Hello??
Once Upon Another Time (Modern AU)
Unless he was under the effects of some rare hallucinogenic fruit he didn’t remember consuming, he could have almost sworn his Christine was flirting with him. The thought set his blood aflame and had his heart racing a mile a minute. Such a thing was preposterous…wasn’t it? Years as a professor had taught him that it was not beneath female (and sometimes male) students of his to come onto him, thinking they could charm their way into better grades. The gesture always disgusted Erik – as if he could ever have an eye for anyone in the realm of existence except for Christine! Of course, he hadn’t known back then that she lived again…he merely hoped, and through that hope he would keep faith that he would see her again and that all of his love would be imparted onto her. That is, of course, withstanding that she actually wanted it, of course.
But he had to be delusional. Christine had never been the type to flirt! Well, aside from the innocent gesture here and there when she would tease him, but Erik hadn’t been properly schooled in the antics of women back then to know such a thing could be constituted as flirting. But even if this gesture was not flirtatious, it still made his skin flush, the heat surely creeping up his neck in obvious pleasure. Oh, how little the girl knew of what power she held over him…
“I don’t know about honor,” he said pleasantly, coughing slightly to overcome just how pleasant her flirting made him feel, “But I would be all too willing to help, Christine. As I said before,” he added, unable to keep back a stern glint from his eye, though it was softened by his gentle words.
“When would you like to begin? I am…shamefully free most of my time…so I have no conflict issues.”
Feeling daring, and somewhat wicked, Erik quickly followed her words with his own. “Are you free now, Miss Daae?” He did not know exactly where the impulse came from to ask such a thing – and on a Friday night, no less! – but he was curious. Did she have any social engagements? A night out with friends or….or perhaps a boy? Erik grit his teeth against the idea. No, he scolded himself, you must not travel down this path of possessive jealousy again. You remember what happened last time, surely?
Another, less honorable part of himself told his conscience to can it, and that he had it under control.
This was merely a test. If she was free, she had no reason to reject him. If she was not, Erik would be that much closer to understanding Christine in this life and how he might make her his.
Oh dear, she looked like a fool declaring her vacant schedule to her professor. Not to mention her accidental flirting had obviously made him feel uncomfortable; it was clear by the way he coughed and his skin flushed, almost identical to her's. She couldn't protest as the comment flew from her mouth, it seemed natural! Which was extremely unlikely for the soprano -- she was not use to the provocative ways other women lured in men. She hardly flirted with anyone...and now, she looked idiotic.
However, she blinked once again.
Would now be a good time to begin their lessons? She had spent a week away from his class, would she not have to serve a punishment? And would Erik not feel...awkward after what had happened? But then of course, Christine had to remind herself that they were both adults, and they were able to handle situations like this maturely and properly, right? Still, it didn't stop her from being concerned toward her professor's true feelings. It wasn't easy for Christine to tell if someone was telling the truth, after all, she didn't spend a whole lot of time around people.
But...would it hurt to do something differently for once?
"I -- I am...I am free." She stuttered slightly, only a tad bit flustered. It was truly embarrassing having to tell your teacher you are, and always have been, a loner. "Free this entire weekend...actually." It was an admitting joke, but deep down, somewhere within that soprano, it hurt. But Christine never allowed it to bother her as much as it could have.
Feeling the pull again coming from Christine, toward her teacher, she took a step to Erik, hoping it would go away. Yet, it only grew stronger.
"This time -- I promise I won't run out on you."
Now...why did those words act as if they presented themselves with a double meaning?

Once Upon Another Time (Modern AU)
In truth, a part of him, the entity that had once hidden away from humanity’s unforgiving eyes, was truly angry with her. It was a bit irrational, if one was to look at it from an unbiased standpoint, but Erik was, and had never been, unbiased when it came to Christine. Old Erik would have ignored her entirely, instead ruminating on how best to punish her for neglecting him. The reaction, truth be told, that New Erik would have had as a six year old. To remember such inclinations was, frankly, embarrassing, even if it was simultaneously tempting.
