standards while learning essential life skills in the process!

We are guest speakers to educators, and going out to all the public schools to talk about ethnicity in Hawaii.  When we talk about student success, we need teachers to have empathy about where the students come from.  There are resources to navigate success for our Pacific Islander kids.  It is about feeling welcome, and being able to establish your own identity.