Other than being her professor and going out on a limb for her, Christine didn’t owe him anything in this life. He wanted her to, of course, but he was not prepared to take advantage of her again. Even if their relationship would never blossom into the beautiful rose of romance he so greatly desired, he would be content (he had to be!) with simply knowing her and having her in his life. If only to look upon her dear, angelic face and worship her from afar…
She seemed somewhat embarrassed to be caught by him, and he felt for the poor girl. He was elated to have found her before she left for the weekend, even if it was on her way out and to her chagrin. It would seem he had little choice other than to chase her. Taking a surreptitious look around the hall, he hoped it would not become apparent to anyone that he was singling the beautiful brunette out.
He allowed her to speak as the excuses issues forth from her mouth, feeling more neutral towards what she had to say than anything else. What could he do? She obviously needed space to sort out how she felt, and Erik would not push her…not again, but neither would he let her evade him. He was not the man he used to be, but he was a summation of his parts. And the Phantom always got what he wanted in the end.
Surprise registered across his face at her confession. Decency? Well, at least she was forthright. Erik felt admiration fill his chest. She was not a little girl, at least, playing grown up, as she was before. She was taking responsibility for her choices, and Erik was proud of her. He only hoped she would continue to prove him right in that he could rely upon her.
“I would say you do not need to apologize, Miss Daae,” he said, allowing the formality to make its’ point, “But that would not be exactly fair to me.” He sighed, thin lips quirking into a small, self-effacing smile. “I do not want your apologies. I recognize that this environment can be quite stressful on a young person, especially one who is desirous of having a music career.” He tilted his head to the side. “I do want to help you, Christine,” he said softly, his voice a sibilant whisper. “I wish you would let me try.”
Miss Daae...why did the formal usage of her name sound so bitter when spoken by her professor? It wasn't that he was purposefully making it distasteful, rather she would hear her first name fall from his lips. How peculiar it was that Christine felt patronized as Dr. R deemed her as 'Miss Daae'? Perhaps it was that nagging feeling that she had done something horribly wrong, and she would soon pay in punishment? And that feeling was all too familiar in those unavoidable dreams of hers...and her present conversation. Why couldn't he have made things informal? Didn't he ask for her name on the first day? What was the point of that if he was never going to become accustomed to her first name?....And there it was, the Christine Daae personality everyone knew so well; always fretting, becoming anxious at the little things, and over thinking everything.
A smile that mimicked her teacher's was formed on her lips when he continued. It was comforting to know that he wasn't too upset with her. Any other authoritative figure would have reprimanded her, and forced her to probably do volunteer community work, not that she would have minded though.
It was slightly amusing to believe that he actually thought her storm from the other day was because of the school's environment. That was hardly it at all. In fact, it was Erik himself who had set her off. When she sang for him (which was a very, very intimate gesture), she had felt inferior. But now has he coaxed her, the worries she had before were slowly disappearing.
She blinked however at his last comments. And she stayed silent once again.
Did Christine hear her professor correctly? Was he the one asking to allow her the lessons? Now that was something the young soprano was not use to. Had he truly taken a great deal of interest in her voice and career...that he wanted to help her succeed? She was stunned to say the very least...and absolutely honored. Warmth washed over her, and her aching, tensed body relaxed, and her timid smile became only a tad bit grander.
"I can't object to an offer from the teacher himself." Her tone was quietly flirtatious, and she quickly scolded herself for it. That was just stupid of her. "I -- I mean...it would be an honor to have instruction from you." Christine's cheeks' were noticeably red as she continued. "And I would greatly appreciate your help."
Christine's eyelashes fluttered against her cheeks, attempting to shield her obvious embarrassment. But, her growing smile revealed how she truly felt. "When would you like to begin? I am...shamefully free most of my time...so I have no conflict issues."

I have replies to do, and they shall be out tomorrow.
Once Upon Another Time (Modern AU)
For being separated from Christine for nigh on a century and remembering her for the majority of it (because in whatever realm he inhabited before, he surely thought of her), he was remarkably impatient. Their reunion hadn’t been the stuff of fairytales, but it was still all that Erik could have hoped for. He was desperate for her more than ever, and having her within his grasp was frustrating. Moreso because she didn’t know who he was.
After their first ‘lesson’ of sorts, Erik had despaired. He went through a period after their meeting where he had a mildly panicked about never having a moment in private with her ever again. He hadn’t understood what went wrong, and had scoured his mind for endless hours trying to determine what had happened. To some degree, Erik had always had trouble understanding Christine – but that was not to be helped, for Erik had not understood women in general back then. Having so much in common with her and feeling that their souls were so entwined made him think he understood her completely, when really he did not. There was so much of her that he longed to understand, but he knew the only way to do so was to have a healthier relationship with her this time around. And he would, once he understood how he could get close to her in a safe way.
One thing he did know was that it had something to do with her voice. Did music have a negative association for her in this life? He couldn’t fathom how that could be. Music had always been a source of joy for them both, an unadulterated avenue for the purest bliss. Perhaps, like last time, she had lost her parents, and suffered from their loss and the consequent loss of the love they had given her. Or perhaps, a darker part of his mind whispered, she detected something was off about her professor and needed to get herself, and her voice, as far away from him as possible.
He would not play guessing games; the loss of her the first time around had been a consequence of that. He would be more forthcoming, even if it was at the expense of his pride.
As the week drew on and Christine remained ostensibly absent from his class, Erik grew aggrieved and short-tempered. He knew he was a beast to be around that week, and he could only blame himself for it. He had startled her away, he had moved too quickly…he had not been patient enough. When the week closed and she still did not attend his class, Erik decided that the weekend would be his to form a plan. However, fate seemed to intervene when he caught sight of her leaving her last class of the day. ‘So, she attends her other classes?’ he thought with no small trace of bitterness. He took a deep breath. It would not due to be incensed at the poor girl – after all, it was not her fault her baser instincts were warding her away from a previous masked murderer. Her instincts were only trying to protect her. Erik didn’t care very much for them at all.
“Miss Daae,” he called out, his voice a soft beckoning amongst a sea of thrumming voices. He knew it would reach her – it always had. He did not attempt to hurry, feeling confident that his voice alone would keep her in place. Once he was within closer earshot, he spoke again, his voice and expression equally neutral. “Might I have a word?”
Much like stomping full force on the break of a fast moving vehicle, Christine's hurried and anxious pace stopped completely when a familiar, commanding yet soothing voice entered her thoughts. It was the voice of the masked figure who infiltrated her dreams from time to time, the voice that had been in her thoughts constantly since last week. Her body seemed to react to it more than her conscience mind had, but hadn't that always been the problem? The problem of her inner self pulling and tugging toward an unknown entity....Even if her mind protested, her body told her otherwise. And when the request for conversation came from that voice, she then realized who was beckoning her to them.
Dr. R; the very man she did not want to see.
No, that wasn't true. Christine Daae very much longed to be in her professor's presence once more, longed to chat with him aimlessly about music, her past, present and future. It was that pull once again that desired for her to share every secret about herself to him, open herself up completely so that he could hold her, cherish her...Christine would dare say, love her. But that was impossible. Every bit of emotion she had for Erik, her superior, was impossible, and should not be acted upon. She could not allow herself to strive for a man who might be decades older than she, and far more mature. The young soprano could not -- would not -- destroy his already balanced life and career. That was the reason why she could not be around him. For she was afraid of how far things would go.
But she couldn't just skip out on his classes like that -- she was of course wrong in doing that. So, she turned to the voice she so desperately desired to hear speak her name, her eyes clearly showing signs of conflict. Christine hoped he could not see the longing in her eyes...that would surely be embarrassing.
"Of -- Of course." She stuttered quietly, hand flying to her face, only to tuck back a few pieces of her hair. However, before he could even comment on her absence from class, she began to apologize. "Oh - Please forgive me for this past week. I've not been to your classes...I've just been -"
The pause seemed deafening to Christine. 'You've been what, Christine? Sick? Oh no, you're obviously well. You're on campus for goodness sakes!'
"I haven't had...the decency to face you again." Perhaps telling him the -- slight truth would be best? "After that...very, very short lesson, which I also apologize immensely about, I felt incredibly foolish and childish...." Her eyes watched him, only slightly pleading with him to forgive her. She didn't expect him to, of course.

Zeva had only just turned around when she found a small hand pistol pointed smack dab in the middle of her forehead. She would have been shocked if it was the first time that it had happened. But it wasn’t. It took a moment for her eyes to focus before she had saw the beauty that stood behind the trigger. It definitely wasn’t someone she knew.
Instead of a freak out, the young spirit spoke calmly.
"Ah, someone looking to kill death, right?"
Sighing and only using a small finger to lower the weapon, the woman gave her a smirk. “My apologies, but such a small weapon won’t do much damage.”
Watching the woman’s face as she lowered the gun was truly intriguing. She hadn’t looked scared, or even confused. If anything, the strangers face was neutral. That certainly was a first. But listening to her speak was another story. Her words were sharp and curved in the sense that she wanted direct answers. Or that’s how it sounded at least.
Keeping her position high and her arms crossed, she raised a curious brow at the woman’s gutsy response. Chuckling a bit, she responded: “It would not have done much, that’s for sure.” In her hand was the very instrument that helped her complete her evil doings. “It would have gone through my skull. I admit that it would be rather unfortunate since my hair looks so nice today. Besides, the blood that rushed down my face would indefinitely ruin my makeup.”
Sighing at the thought, she pushed the gun down further and stepped closer to the woman with a grin playing on her lips.
"Besides, it’s quite rude to point a gun at someone you don’t know. My name is Zeva~ And yours?"
What in the -- Who was this woman?
Christine was hardly frightened in this type of situation, in fact, she had been in far worse scenarios. This was something small, nothing compared to being trapped inside a vampire's nest, all by her lonesome...Oh, that was a terrible, and very idiotic move on the Hunter's part. Thankfully, her escape and kill plan worked accordingly, which was just pure luck; any other situation she would have died. Still, there was always that vengeful, young vampire on her tail, but those were easy kills.
But her comments about destruction to her appearance caught her off guard. Was she saying that -- that the bullet wouldn't cause fatal damage?
What?
Immediately, almost instinctively, Christine pulled the gun behind her, shielding it from the creature..if she was even that.
"Well, now you have given me even more reason to shoot a bullet into your skull." Now, the Hunter never talked like this in her early adulthood. She was kind, and reserved in her early times, but after years of training, and working with other Hunter's, she had taken upon a new skill; vulgar language. "I don't know what you are - maybe you're...not the most favorable of monsters."
She eyed Zeva for several moments, before she gave in.
"My name is Christine."
Christine coughed, hoping to gain the man's attention.
Ahhh… Here was a scent and a voice he hadn’t heard in such a long time, but he remembered it well.
"Miss Daaé… It’s been quite a long time since I’ve seen you."
"No, my dear we didn’t interact much, something that needs to be remedied I believe." Her scent was unforgettable, soft and pure. Some part of him wanted to change that, darken it and make it his own-But all in due time of course.
"If you insist, Christine." He smiled at the young woman and continued. "Since we’re not being formal, I suppose you can call me Drac."
Head tilted slightly to meet his direct gaze, she blinked a few times before responding. "Then why not we remedy it now? I have nothing scheduled, and I assume you don't either...otherwise, why would you be conversing with me?" It was a small jest; the soprano truly didn't know if he was busy, or had simply stopped because she was a familiar face. Nevertheless, it felt good to have someone finally recognize her, and attempt a conversation. For the most part, Christine was forgotten...
With a nod of her dainty head, she found herself hooking an arm with Drac, something two clever, witty friends seemed to do; she was hardly witty, but perhaps she could be the clever one?
"Have you been causing any chaos or havoc in this ruined city?"
{OPEN} ||
"And why should I trust you?"
"What makes you so different from the others?"
Christine coughed, hoping to gain the man's attention.
Ahhh… Here was a scent and a voice he hadn’t heard in such a long time, but he remembered it well.
"Miss Daaé… It’s been quite a long time since I’ve seen you."
"Yes...I suppose it has been quite a long time." An innocent smile formed on her delicate lips. "However, from what I recall, we hadn't spoken much..."
She had been timid in their first meeting, but this time, she felt more comfortable, more relaxed in the presence of Drac. "And please, there is no need for formal name calling...You may call me Christine if you'd like."

Christine should have pulled the trigger; perhaps the damage done to the unknown creature would have caused any further conflict to be avoided, after all, Ms. Daae was fast and lean. It was one of her more...appealing features.
But nevertheless, she stayed where she was, allowing the woman in front of her to lower the gun. If she wanted Christine dead, surely, she would have done it by now. Still, it confused her to no end why the other adult was brave enough to even touch the pistol, any other being would be frightened enough that they would begin to shake.
"Killing death would be a bit redundant, wouldn't it?" Her petite hand remained enclosed around the gun, finger still keen on the trigger.
"And perhaps I had decided to pull the trigger. If it wouldn't do much damage, what would it have done?"
